"mee-et" - where mee rhymes with see or tree, and et rhymes with pet or bet.
Just checking.... We all pronounce Miette like My-TAY in our heads, right?

Is your friend a lawyer, though? Because if he is, he's going to spend the trip cooped up in some room missing out on all the cool sights. I went to San Francisco last month and everyone was like "omg, you probably had the best time." I sat in a windowless room trying not to lose my mind until it was time to come home. It was not, in fact, a "best time." Our jobs just be like that.
So like - as long as your friend isn't a lawyer, he's going to have a great time. But. If he's a lawyer, he probably won't see much beyond his hotel room and some conference or meeting rooms.
y'all, my friend is going on a work trip next month. A train trip. Through mountains. living my dream this guy is. he has to leave his gf behind, and she loves trains, so he's living her dream as well, but STILL. He said he'll write super often, and I know he bout like 10 notebooks, and I'm excited to read about his adventures.

I love how in the Dracula Daily fandom, we don’t say that we are beginning once again on May 3rd.
Rather, we say “my dear friend Johnathan is preparing for his upcoming trip. I hope he has such a wonderful time and that he brings back some delicious recipes :)”
And I think that’s beautiful

I'm a lawyer.
I started as a scientist, didn't like it, didn't realize I could quit, and then finally realized I could quit after six years of education. It was my grand rebellion. I rebelled against my parents by quitting science grad school and going to law school.
And you might be thinking, "well, at least you can write patents and make those sweet sweet patent prosecution dollars."
I don't write patents. I tried. It's boring. I'm just a normal lawyer.
it’s crazy how i don’t know what any of you do for school/uni/work? who are you guys outside of tumblr? what do you work as??

We used to practice our evidence rules by watching old Law & Order and objecting. Of course, no one follows the Rules of Evidence on Law & Order, but it gives you lots of things to object to so you can prepare for whatever rando thing your professor's going to come up with for that essay on the exam.
(Also, I need to check out this show that is apparently aware that there are Rules for court).
I'm watching old clips of Law & Order on YouTube, and man, this show really is just defense attorneys and judges saying the most reasonable things ever and then cutting to the cops and DAs looking utterly scandalized.

Pride and Prejudice is the book I return to when life is overwhelming and I just cannot with things. (It's also the first book I'm planning to read to my rescue horse when I get to take her home). I always find such peace when reading it.
Northanger Abbey is the book that is still blowing my mind. It's so layered. She was a teenager when she wrote this. I just....damn, Jane. I liked your books but I didn't realize what a genius you were until I read this.
Yes, Pride and Prejudice is the best Jane Austen novel in terms of the actual writing, but Northanger Abbey is the best conceptually and aesthetically, I will die on this hill.

this is how I feel about my horse.
Tumblr media
For other people, it’s as if unicorns had always been there, just another type of horse, hanging around through all of History. But Crowley knows. And he’d missed them.
@seaskystone wrote this heartbreaking ficlet and it hurt so good, but I like happy endings and I will abuse the powers of the antichrist to give Crowley a baby unicorn to hold.

I'm getting things ready for my horse to move here and I just keep learning about all the ways horses can get hurt or get sick and I keep getting more fucking terrified. I just want what's best for her and I feel like I'm struggling to prevent all the possible bad things.
I do not know how parents do it.

I take Adderall. At least once a week, I forget to take my meds. I will figure it out when I go, "hmmm, my ADHD symptoms sure seem worse today. ... wait .... oh fuck I forgot to take my meds, didn't I?" I don't get any withdrawal symptoms. I don't physically feel different. I don't feel that driving need (and I know what the need feels like; I'm an alcoholic who has been sober about a decade).
All that happens when I take my meds is that my brain calms down. Previously, my brain was so all over the place that I could not work a normal work schedule. I would also find ways to blow up my life because I was chasing dopamine but didn't know that's what I was doing.
Taking my meds doesn't cause me to lose any of the positives from my ADHD brain - I'm still highly creative and really good at problem solving. It does, however, temper the negatives. I engage in a lot less risky behavior when I'm on my meds. My RSD is also a lot less disruptive.
Adderall feels like a miracle. I have broken down in ugly crying because I'm so thankful. I'm finally able to live a "normal" life.
I know this is going to be a silly question but I’m being put on adderall potentially soon and I have an anxiety about taking it because I watched that Netflix documentary about individuals who were put on it but had super adverse side effects or are unable to come off their high doses except by tapering off insanely slowly. It got me wondering about how likely it is for someone to become physically dependent on it or have such strong side effects that their physical health becomes a danger. The documentary was called “take your pills” or something along that line and since you take them I was wondering if the documentary was largely sensationalist or if these larger issues of taking adderall are due? Maybe some of your followers are familiar with what I’m talking about if you’re not?
Yeah that entire doc sounds like fearmongering lies. ANY medication can disagree with some people, there are allergies and sensitivities, but if you for-sure have ADHD then adderall will typically do nothing but calm down the topic-jumping of your brain, or just not really do anything at all. A tiny portion of people report that it made them feel shitty or "zombie-like." This is the first I've ever heard that anyone had to "taper off it." My ADHD symptoms themselves cause me to constantly forget doses. Sometimes I remember to take it every day for a month, then something throws me off and I forget for the whole next month. More often I'm just remembering to take it a few times a week, scattered randomly between days of forgetting. One reason it's so easy for me to forget is that I don't physically feel any different either way. There are no repercussions or "withdrawals" or anything at all noticeable if I miss any number of doses at any moment, and sometimes I only realize I missed a bunch because I'll evaluate how much I've gotten done, and when I've missed the adderall I find out I've wasted a whole lot more time lost in random thoughts or doomscrolling instead of finishing work. When I do take it I am someone it definitely works for because suddenly I achieve a reasonable if still imperfect level of productivity and focus. If those people interviewed were even real, they were one-in-a-million extremes, probably just outright allergic to something or other in the pill, or their entire diagnosis was wrong. Otherwise it's more likely the whole thing was scripted misinformation.

It takes work to curate your online spaces, but if you don't do it, corporations will do it for you using a couple harmful key principles. 1) Negative emotions hold your attention better than positive emotions. 2) Calm/contented people are less likely to spend money.
