no one tells you how much of life takes practice. not just writing, painting, running, singing, etc, but practicing how to make friends. how to make the right ones. getting practiced at how to be a good friend, a good sibling, a good person. practice identifying when people haven’t earned that. learning to recognize your right to rage and, eventually, how to offer mercy. so much of life is muscle memory, and i’ve begun to realize there are so many more parts of ourselves to flex and stretch and strengthen than those we’re taught in anatomy lessons

social media has really warped our perception of creativity and hobbies. Stop doing things to post them. Just write. Just journal. Just sketch. Just read. Just annotate. Just sing. Just crochet. Just do the thing you’re going to do with the assumption no one will ever see or know you did it. Stop performing. Just enjoy it.

Consider this your daily reminder that life is short and social media presences are a total joke, so do what makes you happy and stop giving into your anxiety. Message that mutual you’ve never talked to but think you’d get along well with. Post that half-finished fic you never got around to completing but are really proud of. Reblog that fanart that makes you smile. Create that AU. Put your ships in the silly little scenarios. Gush about your favorite characters without shame. Make yourself happy!

writing fanfic is like spending an entire day cooking 3 dozen cupcakes from scratch and then hand delivering them to your friends and then standing 10 ft away and anxiously chewing on your own fingernails as you watch them to see if they like it (please like it)
