Day Three - Accidental Baby Acquisition

“What the fuck is that?” Klaus asked, head tilting so far to the side that it probably would have hurt if he were a little more sober.

“It’s a baby,” Diego said flatly, wincing as the thing kept wailing.

Klaus squinted at him, squeezed his eyes shut, and opened them again. Squeezed them shut, opened, blinking dazedly at him.

“You’re not hallucinating it,” Diego said. “It’s a baby.”

Klaus stumbled on nothing as he crossed the boiler room, his head still twisted at an odd angle as he stared at the child intently. He reached out with one longer finger, slowly approaching, slowly, slowly, and then—poke.

“Well, fuck me,” Klaus breathed. “Either I’m on some really, really good shit right now, or that’s a real life human.” He looked up at Diego, face still inches from the baby. “Who’d you knock up?”

“I didn’t knock anyone up,” Diego said, shifting the baby into his other arm. “I found it.”

“How do you find a baby?”

Diego groaned. “What are you doing here, Klaus?”

“Me?”

“Yes, you, here, in my place, at 3am on a Tuesday.”

“Isn’t it Monday? I thought it was Monday.”

“Oh my god,” Diego muttered, turning away. The infant dialled its screaming up a notch and Diego winced. He’d never really been one for migraines, but he was definitely getting one right then. “How do I make it stop?”

“I’m guessing it’ll be a hard ‘no’ on some spiked milk?”

“Yes!”

“Then sorry, fresh out of ideas, broseph!”

“Can you just… I don’t know… Hold it?” Diego said, trying to shift the thing so he could hold it out to Klaus.

Klaus’ eyes widened in terror and he shook his head fiercely, tucking his hands under his armpits. “Nope, nope, nope! Nope! Finders, keepers!”

Day Five - Fairytale AU

This was it. Klaus had finally lost his mind.

Well. That was an exaggeration. He’d definitely lost it years ago.

But this was worse. Far worse.

“What the fuck?” Ben said from beside him.

“Wait?” Klaus spun abruptly to face him. “You can see him too?”

“Obviously. But I see everything you see.”

The man by the window remained still, his expression bewildered. Klaus returned to staring at him and took a cautious step closer. And then another. And then another.

The man took a step back but was stopped by the windowsill.

Klaus slowly reached out and then tried to wave a hand through the ghost’s arm and—

“Hey! What was that for?”

“Oh shit.” Klaus leaned in close, studying the face of the not-ghost before him. He narrowed his eyes. “Either I’ve entirely lost it, and the hallucinations have just gotten a fuckload more scary or…”

“I’m not a hallucination,” Mr Not-Ghost said, side-stepping to try and get away from Klaus.

“Prove it!” Ben called. He was leaning against the wall on the other side of the room, arms folded across his chest.

“Yeah! Prove it!” Klaus agreed, turning back to him and settling his hands on his hips.

“Prove I’m not a hallucination?”

“Exactly.”

“I don’t need to prove I’m not a hallucination.”

“Then what are you doing here?”

“I was trying to escape one crazy idiot, but it seemed I’ve just found myself another.”

Klaus leaned over the edge of the window and peered below. There was nobody down there.

“Are you sure you’re not the crazy one?”

“Hey, you can both be crazy,” Ben pointed out, still leaning casually against the wall.

No Hablo Español (Kliego Week Day 6)

For the Kliego Week Prompt - Hurt/Comfort! Diego has struggled with an identity crisis all of his life and Klaus is just doing his best to cheer him up.

The first time Diego realizes he’s not like his siblings is when Mom names them. 

He’s five, and he doesn’t understand a lot about what is going on, but he’s told that if he wants he can go by this other name and not Number Two. He’s not sure at first but the way his mother smiles when she says his name makes him use it. 

It takes a bit for his tongue to get used to forming the sound, like all the other words in his vocabulary but he gets there. He’s in the middle of one of his speech therapy sessions with Mom when he asks how she chose their names. 

“Well I asked your father where he adopted you all from and I gave you names from there,” she says brightly and pulls a globe from Diego’s desk. “He found your sister, Vanya, here in Russia,” she begins, and turns the globe pointing out where the rest of his siblings came from - Luther from England, Klaus from Germany, Allison and Ben both from the United States, and Five from Turkey.

“W-w-where am I f-from?” he asks, eagerly scanning his eyes over the globe, but his excitement ends when his mother looks unsure. 

“Well you know your Father, he’s a very busy man, and he didn’t get a chance to write down where he adopted you from. But he did tell me that he found you in Central America,” she continues, running her painted finger over the cluster of countries. “In Central America,” she continues, “they speak Spanish and Diego is a Spanish name, which is why I picked it for you.”

Diego just nods. He’s not sure why his stomach twists the way it does. Maybe it’s because he doesn’t know how to make words come out in the right way, or maybe it’s because his name is still heavy on his tongue. It would only be years later when he looks back on the memory that it was a pang of knowing there’d always be a piece missing from him.

For the Kliego Week Prompt - Soulmates AU! Klaus has a secondary power where when he kisses someone he sees the last time they kiss, not matter what the outcome.

The first time it happens Klaus has no idea what’s happening. A press of lips, the sensation of another kiss over it, and then back to the current kiss.

He doesn’t understand until two weeks later. Klaus is kissing the same boy again when he experiences a tinge of deja vu from the make-out session. Klaus can’t place it but before he can think about it more, the boy Klaus has been sneaking out to see is apologizing, telling Klaus that he can’t see him again. Through the tears, Klaus shakes off the sensation under the rationale of coincidence and goes back to the Academy.

Then it happens again.

And again.

And again.

A kiss. A vision. An ending.

He pieces it together eventually. Klaus’ powers have another facet, one he wishes he could do away with sometimes more than the ghosts.

When Klaus has a first kiss, he also experiences the last. Every time.
