How to Use Social Media Properly

Think before you click

This first one may be the most common and most used phrase that you may see about the do’s and don’ts of using social media, however, its purpose to remind us to be careful of what we post and share on different social media platforms will remain. Now let’s get to the point of this. We should ALWAYS keep in mind that whatever we share or post online will stay for as long as the internet lives. Which means that if you posted a rather sensitive remark online, make sure that you will take responsibility for what you said once people noticed and started questioning you for it. But to avoid that kind of scenario, always think first if what you will post is helpful, relevant, and will not offend anybody so you don't have to deal with anyone because of your mistake.

Educate, not hate

There are some social media users and influencers who post their strong opinions about a certain issue or race which causes conflicts and once it blows up, many other people will gather around and start hating on the person or a group of persons. Now, if you are aware that what the person said or did is wrong, choose to EDUCATE them instead of sending them death threats or hate posts that can affect them mentally and emotionally. We should remember that we cannot correct a mistake with another mistake, which means that if they did something wrong, then you should tell them in a calm manner that what they did is not right and they should reflect on their actions. If they are persistent and still continued their wrongdoings, then just let them be and do not pester them anymore with mean comments. Bashing them will not do you or them any good as it will not make them a better person if you continued to hate on them, and you would only be wasting your time in calling out a person who is close minded.

Do not post confidential information of others ESPECIALLY yours

This third one is VERY important as what we’re talking about right now is ours and other individual’s privacy. Posting too much information about yourself online is very risky as there are many hackers and imposters online that can steal and use your personal information for their own desires. It can also have a negative effect on you if there are people with bad intentions who took an interest in you and started blackmailing you with the information you just spread for all the internet users to see. Other than not posting your information, you also do not have the right to spread another person's private information as that would be against their right and would be very disrespectful. If you got your hands on some confidential information of someone, learn how to stay silent and keep things to yourself. If you happen to have a grudge against that person, just remember that once you do something to ruin their reputation, karma will be your biggest enemy. Be honest, you wouldn't want something horrible to happen to you because of your irresponsibility right?

Spread awareness, not false news

False news are EVERYWHERE. It is actually impossible to give an immediate solution to this problem as there are millions of people who are using various social media platforms all over the world. However, we can prevent a bigger spread of misleading information by confirming if it is true before sharing. It only takes a few clicks to find out if a certain post is real or not, it doesn't hurt to spend only a few seconds or a minute to do that, am I right? Other than seeing other people's posts, we should also be responsible and not be the one to start the spread of false news as it will not gain you or other people anything. You already wasted your time on something irrelevant, and you didn't contribute anything good to the already complicated online community.

Be wary of the people you meet online

This is one of the biggest issues in social media right now. Many people are being used, scammed, hurt or even worse, k*lled by the person that they met online because who they think is trustworthy, is actually a person with bad intentions. We should keep in mind that anyone can be anything online. Murderers, scammers, sexual predators and many other kinds of bad people are lurking everywhere in various social media platforms and they can pretend to be a nice and trustworthy person even though they are not. If you happen to get into a conversation or get close with someone online because you have the same interests, make sure that you will not trust them fully and tell or share to them any sensitive information about yourself. You only get to talk to them through a screen, you don't truly know what kind of person they are in real life. It also doesn't matter if that person is the same gender or age as you, they're still a stranger and it would be better to be safe than sorry.

Good day! My name is Patricia Mae Garcia and I am 16 turning 17 this November. My zodiac sign is Scorpio, I love spending time with myself but I also like bonding with my family and friends.

I am the eldest daughter in our family with a precious little sister named Meghan (she’s 1 year old now) with my mom, stepdad, grandmother and aunt.
