BARBET SCHROEDER DANS L’ANTRE DU MAL

C’est une obsession qui le travaille depuis des décennies : s’approcher au plus près des personnalités les plus inquiétantes pour en comprendre les mécanismes de domination, mais également de séduction. Barbet Schroeder l’avoue, il est fasciné par les origines du mal et son investigation se fait caméra au poing. Sa « trilogie du mal » a démarré en 1974 avec le documentaire GENERAL IDI AMIN DADA : AUTOPORTRAIT, puis en 2007 avec L’AVOCAT DE LA TERREUR, sur le très polémique Jacques Vergès. Elle vient de s’achever avec LE VENERABLE W., portrait du moine birman Ashin Wirathu qui appelle régulièrement à l’extermination des musulmans dans son pays. Retour sur une œuvre aussi captivante que troublante à l’occasion de la rétrospective Schroeder au Centre Pompidou.

On la connaissait – et on l’aimait – comme comédienne, depuis ce césar du Meilleur espoir féminin obtenu en 2001 pour Chaos, de Coline Serreau : Rachida Brakni passe aujourd’hui derrière la caméra avec « De sas en sas », un premier long métrage intense et claustrophobique dans lequel elle raconte l’interminable journée de plusieurs femmes venues visiter des proches en prison. Imprévisible dans ses goûts comme dans ses choix de carrière, l’actrice-réalisatrice nous dévoile 3 de ses films fétiches.

Patrick Zachmann "So long, China"

Un sujet réalisé par Pamela Pianezza pour l’émission Viva Cinéma saison 6, émission 34.

De 1982 à 2016, Patrick Zachmann, membre de la cultissime agence Magnum, a photographié la Chine.

Dans un noir et blanc granuleux, puis dans des couleurs éclatantes, il a capté les grandes mutations d’un pays fascinant, avec, pour fil rouge, le cinéma chinois, ses studios, ses réalisateurs et ses stars, mais également ses atmosphères si singulières.

30 ans d’enquête photographique retracée dans un livre dense et magnifique, SO LONG CHINA, publié aux éditions Xavier Barral.

Pour Viva Cinéma ! Patrick Zachmann a accepté de replonger dans ses souvenirs…

don't know if it's because i curated a section called "nordic boys" for the last Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur (or maybe just because my reputation as an obsessive person especially obsessed with nordic cinema & literature is done) but ARTE asked me to analyze Thomas Vinterberg's first short THE BOY WHO WALKED BACKWARDS for Court-circuit (their super cool show dedicated to short films).

of course, it was more than tempting to shoot it in la Maison du Danemark's amaaaaazing loft with a view.
