You know, an interesting tumblr transformation that's happened gradually, and which I've seen no one talk about: ask-culture has essentially dropped off to nothing.
By which I mean, asks used to be WAY more of the tumblr economy. They used to be more common to send, and receive, and see. They were integral to the collaborative, forum-like behavior of old tumblr communities, not even to speak on the HUGE number of ask-blogs that used to exist to only be interacted with in ask-form.
I'm not saying this in a vying-for-attention way but instead in an observational way: I used to get way way more asks in like 2015, even with a fraction of my follower count. I wonder if it's due to the homogenization of social media sites? There's a lot more of this divide between "content creator" and "consumer" instead of just a bunch of peer blogs who would talk to each other. "Asks" aren't really a thing on twitter, are they? And as I understand it, the closest thing to an "ask" on instagram or tiktok would be a creator screenshotting some comment and responding to it in a new reel or video or whatever those content mediums are. Are asks just too tumblr-specific? Is that aspect of the site culture dying out as more and more people converge to using all their social media sites in the same way?

Ok I have another question (a medical question teehee)
Let’s say someone was shot in the leg with an arrow, what are the steps you should take for dealing with that? How would you remove the arrow? How would you deal with the wound? All that jazz
Lofty's Recipe for Arrow Removal in Hyrule Magic Land
Take your blorbo and gently place him on the ground
Give him head pats
Tell him you're sorry for hurting him, Smiles
Remember that you, as a not trained medical professional, are not supposed to remove pointy objects from blorbos
Stabilize pointy object with gauze/cloth. Typically the way we do it is to wrap around the arrow and then around the leg. Don't use affected extremity, take blorbo to nearest medical help.
Remember that Hyrule doesn't have cautery and x-rays and surgeons and disregard previous 2 steps entirely. But really, if this were a modern setting you would do steps 4 and 5
Have a fairy available. Be sure to give fairy her copay of one cup of coffee to support her caffeine addiction
If no fairy is available or she refuses the coffee because let's be real coffee tastes terrible, use a potion instead
Before giving potion or utilizing fairy services, the arrow has to be removed
In removing an arrow you have to ensure proper control. Any impaled object caused massive damage going on, but once it's in, it's preventing further bleeding by being in place. Once you dislodge it and move it, the bleeding will increase, and you'll cause damage on the way out. So make sure to pull it straight out the way it came in.
Location matters! If that arrow is stuck in your blorbo's artery you'd better heal them fast once you remove it
If at all possible, just pull it out the way it went in. Do not push it through. You're creating new pathways of damage.
You might have to work the arrowhead if it's lodged in bone. Do so gently. Then apologize to your blorbo again for torturing them.
Remove arrow in a quick, fluid motion.
Once removed, give blorbo appropriate magical treatment ASAP.
Remember to tip your fairy
If there is no magical treatment available, refer to steps 4 and 5 until there is.

Every single fic update there is an author trying frantically to find the right balance between a nonchalant aside of "leave a comment if you enjoyed =)" and clinging desperately to the coat tails of a random stranger, dragging along behind them on the street wailing "Please, please! I have to know what you thought! I'm desperate to talk to people about this! Ask me about the alliterative repetition! Ask me about the symbolism!"

There’s a fic on fanfiction(.)net that I’ve kept tabs on for years to see if it’s been updated or not. While I’m no longer even in the fandom it’s written for, it just has one of the greatest storylines I’ve ever read. Last time it was updated was 2011.
The other day, I decided to reread the entire thing and leave a very in-depth review of what I thought of each chapter. I also mentioned how I started reading it when I was 13 and am now 21, but always came back to see if it was ever finished because I loved it so dearly.
Today, said author sent me a private message saying that her analytics showed that the story was still getting views even after all these years, but no one ever bothered to leave reviews other than “update soon!!!”, so she never felt motivated enough to finish it. She said that me reviewing every single chapter with lengthy paragraphs made her cry and meant the world to her. She also mentioned that she felt encouraged to write the two remaining chapters needed to complete the story and that she would send me a message the night before she updates the fic.
I’m literally sobbing. I’m so excited :’)
Please always remember to leave a review when reading fanfiction!!! It means a lot to a writer.

April 20, 2024. protests outside the Sde Teiman detention center in israel, where at least 40 Palestinian detainees have been tortured to death in the past six months. Sde Teiman was established shortly after October 7th, as an interrogation site for suspected Hamas members abducted from Gaza. Following new procedures of care that were passed by the israeli health ministry in December 2023, detainees in the facility and handcuffed 24 hours a day as a rule, in violation of israeli law and international law. In the beginning of April, a doctor who visited the Sde Teiman facility wrote an open letter about the conditions he witnessed.
“The Sde Teiman facility is supposed to operate according to the Incarceration of Unlawful Combatants Law amended last December. In the letter, the doctor claims that the facility does not comply with the law's conditions, including the right to medical treatment and equipment in accordance with detainees' medical condition, their right to hygienic conditions and adequate sleeping arrangements that don't endanger their health or harm their dignity. They also have the right to exercise outside for two hours a day.
In his letter, the doctor asserted that detainees don't receive appropriate care, even when they are moved to a hospital: ‘No patient who was referred to a hospital has remained there for more than a few hours. It happens that patients after major operations, such as abdominal surgeries for intestinal resections, are brought back after about an hour of post-op observation during recovery to the Sde Teiman medical facility, which is staffed most of the day by a single doctor, accompanied by a nursing team, some with no more than medic training.’
‘This makes all of us – the medical teams and you, those in charge of us in the health and defense ministries – complicit in the violation of Israeli law…’
Doctor at Israeli Field Hospital for Detained Gazans: 'We Are All Complicit in Breaking the Law,’ Haaretz. Apr 4, 2024

Everytime I see posts like this I get filled with such profound sadness
Cause you know who has the same brainrot as you? The same unhinged feelings as you after you've read the fic? The person who always wants to scream about the fic with you?
THE PERSON WHO WROTE IT
I never used to leave comments but since I got into the habit of commenting on everything i enjoy it's been incredible. Especially when the author gets back to me about it and we get to have a discussion of what other ideas they had. One writer replied to my comment with a 5 paragraph essay detailing the Floorplan of the building the characters lived in and it was incredible
Anyways this is all to say that if you find a fic that just makes you want to scream from the rooftops, leave a comment saying that to the author and maybe they will join you and you can scream incoherently together

[id: a digital art piece of Link from Twilight Princess. He is wearing his Ordonian clothes from the start of the game. He is sitting down, slouched over, with one hand holding a Stetson over his head. The text on the image reads, “Is it really possible for a country boy to break the cycle of death and rebirth?” end id.]
