Tackle Spring Cleaning Easily
Tumblr media
Spring is near, bringing fresh clean air, beautiful wildflowers and warmer weather. With spring on the horizon, Spring Cleaning is on everyone's mind. Warmer weather and sunshine can help us become more productive, making it the perfect time to tackle all those projects you have been putting off since the cold weather kicked in. If you are wondering where to begin and how to tackle this year's Spring Cleaning, we have a few tips to get you started.
Make a Plan: Designate which areas in your home you would like to focus on first. Make a list in order of importance so you can have an idea of what you need to tackle first. Some experts recommend starting with the most labor intensive areas of your home first while you are feeling the most motivated.
Clear the Clutter: Once you have an idea of what you’re going to tackle first, you’ll want to begin clearing all the clutter from that space. Cleaning experts agree that removing clutter such as, outgrown clothes, broken toys, broken electronics, outdated papers, expired food, and any other unused or miscellaneous junk, will help make cleaning every room much easier. Just make a pile of everything broken, outgrown, and unused in your garage or other designated area. Once you have gathered everything you need to get rid of, the quickest way to make it disappear is to call a junk removal company like Platinum Bucket to come remove everything for you. Same day service is often available, making it easy for you to continue onto the next task while you're feeling the most motivated.
Get Started: Once you have designated which areas in your home to tackle first, it's time to get started. One of the best places to begin is your bedroom. Your bedroom is the place you spend the most time in, and should be a place of relaxation to help promote a better sleeping environment. Better Sleep, means more productivity. Over the last year, you may have collected dust bunnies on the fan, and more dust and cobwebs in the corners and walls of your home and even deep within your closet. All that dust can contribute to allergies and affect your sleep.

Cleaning Your Bedroom: Many experts recommend starting with your closet first. Remove everything from your closet, so you can dust, vacuum, and create a clean, safe environment for your wardrobe. This will also help you identify if you have any harmful pests that can ruin your clothes over time. Once your closet is clean, you can begin organizing all your clothes, shoes, and other items back in your closet. If you identify anything you have not worn in a while, you can set it aside for donations or add it to your junk pile. Once everything is organized back into your closet, you can remove all your bedding, and bring it to your laundry room for washing. If there is anything, not put away, make sure you find a home for it, or add it to your donation or junk pile. Next, dust your fan, walls, baseboards, windows, and everywhere else in your room that needs dusting. After you have finished dusting, you may want to clean your mattress with a carpet cleaning machine to remove any stains or dust particles hiding in there. While your mattress is drying, you can vacuum and move your bed, chairs, nightstands, dressers and other furniture around to cover parts of the room that you probably have not vacuumed all year. Once you have finished dusting, vacuuming, and organizing your room, and your mattress has dried, you can make your bed with fresh sheets, and your freshly washed pillows and comforter. Once your bed is made, you can relax in your fresh clean room or start to tackle the next project.

Cleaning Your Bathroom: Once your bedroom is clean, you may naturally progress to wanting a clean bathroom, especially if it's attached to your bedroom. One chore that many neglect all year is cleaning your shower or tub. After a while, it may have built up mold and other bacteria. Cleaning your shower can be a huge undertaking and should be tackled early on in your spring cleaning. Spray your shower and/or bath with an all purpose cleaning spray or disinfectant and use the rough side of a cleaning sponge to clean off any mold, grime and all bacteria from the shower. Once you have finished scrubbing, you can rinse the bath or shower off using the shower head. Having a bucket handy is helpful for rinsing areas of your shower that your shower may not reach.
Next you can move onto your toilet, counters, and mirrors. Make sure everything on the counter that you use daily has a place and is put away. If you didn’t already organize the space under your sink before you got started, you will want to do that next. Empty out your drawers, and cupboards under the sink and only put back what you use in an organized way. This will help you more easily access what you need, when you need it. If you find anything that is expired, or that you no longer use, throw it away.
Once you have cleaned your shower, toilet, bathroom counters, facet, sink, mirrors, and organized all the cabinets, you can finish by cleaning the floors.

Cleaning Your Kitchen: There are many places in your kitchen that probably haven't had attention in a while, maybe even years. As stated previously, you'll want to get rid of any unused or expired items first. Empty all your cupboards and clean them from any food crumbs or dust. Throw away any expired food. If you come across any pots, pans, tupperware, plates, utensils, or anything else you don’t use, you can throw it away or add it to your donation or junk pile. Once your cabinets are clean and everything is put away, you can tackle your fridge. Cleaning your refrigerator is best to do when it's almost completely empty. If you can, time your kitchen cleaning just before grocery shopping after finishing the majority of the food in your fridge and freezer. Empty out your fridge of whatever is left, and clean the inside from any food that may have spilled. Again, make sure to throw away anything that's expired. Once your fridge is clean, you can put everything back and organize it in a way that will help you see everything you have and be inspired to cook. Next you will want to deep clean the rest of your appliances. Chances are, your stove, microwave, and dishwasher have not been cleaned all year. A clean dishwasher, means cleaner dishes, and you'll want to make sure your stove, toaster oven, and microwave are clean and sanitized to better cook your food and prevent smoke or fires. Once all the appliances, drawers, and cupboards have been cleaned, you can move onto the items you probably clean often, counters, stove top, and sink. Don’t forget to clean the garbage disposal and sink faucet. Lastly, you can end with sweeping and mopping the floors.

Cleaning Your Living Room: Cleaning the living room should be one of the last tasks on your list. Your Living Room is arguably the most used room in your home, where your family spends the most time together, and also where most messes are created. Starting here can be discouraging, because it's easy for this space to become messy again, soon after it's been cleaned and tidy, but it's still very necessary to upkeep the cleanliness of your most used space in your home. Before you begin, make sure you put everything that is out of place, away. If you come across anything unused, and you can’t find a home for it, put it in your donation or junk pile. Next, If you have the strength, and some helpers, move your couch. The floor under your couch has most likely been untouched all year, collecting all kinds of dust and possibly even food. Once you move your couch you can dust the room. Make sure to dust all the counters, walls, and corners of the room. Once you finish dusting you can move on to cleaning and vacuuming the floors, make sure to give special attention to the floor where your couch was. After the floor is clean, you can move your couch back in place. Next, you can vacuum your couch and use an upholstery cleaning machine to clean the stains. Many people like to use an upholstery cleaner or whatever brand came with your machine, but my favorite, homemade cleaner is made from a solution of dawn dishwashing soap, water, and odoban disinfectant. This combination will remove almost any stain and leave your couch smelling clean and free of any germs. It's also great for knocking out any pet odors in homes with pets. After you finish cleaning your couch you can use disinfecting wipes to clean any surfaces such as coffee tables, Tv stands, entertainment centers, and side tables.

Cleaning Your Dining Room: Like your Living Room, your dining room gets a lot of use every day. Chances are, it's cleaned often which is why it's a great place to end. You can start by clearing all the clutter from your dining table, wine cabinet, junk drawers, and any other furniture in that space. Once again, make sure everything has a home, and donate anything that you don’t use or add it to your junk pile. Once all the surfaces of your dining table and other furniture are clutter free, you can sanitize them. If you have wood furniture, I like to use some Old English to polish the wood and make it shine. Once that is complete, empty your trash bins and clean the bins and the walls surrounding them. You can finish cleaning this space by sweeping and mopping the floors.

Cleaning your Laundry Room: If you have a Laundry Room this may be the last space you clean. Like the previous rooms, you will want to start by removing clutter and making sure everything in this space has a home. Anything you don't use can be donated or added to your junk pile. Next, dust the walls, corners, and the area behind your washing machine and dryer. Last, you can clean the floors.
Cleaning can be Overwhelming but removing all your junk, old furniture, and appliances, does not have to be. When you are ready to get rid of that junk pile you created or you are ready to part with that large piece of furniture, taking up some much needed space, call your trusted local, junk removal company to do the work for you.
