Does anyone really wanna watch Tennessee V. Washington?? Sunday night will be a huge match-up between teams that are legit super bowl contenders. Seattle has to reassert their swagger against St. Louis. Did the bye week help out Saints defense? Does the bye week help Andy Reid improve his stellar post-bye record? How many times does JJ Watt get to Roethlisberger?

Quick Slants
1.       The lack of pass rush against a mediocre raider line is cause for concern going forward. With injuries taking its toll on the secondary, though Shareece Wright will be back and Chris Davis looked serviceable in limited opportunities, the lack of heat on rookie Carr  and QBs going forward can really hurt the Bolts. Freeney is looking more and more like his age and isn’t as effective playing nearly 40 snaps a game which should be closer to 20. Attaochu made a big play that would have ended the game, but after missing need reps it looks like the learning curve is still there for the oft injured athletic rookie. We need Super Melvin back, eligible to come off the short term IR following our bye week, is an integral part of the pass rush entering the final stages of the season. If he can be effective getting to the QB and keep Freeney fresh and allow Attaochu to grow/get healthy in a limited role then the defense will be super.
2.       Not enough can be said about the play of Branden Oliver and how he literally put the team on his back in the 4th quarter. The final 4 plays on offense were safe yet effective runs that proves the teams faith in Oliver but also his talent to succeed under pressure. Specifically though on his go-ahead scoring plunge he kept the ball close to his body as he dove over the pile. Multiple times RBs reach the ball away from their body which allows defenders to swipe for easy fumbles, Mathews has been guilty of this on occasion, which is why I want to highlight such a small part of what can make BO43 a successful player going forward.
3.       We took Oakland’s best shot and survived. The saying goes “ Any given Sunday” and thankfully the Bolts avoided a huge letdown. Oakland had an extra week to prepare and fire in their hearts to pull off the upset, but this organization under new leadership found a way when they weren’t at their best a testament to the new culture of the team.

8-7...meh
Taking a lot of road teams this week. Really think Andrew Luck proves what team is the class of the AFC South versus the Texans. Denver could be giving 14+ and id still take them, NYJ looked that bad in SD. Browns Steelers will be a brutal game so ill take the points. Jacksonville has to win sometime and Tennessee make other teams look really good by being opportunistically bad. Matt Ryan will pick apart a bad secondary and Forte will do the same to a bad defensive line. Not enough time on a bye week for Tannehill to resemble is opposite number. Lions have too many injuries, Vikings enjoy home without Ponder. Bengals right the ship at home and non-primetime. Raiders look buried like their last 4 weeks and last decade. Is Romo & Co for real? First real test since week 1 debacle against 49ers when they looked bad. Who's gonna QB for the birds? Giants getting on a roll get stymied by incumbent Eagles, look for Foles to get the offense humming again. Niners deserve better, leaning on tried and true methods of defense and Gore that Rams can't match.
Bold Prediction 10/9/14
Rams will be only team in LA in 2015 season.

Week 5
Vikings v. Packers (-9)
Can't believe Christian Ponder actually led the Vikings to the playoffs.
Bears (+2.5) v. Panthers
Can the Panther secondary keep Marshall and Jeffrey in check, i say no
Browns (+1.5) v. Titans
Browns D steps up against shaky Titan O.
Rams v. Eagles (-7)
Eagles fly as Ram D has been almost non-existent this year.
Falcons v. Giants (-4)
Giants take advantage like Minnesota did a week prior.
Bucs v. Saints (-10.5)
Saints enjoy some home cooking.
Texans v. Cowboys (-4)
Battle of Texas goes to Romo and Murray.
Bills (+7) v. Lions
The change to Orton gives Bills enough balance on O to help underrated D.
Ravens (+3.5) v. Colts
Ex-colts coming home.
Steelers (-6.5) v. Jaguars
Big Ben vs. Big Ben Jr., Tomlin wont let team lose twice to winless teams.
Cards v. Broncos (-7)
Manning at home with a week of preparation to much for no fly zone to handle.
Chiefs v. 49ers (-6.5)
Chiefs flash on Monday night but fizzle on the road as 49ers looking to play for their coach.
Jets v. Chargers (-6.5)
Rivers aerial assault continues against depleted NYJ secondary.
Bengals v. Patriots (+1)
Bengals show stripes in primetime as Patriots hand them their first loss of the season.
Seattle (-7.5) v. DC
Does Kirk Cousins survive?
9-6

TEN v. INDY -7.5
Panthers +3 v. Ravens
Lions -1.5 v. Jets
Bucs +7.5 v Steelers

 6-7
Giants show some life on offense last week keeps the game close in the 4th.
Cutler showing some swag in the pocket, a trait that his opposite number seems missing so far this year.
Good Ds and weak QBs but one team will be 3-1 at the quarter pole.
Two similar teams but only one has a franchise QB, Colts roll.
Steve Smith Bowl, better defense wins. Steve Smith Sr has a big day though.
Stingy front 7s but Lions show more balance on O to win on the road.
The Bucs have to cover eventually.
Turmoil in Miami, Hope in Oakland. Oakland covers.
If Chargers play down to competition they would need to lose a couple more starters.
Falcons soar as Vikings turn page into Bridgewater era.
Chip Kelly spreads the 9ers D too thin and cover in shoot out in Santa Clara.
AT&T Stadium becomes Superdome west for Brees and Co.
Hard to count out Pats who struggled against Oakland, but Arrowhead will rock on Monday Night and be the edge KC needs.

The Curious Case of Ryan Mathews.
What we know, RM has a sprained MCL from Sunday's game and could miss 4+ games. We know that RM can't really stay healthy and doesn't do the best job protecting the football. But what he does is tote the rock with explosion and power and has home run hitting capabilities that keep defenses honest.
Personally I never had much faith in RM staying healthy a full season so what this injury does is allow for the Chargers brass to see what type of production to expect from their offseason pick up Donald Brown and preseason carry over Oliver and mid season pick up Shaun Draughn.

Week 2 Beyond the Headlines
With Antonio Gates dominating headlines because of a performance reminiscent of his much younger self an overlooked Eddie Royal deserves much praise for his stellar albeit not as attention grabbing performance against the vaunted Legion of Boom. With 7 catches for 69 yards plus a huge fumble recovery Royal really stepped up to the plate following a disappointing performance last week in Arizona. Many of Royal's plays kept the offense in rhythm and out of long down and distance attempts which led to such a command of the time of possession and ultimately wore down the defending champ.
Melvin Ingram and Dwight Freeney are doing a tremendous job of getting QBs off their spot and limiting the amount of time they have to work in the pocket. As the pressure created by our front 4-5 so goes the ability of the secondary to capitalize on QB mistakes, Russell Wilson didn't have too many opportunities yesterday to make plays out of the pocket as the pressure seemed to come from all directions, a testament to changes made after Carson Palmer made a few big plays with his legs the week prior.
As week 1 weaknesses such as drops and containing the QB were eliminated in week 2 against a team that capitalizes on those mistakes I have full confidence in the Chargers coaching staff to maximize player potential based on past performances.
1-1 but the arrow is pointing up with a solid road test up coming in Buffalo.

what would it take to keep the san diego chargers in san diego?
a purely hypothetical question currently because today Chargers owner Mr. Spanos has come out and said that he has no intentions of uprooting the team for the only home the team has ever know.
but lets say that a move to another city was realistically on the table, what would it take to keep the Chargers in San Diego.
First is a home, and by home i mean stadium. This is an issue that has a complicated answer. first is money, the city, state, and Spanos' say that they dont have the funds to build one, so a collective effort is the main key.
simple answer is money.
the nfl is one of the most popular businesses in america. with branches located all over the nation the nfl makes billions of dollars.
keeping the franchise in san diego comes down to the question, do the owners make more here than somewhere else? provided the overhead costs of moving a team and the re-branding, all costs are the same. majority of profits come from the stadium, and alas the most glaring issue that faces the san diego chargers.
qualcomm stadium is dated and dilapidated. and thats putting it nicely. this prevents the chargers from selling higher priced tickets maxing out attendance. the on field performance also has alot to do with such variable things. and this is the answer to the posed question
winning. ultimately the national football league and all other athletic competitions boil down to one thing at the professional level. wins. championships define careers, create legacys, wining moments are cherished forever. and winning is the key to keep the bolts from bolting else where.
the city of san diego is a decent sized metropolis with millions of residents and thousands of visitors every day. considered americas finest city with a huge miltary presence and the finest weather on the planet, san diegans are a spoiled bunch with so many opportunities to spend free time. but there is one thing that all people love, and that is a winner.
most san diegans would rather associate themselves with the chargers rather than the padres, and guess what the padres have that the chargers desperately need? a new downtown stadium. how was Petco PArk built in a city that cant pay its own employees? oh how convenient by popular vote by its citizens. and how did the Padres pull of such a heist? by winning a NL Pennant in 1998 the same year the ballot measure proposition C was voted on to increase local taxes to help fund the downtown ballpark.
so the stars aligned for the Padres and a few years later they moved into their new digs and have settled into a middle of the road baseball team that hasnt quite reached the heights that they did that magical year, but they do have the comfort of a place to call home for the next 50 years. if only the chargers could be so lucky and have lightning strike like it did for their neighbors.
the padres proved it once, the city of san diego loves to spend money on a winner, and if the chargers win on the field soon, they will be winning in a brand new stadium in a few years.

Week 1 observations
1.       No hands, too many drops and miscues in receiving the ball. With the invention of the forward pass the next logical step would be to catch said forward pass. Last night the chargers let multiple passes fall through their hand and bounce off their chests. This wasn’t just an issue with the offense and the defense was just as guilty of letting interceptions fall to the turf im looking at you Weddle and gilchrist.
2.       All hail Tom Telesco. Last night the top two  draft picks of the san Diego chargers showcased well. It’s a small sample size considering their lack of opportunities in the preseason but Verrett and Attachou both flashed skills to be top players in the League. Combined with the starters from last year’s draft class Te’o, Fluker, and Allen it looks like Telesco can hit at the top of the draft and that I believe is an essential skill to be a contender in today’s NFL.
3.       Ladarius Green is the WORST RUN BLOCKING tight end in the league bar none. Just watching him last night I’m convinced that no one else in the NFL at his position can block no worse than him. He was repeatedly getting beaten at the point of attack and allowed his defender to make multiple tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Until I see further improvement in that area if I was mike McCoy I would start Philips or Johnson in his place.
