This is Waimea Canyon, on Kauai's West Side, AKA, “The Grand Canyon of the Pacific.” Not as big or as old as the mainland Grand Canyon but it is unlike anything else that can be found on any of the Hawaiian islands. Waimea Canyon is 14 miles long, 1 mile wide and more than 3,600 feet deep.

Makauwahi Cave Reserve in Poipu, Kauai is a large limestone cave, the largest that can be found on any of the Hawaiian islands. A sand dune fossilized over time, 400,000 years to be exact, and turned to stone. Approximately 7,000 years ago, as groundwater slowly eroded the limestone, the ceiling in the cave’s central room collapsed, creating a freshwater lake in the cave.

Spouting Horn on the South shore of Kauai. Pictured here you see the Poipu surf being pushed through an old lava tube, shooting up like a geyser and catching the sunlight beautifully.

These images are from one of the most challenging hikes I have ever completed! We went up a river, scrambling up and down rock walls, scrambling over boulders, and sliding through muddy bamboo forests to end up at this breathtaking waterfall. Kauai never ceased to take my breath away!

This secluded waterfall is known as Narnia. One of my favorite hikes on the island and one of the best places to take a dip.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park was partially closed the day I went but I was still able to see the steam vents and take in the spectacular views. Jurassic Park was filmed in Hawaii and the scenery kept reminding me of the movie (a film which scared the bejeezus out of me at a young age). The shrine pictured is located in a quiet zone of the park, marking the location of a sacred space. I was so grateful to bear witness to such breathtaking landscapes.
