No one is discrediting the student protests. I myself am a student who is partaking in largely student-coordinated protests, drives, campaigns… but I also understand that we are largely missing the point if coverage of these protests overshadows what they are actually protesting for—the atrocities committed on Palestinians every single day. As the western buzz around this genocide gets more and more coverage, the coverage of the genocide itself sharply declines. It’s true and I see it every single day. Things are not being reported with the precision and diligence with which they should be.

Also i just want to make it clear that the point of this post isn't that all these examples i gave are all perfect or even "good" examples of representation, it's that the excuse White writers use of "nonwhite people can't/shouldn't exist in fantasy or historical fiction based on historical Europe because it's not realistic (because there was only White people there)" doesn't hold any water whatsoever because for centuries, even White writers in those time periods were also writing about & acknowledging the presence ethnic minorities in Europe & included them in their stories. "There were no poc in Medieval Europe" doesn't make any sense when you have Medieval European writers talking about & including poc in their stories set in Medieval Europe.
Honestly if Ursula K Leguin can write the fantasy series Earthsea with like 2 White characters in total in the 1960s, if Tolkien can write about Brown Hobbits & Elves & North African coded Dunedain in the 1930s, if Jane Austen can write about a Black heiress in Regency England, if William Shakespeare can write a play about a Black man as its main character in Tudor England, if a 13th century Medieval Author of Morien can write about a Black Knight of the round table of Arthurian legend.... then you have no excuse tbh. "It's not realistic" isn't a real excuse.

Hundreds of Jewish anti-war demonstrators have been arrested during a Passover seder that doubled as a protest in New York, as they shut down a major thoroughfare to pray for a ceasefire and urge the Senate majority leader, Chuck Schumer, to end US military aid to Israel.
The 300 or so arrests took place on Tuesday night at Grand Army Plaza, on the doorstep of Schumer’s Brooklyn residence, where thousands of mostly Jewish New Yorkers gathered for the seder, a ritual that marked the second night of the holiday celebrated as a festival of freedom by Jews worldwide.
The seder came just before the US Senate resoundingly passed a military package that includes $26bn for Israel.
