and for a moment what you always hoped was true finally is: loneliness has forgotten your address, french toast browning on the stovetop, the sound of everyone you love clear as the sun giggling through the window, not even a doorknob between you.

"Happiness is in the quiet, ordinary things. A table, a chair, a book with a paper-knife stuck between the pages. And the petal falling from the rose, and the light flickering as we sit silent."

every time i'm sad that something didn't work out a certain way, i think of you. how you just came into my life, somehow you chose the life where you meet me, and changed my life forever - in the best possible way. and it reminds me - how i was never looking for you, but you just entered my life out of nowhere, and now you're my safe place. and how i'm so grateful for that.

i'm so thankful for my friends who never made me regret opening up my heart, who never hurt me, who always made me feel safe. you made me realize that loving can be safe, unconditional, and can also lead to finding home.
among everyone who comes and goes, they'll stay, and i promise you, you'll find them.

I can count my friends on my fingers and one would maybe feel sad thinking - How? Isn't it great to have tons of friends, almost like you're in a party when you're all together? That's the thing. Parties make you feel lost, unseen even. But when I'm with just these three people, I give them all of me. No part of me will ever run out of love when it comes to them. And they give me all of them. And when we're all 90, and old, and grey, do we remember everyone we met at a party? No. Exactly. Millions of people might see you, but only a handful can see through your smile and your eyes, and love you for you.

I love when people tell me stories of themselves from when they were a kid. Like yes i love the kid you. The kid you and kid me would have been such good friends. We would have shared our bouncy rubber ball collection and climbed trees. We would have laughed at crows and made stone masterpieces. We would have saved up 5 coins to get lollipops together. I wish I met you earlier.

grabbing the hands of people i love so i can be fully honest. so i can open my heart up. so i can tell them, “i am so scared, all the time. fear freezes me. but loving you has helped me thaw, and i am still scared but i’m braver because of it. i wouldn’t have met this version of me without you. wherever i go now i will carry you with me. i love you. thank you for all of it. thank you for loving me in a way that means i don’t have to put on all my armor.”

Sometimes you meet someone, and it's so clear that the two of you belong together on some level. As lovers, or as friends, or as family, or as something entirely different. You just work, whether you understand eachother or you're in love or you're partners in crime. You will meet many of these people throughout your life, out of nowhere, under the strangest circumstances, often times when you need them most, and they will help you feel alive. I don't know if that makes me believe in coincidence, or fate, or sheer blind luck, but it definitely makes me believe in something.

you know, when you feel blessed when it comes to best friends. you have the same ones standing by your side, since the time you first met them. and you feel so lucky because no amount of your paranoia can make you be afraid of jinxing it. that’s how much you trust them. that’s how strongly you believe that no matter what, these very few people in your life, are here to stay. everyone else will come and go. but they, they’re here to stay forever. and I’m so so grateful for them.

shaking six year old me by the shoulders YOU WERE RIGHT. YOU WERE RIGHT ABOUT LOVE AND ABOUT FAIRNESS AND ABOUT SHARING IS CARING. YOU WERE RIGHT. THE ADULTS DON’T KNOW ANY MORE ABOUT TRUTH THAN YOU DO. KEEP BELIEVING IN THE FAIRIES AT THE BOTTOM OF THE GARDEN. NOTHING IS “JUST THE WAY IT IS”. I AM SORRY THEY EVER CONVINCED YOU TO FEEL SHAME. YOU ARE REAL AND A PART OF THIS WORLD. YOU WERE RIGHT.
