Tatis gunned down Trea Turner going for stretch double and didn't see the tag get applied because he was apologizing to the people he bumped into in the course of making the play.

Manny is expected to return to the lineup today against Philadelphia, Jackson Merrill however is expected to sit out for a little longer due to that groin strain.
The outfields future rests on that groin, understandable they want to play it safe.

Randy Vasquez gets chased early but our bullpen continues to be a bright spot for the team. Jhony gives two and a third scoreless before Enyel comes in to strike out back to back to back Rockies after their first two batters reach in the sixth. Then he strikes out another in the 7th for 4 K's in a row. What a stud.
Colorado rallies big time in the 8th off Yuki, Wandy, Kolek and some costly passed ball/wild pitches. Despite the offense firing on all cylinders, impressive showings by Jhony and Enyel, the Rockies end up taking the win 10-9 and splitting the 4 game series. Wandy takes the loss for today.
A lot of things had to go wrong for us to lose that one and everytime something could, it did. What a shame.
On the bright side everyone in the lineup got at least one hit. Once Yu is back in the rotation we'll hopefully have a little more consistency there to make the most of the front of our pen which is stacked.
Here's a cute pic of the boys as a pallette cleanser

Fernando is just so insanely good. As Don and Mud are talking about an amazing sliding catch in foul territory he made earlier in the game he makes a jumping catch in the gap to take away an extra base hit from George Springer.
Could have hit it anywhere else, George. That's my platinum glover.

After a frustrating top of the first in which an error by Graham Pauley (his first game back in the majors after being sent down) cost the Padres 3 runs, the tension boiled over.
Profar struck out looking on a pitch near the edge to end the inning with two runners on. He disagreed with the call and spiked his bat. Home plate umpire Ramon De Jesus pointed to the bat to indicate an equipment violation (and fine). JP then spiked his helmet and was subsequently hooked. Schildt came charging out of the dugout like an action hero to stick up for his guy and was also tossed.
Jose Azocar, Jurickson's stand-in after being ejected almost immediately misplays a fly ball to left to extend the inning and allow another run to score.
Between Manny's injury and a general lack of depth the team's core really can't afford to be getting tossed like that. Jurickson's passion and emotion are why I love him so much but you gotta keep your composure in that spot even though blue is being inconsistent as all get out.

Pedro Avila is traded to Cleveland for cash, Logan Gillaspie is called up from El Paso. Gillaspie was acquired off waivers in the off season and posted a flat ERA of 9 having earned 5 runs in 5 IP as a Chihuahua. His career ERA in the majors (over two years in Baltimore) is 4.1 through 26.1 IP.
Difficult to see what leg he has up on Avila who was shaky but had good showings as a spot starter/long reliever. Best of luck in the Guardian's organization, Pedro. Looking forward to seeing what Reuben can bring out of Logan.

An unfortunate 0-1 loss for the Padres and Michael King who gave 7.2 IP and only a single earned run. Padres bats unable to score despite multiple extra base hits including a leadoff triple by Matthew Batten, the first of his career. Jackson Merrill also hit his first triple in the majors but was left on as well.
A really excellent showing by Michael "King of the Hill" King nonetheless.

Dads win game 2 against the Brewers 6-3 thanks in part to a 3 run homer by HSK and 6IP with just a single run allowed by Dylan Cease. Jurickson played first base with Jake still nursing that leg strain. He played well including a hotshot that the runner on first had to Mario jump over to not be hit by. With that win the Padres are 11-9 and have taken 3 consecutive series. We're. So. Back.
Angel Hernandez was home plate umpire and that went about as you'd expect it to. Called a balk from the dish, strike zone was all over the place and he was really stingy with appealing for check swing calls.

Padres with yet another come from behind W, taking the score from 0-3 to 7-3. Message of the day would have to be plate discipline and situational hitting; two of the team's bigger weaknesses in 2023 on display as refined weapons in the team's toolkit. The bullpen again put up nothing but 0's to secure the Friar's lead once they got it. Suarez picked up his 6th save of the season.
The boys are really starting to fire on all cylinders.

"'He's been leading this team big-time,' Machado said about Profar postgame, according to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune. 'Numbers speak for themselves. Every time he comes out here and steps on the field, he makes a big impact. ... The boy got 10 years in the league. There's only a handful of baseball players in all of baseball that have accomplished that goal, so got to put a little respect on his name.'"
Manny's response to Will Smith calling Jurickson "irrelevant."

Padres beat the dodgers 6-3. LA pitching issued 14 walks, and the Padres pen was in a uniquely dominant form. Suarez as a closer is proving to be truly invaluable and he looks as good as ever on the bump. Jurickson Profar is quickly becoming a favorite player of yours truly. Love that guy to pieces.
What a series, it really had it all. An amazing comeback, a bench clearing, defense pulling high avg balls-in-play off the board and back and forth play throughout.
And most importantly the Padres won the series against their surging division rivals. Padres are now .500 on the season and looking to build a winning record in Milwaukee against the 10-4 Brewers.

Dodger fan things:
Booing your own pitcher for throwing a pickoff
Clapping when an opposing player might be injured on a play
Booing your team's manager for intentionally walking a slugger with a open base
Like why even go to a game if you hate baseball so much

We start the game against the team who shall not be named with a single by Tatis and a home run by Manny.
Tumblr media
Naturally Ohtani, having bet the over, immediately follows up with a solo homer of his own to put LA on the board.
Tumblr media
Kim goes yard in his first AB well! 👑 Handsome King makes it a 2 run game again, 3-1 Padres in the second. Fun fact, Yamamoto the starter for the dodgers has given up 8 runs this season, all of them to San Diego in this game and during the Korea series.
Well my totally legal™ stream died (o7) but according to ESPN the dodgers put up 4 runs in the bottom of the second. Nothing but faith in the boys ability to mount a comeback though. The got that dog in them no question.
Jake homers! 4-7 dodgers after 6.
Padres come back to tie in the 7th!! Tatis homers to drive in Wade! Xander small balls an RBI! Padres don't go down that easy you rat bastards! BEAT LA!
Found a working stream just in time to watch Freddie go down in 3 pitches and end the 9th. We move on to bonus baseball. Stand as one with me friar faithful!
A scoreless 10th, but in the top of the 11th Merrill drives in the ghost runner Jose Azocar, PADRES HAVE THE LEAD AND ARE THREE OUTS FROM ANOTHER HEROIC COMEBACK
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Suarez records the final three outs and Padres seal another improbable dub this time against a division rival. The curse of extra innings is over. The Padres that can't battle against adversity are gone. This is our year baby. If I've said it once I've said it a thousand times...

Jake interrupts the first base fashion show to drive in Tatis and his dope kicks in for a 2-run shot to kickstart a Padres rally. Manny, Kim and Profar work to close the lead and make it a 3 run ballgame for the cubs.
We call those the rally cleats from now on.
Tumblr media
Xander crushes a 2 run bomb of his own make the game 8-7 Cubs. All those "fans" who dipped to beat traffic were jinxes, it turns out.
Tumblr media
NANDO HITS A 2-RUN HOMER OF HIS OWN TO PUT THE PADRES IN FRONT IN THE 8TH!!
Friars are 3 outs from a LEGENDARY comeback!!
Suzuki, Bellinger and Garret Cooper go down in order to secure an absolute all time classic game for the Padres. Down 8 runs in the sixth, and battling back against all odds against a vicious Cubs lineup to get the dub.
I love this team so damn much.
