That was as big a fib as any, but sometimes it was hard to stave away the Haruno sense of humor from casual interactions like this. Still, traveling as extensively as she did, what she thought to be a peaceable glade bordering a small village was already occupied. Seeing as the boy was consumed in his gardening, she supposed it wouldn’t be a bad idea to give him some space.

“You mind if I rest here for a bit? I’ve been traveling for miles and need a breather.”

            His mouth quirks in a small smile, taking the joke at face value even if he doesn’t completely understand it. He stands from his dirt patch and gives a half nod, half-shrug by way of consent. A cursory glance -not quite subtle- tells him less than he would like.

              She seems to be well-worn in herself, comfortable and confident even in remote, uninhabited terrain. The only thing she seems wary of is... well, him. The fury, the blanketed rage-- is not so, as he had first thought, but a thrumming, churning power, steady and strong and dangerous, so very dangerous.

              Especially dangerous was the career and training only such power could be cultivated from. Yet, she didn’t appear to be a shinobi. Hisato tips his head, considering her.

                even through the blood, his rapidly paling face strikes her as familiar. she’s already on her knees, gloves tugged off and green engulfing deft hands before it dawns upon her that she knows this man. not personally, no; she doesn’t even know his name. but she’s seen him before — a stranger who appeared out of nowhere, consistently for an entire week, near the children’s clinic she had set up with Ino. 

                 built beside a small but lovely park, sakura could enjoy the scenery from her third-storey office window. that’s how she spotted him, surrounded by an increasing number of children and elderly with each passing day. why? she doesn’t know, but they always seemed to leave his company looking a little lighter, a little less burdened. once, she might’ve seen him coaxing a resident squirrel down from its perch with little to no effort for a trio of delighted children. 

                 that was months ago. ever since, she’s always wondered where the odd man with a penchant for making people smile went. now she knows. 

               “hey — stay with me! you’re going to be okay.”

                and so she puts her hands to his bleeding body and begins to heal.

        blurred features swim against the backdrop of sky, the vague impression of a face framed in a swath of pink. a slight pang of familiarity is attached to the color, but only in passing. what’s more concerning is—   well, the concern between knitted brows and tense words.

        he wants to answer, but blood is slick in his throat and his diaphragm seizes mid-breath. his lungs feel wet, like he’s underwater, drowning inside of himself, wrong—

        —and then there’s relief, bathing his ribs and leaving an acerbic, stringent smell in his nose. he still can’t pull in a breath, but he blinks sluggishly as the face above him gains the suggestion of eyes and a nose; a mouth twisted in concentration. it’s not immediate, but soon there’s air in his chest.

        above all things, he can’t understand why this woman-  this shinobi-  has helped him. with a wet cough, he pushes an arm beneath himself to sit up, and rasps;

                         “ did y—   are you...  healing me? ”

+  fascinated with paperclips

+  he has a pocketful of them at all times. don’t let him near your office supplies, he’ll steal ALL of them

+  will only eat most root vegetables raw.

+  raw potatoes. raw turnips. raw radishes. it’s the absolute worst, but he just Doesn’t Understand cooked vegetables.
