Jean-Baptiste Poncet, 1827/1901
A young flute player by the sea, 1861
Larger than natural, the painting is 75"/57"
Note, the lizard, considered a good luck charm in many cultures, it symbolizes regeneration, so here the young boy carrying new seed.
This one plays the Aulos.
Called “aulete” he had a central role in the sacrifices and in the Panhellenic Games had the role of conductor in the ancient “orchestra”.
