honestly essay writing seems like a much more free medium imo, like I can just yap and get out everything I wanna say, it’s perfect for me. what would you write about?- 💌

i find that both mediums can be very freeing. i've dabbled in both, and i can confidently say that they're only restrictive when they're made to be. 

when i was younger i always associated essays with academics and quotes, citations, and research. i realized a bit ago that those are not the only essays that exist and there are many essays written that are simply just opinion pieces with no factual backing beyond the writers observations and opinions. 

i grew up writing creatively but i've been experiencing a major creative block lately and i've grown to associate creative blocks with writers block despite wanting to write; i just don't want to write fiction.

as i've gotten older i've become much more perceptive and now i think much more about things that i see around me. i don't live a very eventful life so i have a lot of time to people watch and really take in the things i hear and see regarding other people. i've become very good at noticing patterns in peoples behavior and one certain mainstream things trickle down and influencer the masses. 

pop culture and its influences are one of my biggest interests, and i find myself connecting it to almost everything i think about critically. i don't think people are unaware of how much the media influences us, but i don't think that many people give it much thought, you know what i mean? but it's something i think about a lot and find myself writing about a lot as well.

i love creative writing, and i always will, i also very well may change my mind and continue down that line, but as of right now, i'm heavily leaning toward opinion pieces and social commentary. i honestly should've seen it coming, i shit post on my ig story about this kind of stuff all the time, and i've written about 2.5 essays related to those topics.
