It messes me up to consider how in every timeline, Ryouta can never be truly happy, at least not without great loss first. In the main timeline, he loses his mother, admitting that he'll be messed up from it for a long time.

In Holiday Star he has to confront his deepest fears of losing Hiyoko, fears that never truly get resolved, only able to admit that he can't run from it.

And I don't think I need to get into BBL.

Even in Mirror, from the bits and pieces we've got from it, Ryouta still seems troubled even here. The others got to avoid their losses but Ryouta still sits in a broken home, perhaps having even more pain buried away now (especially judging by the weirdness of Mirror Ryouta art)

And sure, there's others who always get it a bit rough even in their best outcomes like Sakuya... But there's just something so heartbreaking to the fact that Ryouta, who often serves as anchor and beacon to others just can't ever have that.

it's a complicated subject so i get why media doesn't really cover it but i wish more media about pacifism was interested in different forms of violence and what it means to oppose them

when we talk about pacifism, it's nearly always in the context of physical violence, but that's not the only kind. economic violence is just as real, and often can have even more disastrous effects. US and international sanctions can have just as strong an effect on a populous as carpet bombing the countryside. thus, to be a pacifist means not just to oppose physical violence, but economic violence as well, and mental violence (torture and psychological warfare fall under this label), and other forms of violence as well

to focus just on physical violence in pacifism is to ignore the many other ways that people can be harmed, and the other ways that we must try to protect each other
