btw I've been reading "Evil As Humans" by Nian Zhong and I'm really enjoying it. The premise: some sort of great eldritch horror (the translation uses the rather generic phrase "evil spirit," but given some of the descriptions of these things, "eldritch" is definitely appropriate) has been freed from his thousand-years seal. He would very much like to just blend into the human world, go unnoticed, and have a chance to relax. But instead, he gets roped into the local branch of the SCP foundation secret not-quite-government paranormal agency. So far he's managed to keep up the human guise…

It's a case-of-the-week format, with some overarching plot carrying through. The ML is just as mysterious as the MC and I've really enjoyed the progression of their relationship from suspicious coworkers to coworkers who have each others' backs to ? friends ? (and they were roommates). There is a fair bit of gore and body horror, but so far (and I'm only a third of the way through) the cases have had satisfying conclusions with our heroes managing to save those in need of saving. So I might call it more horror-flavored than horror, but again, I have a lot left to read.

But anyway read Evil As Humans if you want to see an eldritch horror eat an apple with a mouth he grew at the end of his prehensile hair (but on the other hand, says his partner, he isn't eating on the couch).
