As someone who does have a few ships in the HQ fandom, it annoys me as well that people think romantic love is superior and flat out ignore that platonic love can be just as beautiful and that some friendships can last even to adulthood. If people took off their shipping glasses for once, they can see an amazing show where the guys are one big giant found family.

ngl there’s something about the shipping in the Haikyuu fandom that kinda irks me. I feel like the fandom ships a lot of the boys together very insistently (even pairs that don’t really make sense) - and like, I get it because a) there are very, very few girls, and b) queer representation is extremely important and not as common as it should be (and, before we jump to conclusions, I’m very much for queer representation and am queer myself)

That said, the shipping bugs me a bit because Haikyuu is one of the rare shows that depicts a LOT of healthy, supportive male friendships that are still very realistic for the age group of the characters. The boys are silly and sometimes kinda dumb, and they fight and get mad at each other, but at the end of the day they care a lot about their teammates and other guy friends - we even get examples of straight up affection, which is also rare. And I think that’s super, super valuable. So the shipping sometimes bothers me because I feel like it kinda cheapens the friendships by inserting additional motives that aren’t there. And like, if we’re being realistic to real life, statistically some of the boys are probably gay and some bi/pan. But like slipping in this assumption that any kind of affection between two guys is a sign of romantic or sexual attraction kind of feeds into toxic masculinity because it covertly discourages that affection if it isn’t meant to be romantic or sexual.

Does that make sense??? Y’all know what I’m talking about????

I am being so fucking serious when I say I don’t understand why the Watcher boys put out the “Update” (apology) video the other day

they were SO clear about their appreciation for their fans and supporters in the original announcement. They were SO clear about their reasoning. The platform is a reasonable (and low) price. like of course not EVERYONE would be able to afford it - that’s literally impossible (unless it were free, but that’s obviously not an option bc this is their whole fucking source of income)

tf is wrong with y’all???? Why are fans of these kinds of creators so resistant and aggressive - to the point of being outright mean - to change?? Creators change!! Circumstances change!! Things are supposed to change!! It’s straight up unsustainable to not seek out new opportunities and strategies - not just in business, but in life

They made their choice and even if some people aren’t into the change, it doesn’t give anyone the right to be so fucking hostile about it that they get pushed into apologizing for making an extremely reasonable and understandable move. Being myopic about a creator’s situation and goals ain’t it.
