hey there everybody,
the guys and i made it home... and we get to hang here for a few days before our show at the ryman. i've been a lazy bum all day. i think hanging with the swellers got me sick. they must've put swine flu in my tea, again. how rude. anyways, it should be a nice little break. halloween is so soon! i'm still not too sure of what i'm going to do. i just want to scare kids, you know? that's not too much to want.
i can't stop listening to Jawbreaker tonight. do you know em? if you don't, you should. here's some trivia for you... my favorite album of theirs, "Dear You" was produced by the same guy who produced our new record. yes, you guessed it, Rob Cavallo. not only has he done nearly every Green Day album but he also produced this gem. the dude is unstoppable. "Dear You" is almost 15 years old... it came out in 1995!!! still holds up, too. every time i put this record on, it's the only one i listen to for the rest of the day. every single time. if you check it out, i hope you enjoy it as much as i do. if not... well, i'll put the swine flu in YOUR tea. that would never happen. i don't know where you keep your tea cups.
btw, i caught up on Dexter tonight. i can't believe it!!!
make sure not to spoil it for anyone in the replies but seriously, can you believe it!?

bunk life

what humbles you? whether it's something that sort of breaks you down or really builds you up?
i guess i'll start.
loss of security humbles me... when i feel like the whole world is watching but no one knows me. i hate knowing that everyone can look but it's from such a distance that they get to make up their own captions and sort of say who i am on their own terms and in their own time. i'm simple. not hard to amuse... i like to laugh a lot. i like dirty jokes! and i like working my ass off. what i'm most passionate about doing puts me in a position to be judged on a daily basis and from a long way off. it's humbling because i have can't possibly have any control over that. on the other hand, i can lose my voice and walk off stage pissed at myself and then have the people in the crowd sing TO ME, instead of booing. that was an encore that i will never ever forget.
for the past couple of days, i've been thinking a lot about my life. the things i have. the things i've lost. i've never felt so empty and full at the same time. of everything that i've gained through joining a band and leaving home the thing i'm most grateful for is the constant humility. i'm humbled by the opportunities that we're given. by trials that i face alone. the people who love me the most, who hate me the most. the fact that i'm still figuring out the difference between some of those people. there couldn't be a better way to know exactly where you stand than to fall flat on your face. it's the moments where i know i don't have any of the right answers that make me excited to have what i do. a few real friends, a family that would do anything for me, music, being in love, getting to see the world... i could never take any of it for granted cause i don't deserve to have it so easy.
okay so again, what humbles you? the good and the bad.

everyone is just hanging out and we're going to Helsinki in an hour or so.
it's been a good trip so far... i just can't wait to get to a bed. definitely going to catch a lot of z's. i don't mean Zac's. i mean sleep.
i listened to The Cardigans on the way here and had "You're The Storm" on repeat for quite a while. i enjoy love songs... though, there aren't many that i actually understand. that one, i do. i like that she wants someone to claim her so much. "IF YOU WANT ME I'M YOUR COUNTRY" and what i like most is that she realizes she'd do whatever it takes and that this love could be a risk. "ALL THIS PEACE HAS BEEN DECEIVING". most of the love songs that i really like have a hint of sadness mixed up in them. which to me, makes perfect sense because i don't really believe that love can be even half way understood unless you've felt some degree of what is opposite of love. or if you've had your heart mistreated. so, the contrast is drastic and you see love at it's brightest and fullest potential. is it even cool to talk about love like this anymore? i mean, it feels kind of important to me. it's not like i'm saying anything that's never been heard before... but i guess it's all worth restating in a round-a-bout sorta way. it takes a lot of faith to give love... and even more faith to let yourself be loved. such a risk that seems so worth it. but what do i know, i'm only 20, right?

I love this tour and I love my friends. Only 10 more shows to go... so far, they've been some of the most exciting shows we've ever played. 5... 6 years in? I love it.
Can't lie... I can't wait to spend the holidays with my family. I'm really anxious to see what's coming next. After this year. After we spend a month at home... meeting the yearly quota of "normal" time. I don't even care to be off the job anymore. I enjoy the work. As if I can even be called work. I like the distraction. Otherwise I find all this extra time to kill, sitting around on my ass watching the internet. The internet is boring.
I want to get out there and do something. Every day. Even if it's sleeping in. Anything except for sitting in front of a 13" screen. Some people have 17" screens now... hooray for them? So, if you're sitting there reading me. Stop. I'm boring. Go check out something fun.

so, i have thought long and hard about it.
i was going to stop posting here. i was trying to think about where i could move it to, or if i should even continue at all to try and communicate directly like this with y'all. it isn't that i don't enjoy it or that i think something like this is so great that it should be considered a reward... it's not... but it's just that this place, our bloggy community, had become something that i hoped it wouldn't.
not sure if you will agree or disagree but i feel like "paramoremusic" is on the up and up. not really sure where we are at with "paramoreband" but i guess we shall see in time. i'm going to keep posting here. i'm not going to reply to negative comments, so as not to encourage any more stupid people to come in and get some sort of rise out of me... and if i do my part then i hope you all will do your part to encourage more positivity around this place.
the thing that i hope everyone takes away from this direct line we have to you guys is the fact that just because we may have a song on the radio, or sold "this many" records and done "this many" things... we are just the same as we've always been. sure, we've changed. BUT. we are the same 5 people who started the band in 2004. we don't believe any hype that may be written about us... and we all realize that in one single day it could all be gone. what matters is this. the connection. that's what outlives any good write up... it outweighs the number of records sold... it means the most. and that's why i can't let any negative hype that is created right here push me away from keeping this thing going.
so again, do your part and i'll do mine. the guys (if they decide to come in and post haha) will do theirs.

Thank you guys so much for getting us that People's Choice award. There's only one way that we would be nominated and recognized among all those other nominees and that's Y'ALL! So, seriously, thank you.
I had a good time hanging out, watching the show... dressing up! PS, don't feel bad about any "worst dressed" lists, we all know that's just me. Anyways, I'm much more saddened by the fact that the cast of Dexter didn't attend. Oh well. I'll go cry about it somewhere else, I guess.
So, this year is about to really get started. We got a video to make, merch to create, shows to put together and a bunch of touring to do! If I have to sit around at home (or in LA, whichever) any longer I might pull my hair out. After a couple weeks of being off, I just start to feel useless. Not in a sad, pathetic, sort of way more like a Tin Man... or maybe a Scarecrow... kind of way. I keep trying to find things to do to get prepared for what all is next. I guess the only thing that I won't have to do is re-dye my hair. Already took care of that one. In fact, I didn't waste anytime doing away with the blonde. The morning after we all flew in from London I went straight to Brian (O'Connor - if you're interested). We died my hair with the pure blood of a real live red-haired angel... aka the guitarist (Wes- if you're interested) of one of my favorite local bands, Murdock. So this red is here to stay. That is, until I get bored again.
Wow. Did I really just blog about my hair? I'm as bad as every first few sentences of every write-up we've ever had.
Hmmm... well, things to do:
- fix my email for the mobile stream on paramore.net
- buy a pair of new jeans
- make some clothes for tour (cause it's about time that I do that, i think)
- never use capital letters in a post ever again
- figure out who we are touring with in the US, this summer
- make up another "to-do" list.
- get rid of my iPhone. (apparently, once you go blackberry, you never go backberry... someone shoot me for that dad joke)
- see that Dr. Parnassus movie

so i think i got my phone all sorted out for the mobile stream on paramore.net
hopefully, now there will be all kinda updates happening. between that, this, and twitter... not to mention, more video stuff when we get back out on the road.
also wanted to say for the record that "the only exception" will probably be the next single everywhere. sure, it may be exclusive in another country for a while but i think it will make it's way over here too. it would be a chance for us to do something different. we've never put out a song that wasn't fast or quirky or upbeat and fun. there are other sides to the band too... you guys know that better than the rest of the world... and to see how people react to the side of us that isn't sorta wild would be fun for us. to be honest, i'm nervous as to how it could go! i like the idea of having to take a leap instead of going with an obvious style of a song... but sure, it's a risk. anyways, i would like to ask you that even if you aren't completely sold on the idea you would at least pretend to support us in it. it's not like this is the last song we'll be releasing anyways! there will be plenty more from brand new eyes.
well, i'm sick still. none of the afore mentioned "to-do's" have been done, really. just a whole lot of sitting around and taking tamiflu. i'm such a disease. but tonight is spaghetti night! so i gotta prepare the angel hair pasta and make meatballs. (look at me actually learning to cook). and you thought it would never happen!

my bff, Hannah and i have set out on a long and treacherous journey across the southern region... in hopes of shaking the hands and kissing the babies of just about every radio personality unfortunate enough to find themselves in our presence. just kidding, we're actually a real treat to hang with. and that first sentence was entirely too long.
tomorrow i'm gonna go and hang with Kidd Kraddick in Dallas. i mean, i'll try to be all there but let's be honest, i'm completely useless before noon! then we'll be off to Florida. it's really no big thing, we're just taking over the airwaves one southern town at a time. i'll keep you all posted this week as we're trucking along. FueledbyAdam is going to set up a mobile stream for Hannah to send in some random photos from our trip. who knows if she'll be any good at it... hahah.
in other news, Crime In Stereo put up a new song "Drugwolf" on their myspace. check it out. i love em.
and in other news that's not related to the first bit of news, i'm going to have this chamomile/lavender tea and hit the hay.

hey guys,
I hope everyones doing well! I am enjoying some time off here in franklin and definitely looking forward to the superbowl! Go Saints! Hehe. I've got some news to share with you guys so here it goes..
As some of you already know, I am engaged! So, as weird as it is to stay behind, I need to take some time off to plan the wedding and everything. Because of that I will not be joining the guys on the pacific rim tour coming up. I feel really blessed to be able to take this time off, especially in the midst of this record cycle. The band has been extremely supportive and gracious to me about all of this which has made it a lot easier. Justin York, Taylor's brother, will be filling in for me as a favor. He's an awesome dude, you all will love him. Trust me, I know it's strange having someone "fill in" for me. I dont like it anymore than you guys do, but this is the most important thing in the world to me and I trust you all will understand. The Lord has blessed me with the most amazing woman and for that I am eternally grateful. I can't tell you guys how excited I am to get married! The thought of it blows my mind every day!
I will be back soon! Don't worry! :) I love you guys. Thank you so much for all of your support and love. What you guys do for me and the band is out of this world. No one has fans like us. I shall see you all very soon.

what do i have left that the world can still take?
sometimes you get run down. sometimes life throws dirt in your eyes and it stings and you can't see for a few minutes. even after you get it out your eyes are all red and your vision is shitty... but eventually, whether through tears or maybe just time... you start to see even clearer than before. life is not always good. which is why music exists. why i believe God exists. and why there's always a pint of coconut milk ice cream in my freezer.
i don't care if the world or anyone in it tries to drag me down. because i know that in the end, they will be the ones left tired from the struggle to hold me back. it hurts more to see people i care about being beat up mentally, emotionally... but again, in the end, i don't hang around people that can be beaten so easily. my friends, family, our band, and OUR FANS, are all good people. with strong hearts.
and even though today, i might feel a little run over and feel heavy hearted for a few people that i love... there is a promise that tomorrow i will be a stronger, more patient and better refined person. we are to be brought through the fire, not left in it.
and you know what?
to anyone that ever told you that you're no good... they're no better.

so, i was on the plane today. well, we all were. (we're in singapore now!). and being that we were sitting in business class, there were a lot of business men just hanging out, shipping champagne and laughing at things that i don't really understand. so, this business man is hanging with his other business friend and they're wearing the exact same outfit... only business man #2 is wearing his grey slacks so tight and high on his waist that his balls are like suffocating. and i can see this happening. like his pants are not leaving any room for my imagination. not that i would've wanted to imagine it in the first place. the worst part is that he is just standing right there, in my direct eyeline and i can't. stop. looking. it was a train wreck of manly horror.
maybe i should've just said something. honestly, i kinda felt like i had a right to. what a sight it was, you guys. i wish you all could've been there.
in other news... haha... this tour has honestly done a million wonders for me. being in all these places and meeting people who live half a world (literally) away from where we're from. it's such a blessing to play these shows and see all of you out here.
japan was incredible. from the shows, to the dinners and shopping trips, the sight seeing. we were able to work with our original promoter - from the first trip we ever took over there. so the whole thing just felt like one big party.
being able to play soundwave festival for the first time could not have been any better. our sideshows ruled. youmeatsix are always a blast to hang with... and the festivals were. massive. thanks to everyone who stood under the blistering sun all day to hang with us. i thought i would die on stage in perth. we made it though. honestly, i still don't get how zac puts on those shows and makes it all the way through playing as hard as he does. metal as hell, y'all.
i have to say, new zealand just about takes the cake. we had never been there, though, so maybe that's what it is. our friend rowan, from the jury & the saints, took us around to all of his favorite spots and some of us even stayed over at his place to watch movies and climb trees. you guys, i climbed the highest tree ever... i would show you the pics but i went swimming in the ocean with my blackberry - which has since died - and that's where all the photo proof is.
(SIDE NOTE: Anne Hathaway is absolutely stunning, kill me.)
and now, here we are in Singapore for the first time! we were greeted by some crazy fans at the airport. sometimes it makes me so sad when we can't stay and hang. if we had a van and were in charge of driving it.. we'd make our own schedule. unfortunately, we get driven all over the place by folks that actually know where they're going in all these cities. so they make the rules. hahah, it's probably a good idea. we used to get lost every day touring in our van. anyways, i can't wait to just be on stage tomorrow and see how these shows are gonna go down. bet it will be unbelievable.
i gotta run. think i'm gonna bug jeremy.

Morning world!
Hey guys, it's been a ridiculous amount of time since I've popped in here.
The tumblr journal is going well... and I've found it really easy to update with pictures and mp3's and all the random stuff I'm not computer savvy enough to post here on LJ. Anyways, what am I using capitalization for?
so... the weather has been nuts here in franklin. in a week, i've seen just about all my friends and partied hard (if coca-cola and buttloads of ice cream really qualify for a party). i've been to a freaking wedding! (unbelievable!) and actually cleaned out miss anne's interior (miss anne is my car, ya big perv). it's been nuts. non stop. i've even been writing a lot. and now, i think i need to slow myself down. any time we're off tour, my time is divided between two things: 1) go nuts and eat everything and don't take care of myself cause i don't have to work. 2) recoup from being nuts. start eating healthy again, get sleep, don't talk as much... boring stuff. if i wasn't hoarse, i wouldn't be starting part 2 for at least another 3 or 4 days. but i had sweet cece's frozen yogurt 5 times in the past 4 days and talked until i can't talk anymore and i think it's time to grow up just a smidgen. the word smidgen is cringe-worthy. had to.
you know when you leave a hair band on your wrist and when you take it off it hurts?
so, keep an eye out for a couple pics from the wedding. (i didn't take many, mostly cause i forgot. wompwomp). some pics from my time at home... and as soon as we start rehearsal... which i think is like a week from now... i'm going to post a "menu" of our new merch items. all of this will be on the tumblr blog so i can easily organize all the attachments. the new merch is awesome. we're pulling designs from many of our friends and quite honestly, it's the best and most cohesive line of merch we've had in a long time. i'm proud of it, for sure.
and while i'm getting started about this next tour. let's discuss.
i'm pretty sure you've heard of Relient K. (if you haven't, don't tell anyone and run - don't walk - to their myspace). those dudes are awesome. and i am a long time fan of their records. i remember someone giving me "Two Lefts Don't Make A Right... But Three Do". and singing songs about chapped lips and chapped stick on my way home from school.
and opening the shows for the tour is a band called fun. their name couldn't be a better summary of what you are going to experience when they take the stage. their debut record "aim & ignite" is just ridiculously good. if you like incredible vocals and creative arrangements... or the sound of gods making love... then you will like them.
good music happening this year. everywhere! and a lot of good music on tour with us. we're a very very lucky band to have so many talented friends to share the stage with. i noticed a post on the LJ community asking for new music suggestions and a lot of you suggested some seriously good music. it feels like we're all growing up together and discovering (or re-discovering) a lot of music that maybe we wouldn't have been into 5 years ago when all of this started. so i got to thinking... how could we discover more music together? apparently, at old hardcore and punk shows, there would be a bucket at the door where kids could drop mix tapes in and take one out. it was a way to pass music along cheaply and easily. not to mention, a great way to strengthen your scene. think about all the local bands in your town that you want people to hear or your favorite song that you always always have to put on all your mix cd's. would you guys want to do this at our shows? i figure, the next tour is super short. all of 14 shows. it would be an amazing way to test run this whole thing. i've talked to fueledbyadam and johnny minardi about it before but it's been a good year since that conversation happened. i wanted to bring it back to you guys and figure out if you're into it or not.
here's how it might work: we'd put a box or bucket at the merch table with Aaron Holmes (merch man of the stars)... and you'd bring either a tape, a CD, or a USB/memory stick thingy, with all your favorite songs on it. let's say about 10 songs, to keep it simple. you drop one in at the beginning of the night... and if you wish to, at the end of the night you take one out on your way out the door. i think it could be awesome. maybe we'll even put our own mixes in the box every now and then. the point is to share music that YOU love. we don't get enough PHYSICAL swapping of music anymore. it's always online. "here's a link to this" or... "go to their myspace"... and now maybe we have a chance to relive something that we almost missed!

i'm also going to start doing band bio things on my tumblr for all the bands that come out on tour with us. so that people start getting a better idea of who they're seeing on stage. ooh! i could even try to get interviews with those bands and post em up. so many possibilities. here we go.
