imagine when you are a little boy looking at a guy who is your age and has the kindest eyes and then getting whiplash as he tries to absolutely murder you on track and is a track terror. then you go 'what an idiot' but universe screams 'he is just like you actually, in many ways' and you both try to fight each other with everything.

then you both grow up and still are fighting each other at the very stop of the sport (you know he was going to be there, he is sure you were always going to be there too) but now the universe sings and you both listen to it.

For context of why Max puts up with all of Charles mildly-evil shenanigans and still holds him dear to him: He's a cat dad. We cat carers are used to tending to little hellspawns who revel on chaos and are fickle, settling with the occasional morcels of affection they deem to deliver. That and Max has a negative number in the "Fucks To Give" count about literally anything.

I am a psychology student in Belgium so sorry if I make any mistakes. But you will find this a little twisted but Charles' behavior fascinates me. It is very complex and paradoxical. Much more than people think. He is a person who is very expressive, attentive and friendly, there is no doubt about it, but at the same time he is a person who is difficult to decipher and who seems to put a distance between himself and the world. When you look closely, he doesn't reveal much about his feelings or thoughts unlike the other drivers. He uses words very well and he has perfect media training as a result, he manages to completely deflect the question or give the impression that he has answered the question or that he has revealed certain things about himself when in reality he said absolutely nothing. It's the same thing on his networks, he gives the impression that he's showing things but ultimately he doesn't give a lot of personal information. He just confirms things we already knew, it doesn't reveal anything new.

And when we listen to the testimonies of people who worked with him and who knew him as a child, they all say that he is a perfectionist, who is always looking to improve, sometimes even it becomes an obsession. Charles wants perfection, this can be seen in his way of doing things. When he was younger his madness, passion and ambition were much more visible. I think that the media preparation and the trials of life have calmed him down and helped him to be more discreet about these parts of him.

sorry but it's my psychological side that will take over because Charles has the typical behavior of a person who has experienced grief, who had difficulty accepting it and who lost a parent young. This is a behavior that I have already been able to study and observe. Charles places great importance on remembering things and people. He often says that it is important that we remember them and he always has a reminder of them (especially his helmet). This comes from the fear of being forgotten and the guilt of continuing to live without them. (Charles himself said that after the race he did after the death of his father and Antoine he felt guilty because he no longer thought of anything and it was as if he had forgotten them). Being in the car and driving is a vital moment for him because it is an escape, it is his sanctuary where he can forget everything. (many people take refuge in activities or sometimes in less healthy things to have a moment of peace and feel good, it is a way to forget the pain).

Another important element in Charles is his need for control. In the recent f1 video (grill answering questions), he says he doesn't like not being in control. This is seen in his behavior, he needs to control things (because the things he could not control caused him pain, his losses are due to things he had no control over (accident, illness). The reason he thrives so much on driving is that he is in control. In an interview he said he was afraid of flying and to improve that he took flying lessons to see how it worked.

And there is still so much to say about the depth and complexity of Charles. But I want to point out that these are just my theories, that I may be wrong about everything. What I said is only based on my observations and my interpretation of Charles. All this is not enough to know a person, to really get an insight into Charles's character I would have to talk to him and get to know him more which is not the case. I just made observations that I based on things that I have already been able to observe, this does not mean that it is reality. I just wanted to share this with you.
