Still obsessed with Arthur Conan Doyle’s letter to Bram Stoker gushing about how wonderful a book Dracula is, but particularly how it makes such a good template for leaving fic comments, so I’m gonna to a BREAKDOWN:

Just say you loved reading it - “I am sure that you will not think it an impertinence if I write to tell you how very much I have enjoyed reading Dracula.”

Comment on a detail of the craft or structure that impressed you - “It is really wonderful how with so much exciting interest over so long a book there is never an anticlimax.“

Comment on how it emotionally affected you - “It holds you from the very start and grows more and more engrossing until it is quite painfully vivid.”

I was in discord chat for another UT fic/like other UT fics (by the same creator), and got spoiled about well, what you say in this post:

To you know, SPOILERS: Sans.

What a way to find out (well, was more like being, "Well, I hope that isn't the case, because they didn't know for sure either, but them saying that, started to make me really wonder, and then I checked the above post, and found out and/or got stuff confirmed).

I am hoping it is more so Gaster thing, so he is tech. not gone, gone, and/or could even be brought back. Because the boy (Sans) deserves at least some happiness (just from what we know about him and/or can specualte about him from the game. My guy has not had the easiest life to say the least. So that, added with the fic's events too. Man).

Anyways, this makes me hate Jerren all the more. He is a good character, don't get me wrong, but God, do I not like him.

.... nah, I'm not going to be like that! Even if I tanked my ability for people to discover the fic through the Sans/Reader tag just for fun.

Don't worry about Sans. He knew what he was doing.

True, at the last minute part of his plan went wrong.

i was wondering, do you feel any connection to jerren author to author?

Well, let me put it this way.

In the first draft of APJFM, the events of is now ch. 1 - 67 was around 25 chapters. It ended the same way -- with a reset that brought everything back to 1924, then Jerren deciding to return to the previous timeline. But I wasn't really thinking of it as a story yet. I'd added Jerren to complicate things a bit, but it was mostly still focused on the sex fantasy stuff. And after the reset, I kept writing it as a sex fantasy. Then at some point I realized, no, if I'm thinking of them as characters, not sex fantasy puppets, then when the reset hits everything should change. Somehow I'd come up with a much more interesting story than I'd meant to. But to go back and do it right, I'd have to erase huge amounts of post-reset story that I'd written.

I did it. None of what I'd written ever happened. Some of it made its way back into the main story in some way -- things that I learned about the characters and their interactions, isolated lines, bits of action and sex scenes. But for the most part, it's gone.

And I thought:

"Oh. This is how it feels to be the anomaly."

Reader sold herself to Sans to pay for her sister Sasha’s hospital treatments; Sans bought Reader to help him forget his failure to stop the anomaly. Against their better judgments, the two of them fell for each other. When Reader learned the truth about the anomaly, she and Sans made a plan to stop him: she would distract Jerren for as long as possible while Sans figured out how to destroy his power to turn back time. Sans pulled it off — sacrificing himself in the process. Now, no one remembers he ever existed.

Sasha, Frisk and Asriel managed to break the spell on the Surface and bring it down to earth. Then they attacked the Institute for Extraphysical Studies, Jerren’s personal laboratory for studying magic. Jerren anticipated the move, and trapped them in the basement. But breaking the spell sent the magic back to the humans who were present. Both Reader and Frisk’s magic has manifested itself.

hey!!! ive been really inspired lately and i started working on a fanfic (which i havent done in years)

do you have any tips for me? this is probably the closest ill ever come to starting a project as big as apjfm and i’d like to do it right.

Hey, that's wonderful! Let's see what I can come up with...

If I'd had the slightest idea APJFM would be a project as big as APJFM, I'd never have started.

What I told myself instead was that I had permission to write whatever damn fool, nonsensical, shocking, anachronistic, problematic bullshit I wanted. No one else ever had to see it: I could write just to make myself happy.

I didn't know I was depressed. I just knew nothing made me happy except for writing. Every day, I woke up driven by one question: "what happens next?"

Also, I didn't start with APJFM. I started with a bog-standard "self-insert character falls into the Undertale" world (part of which is on AO3, I keep meaning to add more but haven't), then got a couple chapters into a mob!sans story that didn't work.

Then: "well, what if Papyrus was dead?"

The perfect what-if can create a 700k word story. One word at a time, for nearly a decade.

Now that Sasha, Frisk and Asriel have brought down the Surface, they're ready to storm the Institute, destroying the feared anti-magic weapon and rescuing the prisoners. But will Jerren let you get away with it that easily?

While you’re studying the map and Asriel steers the boat, Frisk and Sasha are attempting to will their magic into existence. “I know something happened," Sasha says irritably. "I don't know if we need a magic word, or a wand or — or magic cake, maybe!” Frisk starts laughing, and Sasha scowls at them. “Sorry,” they say cheerfully enough that it doesn’t sound like an apology at all. “I was just picturing you chowing down on a whole cake, trying to do a spell.” “I would if I had to!" She waves a hand imperiously. "Let there be lightl! As soon as I…” She pantomimes shoving cake into her face, making loud munching noises.  “But beware the day your worst enemy strikes… and destroys your favorite bakery!" Frisk replies in a dramatic voice.  “Noooooo!” Sasha pretends to fall to the floor, clutching her stomach. “My cake! My beautiful cake!”  You can’t help but smile as you watch the exchange. Despite everything, she’s still Sasha.  What about you? Are you still you?

Good morning/afternoon/night. I don't know if you keep track of the reactions your work APJFM causes on your readers, but it's an honor of mine to tell you I physically can't continue reading. Anxiousness overwhelms me about what could possibly come next. What other glorious bullshit (and just how much) would I have to endure, just to see IF any of these mfs gets an happy ending. It both excites and worries me for I know that once, and if I ever, let my curiosity overcome my anxiety to finally read the rest of your work, an unhealthy reaction, and quite possibly obsession, would ensue. Not unlike my reaction to another fanfic that I've read that caused such a deep depression in me, it attracted the numerous concerns from my loved ones. It lasted all but a week, but the reminder is enough not to ever go back and invest myself in such a way ever again. Obviously I didn't learn, and obviously I'm paying for it. Perhaps one day, many years down the line, I'll work up the courage to finally finish this work in my queen size bed, snuggled up next to my future husband, in our tiny house away from the rest of society, both respectfully reading our separate pieces of literature, and he'll watch me work myself up in a tizzy chapter after chapter over an Undertale. Fanfiction. And he'll just have to hear the fangirling of a late aged woman whether he likes it or not. Obviously this is satire, an obsession would not occur, but truthfully I cannot continue until I see the green check mark that says APJFM is finally finished. Thank you, and damn you. Sincerely, one of your readers (or was).

When the book Cujo came out, my mom got so into reading it, and so freaked out by it, that she didn't want to read it when my dad wasn't around. So when he went on a business trip, he was surprised to find it in his luggage. She'd put it there so she wouldn't be tempted to read it and scare herself.

As a person I am sorry to have caused you so much anxiety, but as a writer, I am honored to be in a similar class with Stephen King!

I expect APJFM to be over late spring or early summer 2024. Then you can enjoy the rest 💗

Reader sold herself to Sans to pay for her sister Sasha’s hospital treatments; Sans bought Reader to help him forget his failure to stop the anomaly. Against their better judgments, the two of them fell for each other. But after angering the anomaly, the reset Sans has long awaited has come and gone, and the two of them are stuck in a short time loop.

After Reader learned the true nature of reality and she and Sans made a breakthrough, she created a plan with him to buy more time by devoting herself to Jerren. Initially Jerren was delighted with one of his characters realizing the truth, and worshiping him as a god, but he soon started to punish and torment her instead, as he turned himself into a god and took over New Ebott. Sasha had a plan to save her sister, but it failed: Jerren figured out her secret and captured her. But during the wedding, Sans showed up, and fought with Jerren. When Jerren was weakened, Sans split the anomaly away from Jerren’s soul, channeled the energy this released through his own soul, used his magic to open a portal to the void, and drew himself and the anomaly into it, removing both of them from existence.
