Hey everyone! Steven here. This photo was taken at a soirée hosted by @/goldhouseco celebrating significant strides in the Asian American community. It’s always been my intent as a content creator to represent Asians and share untold stories thar help people feel a little less alone. I’ve been blessed to not only have a career producing content behind-the-camera, but also getting to share my unique perspective in front of it. It’s why I love making food content - food is a natural vehicle to talking about culture. ⁣⁣

What I didn’t realize going into this profession is how much of an impact the Asian American community would have on me. Being 100% serious, Watcher would not exist if not for our Asian American peers paving the way and investing in us. @/goldhouseco was a significant event because it inspired us to keep pushing forward and it’s also where we met a lot of people who have mentored us, connected us, and invested in us. I’m so grateful for you all!⁣⁣

That being said - I am excited to make series on Watcher that represent all types of people and backgrounds. And so glad to be building a company with these two friends who believe in that as well. -Steven

Interviewer: So you've announced that you're doing your own streaming platform correct? What's going to change really you know? Ryan: For Ghost Files, I mean it's kind of the thing that's going to allow us to take bigger swings like we did this season, like going international, upgrading some of our kit, and just overall making the show better and more sustainable behind the scenes 'cuz it's a really hard show to make. And then as far as like other series it's going to allow us to make those a little bit better but also allow us to make new series in general, and also bring on new faces to the to the channel that we haven't previously been able to. YouTube is like a little bit of a harder place sometimes for that kind of content to survive…sometimes if something isn't getting the proper amount of views that it would need it wouldn't survive perhaps in that environment but on a different environment, perhaps our own platform, then maybe it will have a better chance and now that we have both it'll allow us to, I guess, really give everything a try. But really more than anything it's just about improving things across the board and then taking bigger risks on our shows.

you know what i'm gonna get sappy for a second bear with me

there are a lot of posts and memes for writers about how hard writing is and how annoying it can be and how dispiriting it can feel when we don't make progress the way we'd like to. and those are true, and relatable, and funny! i've been there!

but maybe it doesn't get said enough in the other direction, so I'm gonna say it: I love writing. i love the process of putting phrases together and testing them for cadence and flow; i love knowing that there is a word for exactly the thing I want to convey, even if I just can't think of it right now, and going onto a thesaurus and being like there she is, that's the one!

but more than anything, I love the ritual of constantly asking myself "okay, and then what happens?" and feeling the same sense of delighted surprise every single time when somehow, a part of me I wasn't consciously aware of knows the answer. that experience, where my brain provides me solutions I didn't know it was working on, feels like a miracle every time. and getting into a productivity groove where I keep knowing the answers is one of the best feelings on the planet.

and sure, sometimes I don't know the answer, and it's hard and unsatisfying and see above about how easy it is to joke about how writing's the pits, but... that just makes it even more special when I'm firing on all cylinders, you know?
