I have only now arrived and you are already leaving.
The leg. I know. I’ll be able to sit on the ship, it will be fine. No - no, really… Maxim? I don’t know, probably sleeping. —But speaking in English is so much easier. Fine. Eu posso andar. Eu posso … embalar. Eu vou ficar bem… No, I did not tell her. I will see her soon enough.

I have heard much about you, as well, your King is quite fond of you... I will, and always have said that I am married to my country and my position and my people -- so perhaps you are not wrong.
I am, Your Highness, excuse my lack of formalities but I’ve heard so much about you I feel like we’ve already met. Your people respect you, no matter if you have someone by your side or not.

No, no thank you, Khari... I'm too tired to meet with anymore people... Will you just-- sit with me?
I don’t think there’s anyone else waiting for an audience, my Queen. Je, wewe kama mimi na kuuliza mtu yeyote hasa kukutana na wewe sasa?

Think not of it as an issue of gender, but an issue of independence. They think I need help with things I am capable of handling on my own. I'm offended.
You are... The Duke Gaspar. Yes?
I would offer to help but I’m quite sure you don’t need a man, Queen Syrena, and to be honest, I would probably not help at all.

How many times do I need to say this? I do not need a husband, nor do I need a Lord Protector. You are all simply getting in my way. Do not return until you have news of the southern warriors. If not, I want nothing to do with you. -- Enter, and speak.

I regret to inform the people of my country that our Lord Protector, Ezekiel, has been murdered by Southern countrymen, and thus it has been deemed unsafe for any of us to return to Songhai any time soon. I will be staying, residing in this court with you until further notice. My apologies for how things have turned out, I assure you that whomever has done this injustice will be murdered and hung up by their ankles. Thank you.

Would you not say that different is a bit of an understatement, shujaa? It is another world here; I almost forgot that life such as this existed. In my lands, there are three things that can make a man important. The amount he owns but only by his own work, his closeness to their gods, and his strength in battle. The bravery it requires to stand in the lines of war and hold your head high is immense, and it should not be overlooked. That is why they are offered heavy sums for their sacrifice -- though most of them deny it. My people are family, they give and take only what they need for fear of stealing from one another. So, mtu mwema, I cannot say I understand most of the customs here at all. The concept of being a "means to an end" is beyond me.
It’s…. Different up here. I’m respected now… But I joined the army at sixteen to fight the Moors. I was a footslogger, one of the faceless thousands in the King’s army. I guess it all depends, for us, on the commander you get. With my army, I treated every man as though he were a son of mine. But with some, especially nobles… Soldiers are little more than a means to an end for their glory. Thankfully, those don’t last long, they typically get themselves killed… By the enemy or by their own men.

Perhaps 'tis the reaction he enjoys most. Like a little brother irritating the elder.
I do not know if my opinion is the best to ask for. For to me, and my people, they do many things that are extremely odd, not only the food... In my country, warriors are some of the most respected and well treated people in the entire land. So I am not sure what you mean by that... Are you not extremely wealthy, with political influence? Is your opinion not to be respected? I do not remember much, but I always thought that soldiers were... important.
You sure about that? Right now he seems content in simply driving me mad.
No, don’t look at me like that, you know what you did. Anyway, I hope your stay here is enjoyable, majestia. It may take a while to get used to the food though… Northern Europeans don’t know how to cook in my opinion, but then again, I’m just a soldier. What do I know?

Oh. Well, my congrats are extended to you for your new marriage. He is a good man? Strong? Does good work? -- Malkia... Queen. Queen Margaret, Malkia Margaret. I am Mtawala Syrena, or Malkia Syrena... Ruler or Queen or Empress. It varies... Ask yourself, Margaret, do you honestly believe my father to be a faithful man? Besides, multiple wives is not uncommon in my country. Though I frown upon it, 'tis not uncommon.
Please, Rena— I’ve been married for no more than a month and a half. If I’d already had any children, well… It could become quite a messy situation. And you’re going to have to be my teacher now, with your new language— What does Malkia mean? — Half-siblings? I thought it was only ye and Randolph?

I have never been very good with... pets. Even when I was practically a Scot, I wasn't... The same goes for children. I'm fairly certain your God simply forgot to implement the motherly instinct in me.
He is quite charming, I assure you. You can tell that he likes you.
Heh, you actually got him to calm down… Whatever it was you said. You have my thanks Majestia.
I promise I’ll make sure he doesn’t barrel into you anymore.

I am not keen on the concept of marriage, and I have never been one to expect my own children. I could never take care of another being. There are far bigger things to worry of... Which leads me to ask, have you bore a prince or princess, Malkia? -- Half-brother. Ah. I have half-siblings.
An aversion to one another? And why would that be? …Not servants, a duke. Well, he has siblings that are servants too— ‘Tis another long and complicated story. But, Christoff’s father, Francisco, is Andres’ half-brother. I don’t know if he was around while ye were here… He had a habit of leaving for long periods of time without notifying anyone.
