A QUICK ANNOUNCEMENT!  i never thought i’d see the day, but i’m changing jei’s fc to kim bora ( sua ) of dreamcatcher for a multitude of reasons.  some things you need to know:
legal name is now kim bora, goes by sua.
birthday is still the same: 1995 sept 5 bc a ) she suits being a virgo and b ) i like the fact that she’s born a day after her bff yien
relationships will remain intact unless plotted otherwise.  she’s still dating hyun, still gave birth to heejin and hyunjin, etc
the only things that will change are physical characteristics.  literally that’s it.
last but least, follow me on sua’s new blog! i’m still setting things up like pages and the like, so bear with me while i do that.  the only thing i ask is that you mention the new blog when replying to threads so that i can find them easily ;u; this blog will officially be archived.  thanks for reading through!

changminxrk‌:
“ah, you think so, noona?”
it’s hard for him not to be deflated just in the slightest by her words, but his cheerful smile remains unwavering despite the fact that worry was reflected in his eyes. jei’s always been one to tell him what he needs to hear, and as someone whose opinions mattered to him more than he could ever explain to anyone, the fact that he seems to be going down the wrong path makes him feel a little uneasy.
perhaps he had been a little too ambitious.
but even then, he hears yuta’s words echoing in his head, feels the energy surging at his fingertips as almost a gentle reminder of his capabilities, and still stands strong. he’s not ignoring her advice or warnings at all, per say, but something tells him that it’s possible, because he’s done this before and he’s done more than this – since when has he become so doubtful?
( and then he remembers eunbyul’s voice over the line telling him it was okay to cry, the quiet voice telling him that it was okay if he went home last place – no one would be disappointed in him. ‘you will always be last place, ji changmin.’ )
“the trainer did say i might have some difficulties… but i did some, yes! the really basic ones i was taught a few days ago. except for the straw one, of course! i don’t have any on me.” he says, tapping his finger on his chin as he tries to recall the specific ones he did, “did my singing sound off key? besides the…cracks, aha…”
jei shrugs her shoulders slowly, crossing her arms in front of her.  " it's not that i think so.  my opinion doesn't really matter in this, does it? it's just what your body is telling you.  you're not going through puberty again, are you?" she raises a brow at him, tilting her head slightly to the side.  " if your voice is cracking, it means that you aren't ready yet.  your body is telling you these things as a warning not to overdo it.  do you think i don't listen if i start to feel pain in my leg?"
she crosses the room slowly, allowing her arms to fall to her sides with a gentle sigh.  " that's the difference.  just because you can do something, doesn't mean you can do it without taking the proper steps.  if i tried to dance without stretching, what do you think would happen?"  she can tell that changmin's bright energy dimmed a little at her words, but hopefully he understands now where she's coming from.  after all, it's not that she doesn't think he can.  it's just that she doesn't think he was fully prepared when he tried.
preparing yourself makes a real difference in the long run.  maybe changmin will see the results he wants if he does.
" maybe ... try to warm up a little more? and drink enough water.  you're trying to do a really high note, maybe you need to do the straw exercise after all.  the coaches might have it if you need it."  jei shrugs, looking up into his eyes.  " i think you can do it, changmin.  just don't hurt yourself in the process."

rkdongmin‌:
( trigger warnings : food talk, brief eating order mention )
he’s zoning out in the practice room, having eaten breakfast early and was just sitting there to wait for the schedules to officially start. he’s been sleeping better lately, since he had gotten the prescribed sleeping aid and it’s clear that it’s been helping him a lot. his skin problems have cleared up slightly and he’s been feeling more focused lately – the whole food thing was still something he was working on, considering full meals are still hard for him to digest but he’s been smarter about his snacks. and the food in the trc cafeteria was pretty good too – it certainly helped him try to keep his meal times more regulated.
when something suddenly drops into his lap, dongmin almost physically recoils from it, unsure of what had just happened and he stares down at the little bag in his lap, catching one of the oranges before it can fall out. it takes him a moment before he glances up at who it was that had given him … whatever this was.
“th-thank you?” he tries really hard to not sound like he’s terrified right now, glancing down at the bag in his lap and he picks it up to peer inside of it. oranges, different vitamins and red ginseng is what greets him when he looks inside and his eyes widen slightly – he’s unsure of what’s happening.
it's clear to her that he has no idea what's going on, and jei has to reign herself in.  otherwise, she'd roll her eyes so hard they probably fall out of their sockets.  to her, the situation is obvious: he was sick, she gave him things to make him better.  she wonders if there's anyone else who thought about it, but that's not her concern.  her concern is that he actually eats enough to recover.  honestly, she's not even sure he should be back to training already after needing to spend days in the hospital to recover from what ailed him.
honestly, dongmin is a fool if he doesn't know that people have a tendency to talk.  it'd be more surprising if the news that he collapsed and passed out hadn't reached her ears.
she sits easily on the floor, folding her legs beneath her.  hopefully he gets the idea that she's not planning on budging just yet  -  at this point, jei doesn't really care what he thinks of her.  scary or not, he shouldn't be collapsing in the middle of training because he's not taking care of himself right.  nodding her head at the bag full of oranges, jei lifts a brow as if expecting.  " eat it.  you have to take care of your body if you think you're going to be able to handle training."

she never thought she’d be spending an evening like this, but days at trc are surprising.
the system feels strange in her hands, but at the very least jei has gotten used to the controls and the buttons.  that’s about all that she’s managed to do with at least some coaching from the other boys, even though she’s not so sure any of them really know what they’re doing with a switch either.  not that it matters; this trip is about bonding, and what better way to bond than to .. play a game with people that you’ve become friends with.
right?
her lips purse as she looks around the small group gathered around and sitting around on some of the tables outside.  she wouldn’t openly admit it, but perhaps these three boys are the closest friends she’s made in trc since she first signed on.  it’s a little strange to think about, but life is funny that way.  days at trc are surprising that way.  (  but no sooner does she think it does jei completely wave it away  -  it’s far too sentimental for her tastes.  )  “ have you three chosen your characters yet? i’ve been waiting for five minutes.”

she really hopes that the boys show up soon because she’s tired of carrying four large bags when three of them aren’t even hers.  honestly, jei truly thinks that this so called “ glamping” trip is going to be a nightmare, but she figures she’ll get through it well enough if she spends all her time with the people she’s  (  somehow  )  managed to grow close to in her time in trc.
that still doesn’t mean she’s not annoyed that she has to carry all of these bags for them until they arrive on location for the bus.  she allows a frustrated sigh to escape her lips, pushing up her sunglasses even though it’s still just early morning.  it takes a little while but at least taehyung finally manages to show.
“ taehyung.” she calls, gesturing him over with a nod and a wave of her hand.  “ i have something for you.  come here and get it so i can stop carrying all these bags.”

joohyunrk‌:
one of joohyun’s biggest fears about leaving trc was losing the re-established connections to friends that had been long lost to her, and losing new ones when they barely had the chance to form. from the start, jei had been one of her easiest new friends, and one that she was hard-pressed to let go of. (thankfully, she was of the same mind.)
being forced to leave trc was still sinking in when the reality of another try at the mgas was dawning upon her. it wasn’t the brightest idea, maybe, but for joohyun, who’s known for a relentless stubborn streak, it was something.
injury be damned and tired of the monotonous resting or therapy, she submitted an application online and somehow made it through to callbacks- somehow, she thinks, knowing it was most likely the producers already anticipating making an example out of her.
but telling friends, telling jei, meant coming to terms with the fact that this wasn’t a decision everyone would support, and joohyun figures that much when jei asks to meet for coffee.
there’s a laundry list of reasons running through her head filled with pros and cons of doing another season, even up until she sits across from her friend, she’s thinking, calculating whys and why nots as if she’s presenting a defense to a jury.
and yet, as soon as she looks at the older, she forgets.
joohyun sighs and sinks down in her chair, rubbing her face. she can’t lie with jei, they’ve been through things that are too similar, and they’re too alike for anything but the truth to be believed despite being new friends. “it’s a dumb idea, isn’t it?” she questions with a half laugh, half scoff. “social suicide.. i know”
jei wants to say she understands joohyun’s thought process, but she doesn’t.  not at all.
it’s not just that the mgas were the bane of her existence, and jei knows that joohyun at least somewhat felt the same.  they suffered through a lot in the last season, the both of them, for reasons that really shouldn’t have been an issue in the first place.  but this isn’t just about the mgas.  it’s about the fact that joohyun is making a bad decision, and it’s one that can possibly lead to her inevitable destruction as a dancer.
she knows that people value their dreams so much that they’d do anything to obtain them.  jei’s just not so sure why joohyun is willing to destroy herself in the process to achieve it.  not when she thought she was smarter than that.
joohyun is a diamond.  she deserves to shine.  the mgas won’t give that to her, and it’s very likely that trc is going to end up releasing to the public that they released her due to an injury.  what happens if she ends up a loser again? what if she hurts herself beyond repair?
emotions never show on jei’s face, but it’s not hard to tell from her energy what she’s thinking.  joohyun can probably tell as she sits down because she heaves a sigh when looking at her.  jei doesn’t really have to say anything first because joohyun begins, she knew what this was about in the first place before coming.
so if she already knows, why is she doing it?  “ who cares about social suicide? this is career suicide.” jei says finally, narrowing her eyes at her.  “ trc released you because you couldn’t keep up.  it’s not like the injury magically went away, joohyun.” i know you, you work too hard.  you’ll overwork yourself and make it worse.  the words she doesn’t say.  “ and of all the things you could have done to get noticed again, you chose the mgas? really.”  i can’t support you when you’re like this.
she’s not going to watch as joohyun throws herself into the fire.  not when jei knows she deserves to shine without it.

she doesn't usually go shopping for herself, at least, not at the grocery store.  food for her usually comes prepared by the house maid, who does all the shopping and the cleaning or from restaurants.  jei never usually has to lift a finger to eat a meal when she's hungry for one.  this time though, she's hunting in the aisles and getting lost in them  -  honestly, jei's not too sure what she's doing here in the first place.  she can't even remember the last time that she was in a grocery store  -  even when she dropped off vitamins and oranges for another trainee at her company, she didn't buy anything on her own.  but this time, she's convinced herself that maybe it'd be nice if she gets some quality meat or something to share with hyun when he visits next, but now that she's hunting in the aisles, she has no idea what she's really doing here in the first place.
it's all a little frustrating to look at, much harder to hunt for the things that she wants than she expects.  maybe she should have come with her housemaid or something to pick out the food that she wanted.
jei's about to turn on her heel and walk straight out of the store but she's stopped before she gets a chance to do so.  her back stiffens when she feels someone sneaking up behind her, but the voice sounds familiar enough when he speaks.  she turns with narrowed eyes and a look of death, but hyunggu stands before her with a whine.  maybe they're mostly similar after all.  " you're asking me?"  jei almost wants to laugh, but she's not sure if she can.  " does it look like i go to the grocery store myself? i'm having a hard time, too." she looks around the aisles with a heavy sigh, then turns her attention back to hyunggu. " maybe we're just at the wrong supermarket if we can't find anything we want?"

he glances down at the bag of korean yellow melons that he’s currently holding in his hand. they’re not in season right now, but he kinda wants to get them anyway, considering he’s been randomly craving something citrus-y and there weren’t any mandarins available for him to buy. the downside of living in korea was the fact that most fruits were seasonal, and if it’s not the season for them, they’re virtually impossible to find anywhere.
not even in the foreign food marts – which made sense considering those were mostly for snacks and halal meats. it’s a travesty, really.
putting the fruit back for now, he wanders a little bit more before finding someone he knew and he grins, sneaking up behind her. “nuna~ what are your recommendations for fruit right now?” hyunggu feels like it’s probably a dumb question, but considering he’s never really had to shop for himself, it’s kind of valid. or at least, he thinks so. “i want something citrusy but they don’t have anything!”

rkxhyunjin‌:
Pressing closer, Hyunjin’s head meets Jei’s patting hand with a pleased grin, an undercurrent of pride pressing through him despite the uninterested tone she presents the information with. TRC was no small company, well-known for a multitude of talents, their image almost seems to suit Jei in Hyunjin’s mind. Then again, he also thinks she has it in her to suit any image should she put her mind to it - even over-the-top bubblegum pop.
As they exit the building, Hyunjin holds open the door, a light bounce in his step as he gently nudges her along the road to a lone food stand. “Noona,” he calls out to an older woman standing behind the small set-up, “How are you today?” The woman responds positively, obviously enjoying being called noona. Pointing to some of the food she had laid out, he makes sure to ask for extra large portions since his “Jei noona is here today”. Soon enough Hyunjin is holding a large cup of steaming fish cake in one hand, and a bag of kimbap in the other, looking over to Jei, “Is this enough for now? We can always come back for more later if we get hungry”.
she can tell by the way that hyunjin smiles that he's proud of her.  the thing is, jei doesn't know if she should be proud of herself  -  after all, the last thing she ever wanted to do was give the five companies the time of day.  she still believes that they don't deserve her attention, or her time.  but the thing is, sometimes things slip through the spaces of her fingers and she doesn't have a way to catch them  -  it's too hard to try and hold everything at once.  her thoughts can be like that, especially after her breakup with hyun  -  honestly, joining trc was a means of escape.  she's not sure if she should be proud of that or not.
but hyunjin is.  and she doesn't want to make him lose the smile on his face.
he guides her to the food truck that he was raving about in their texts from earlier in the week and jei crinkles her nose.  she's never really eaten from one before, but if this makes hyunjin happy, she'll survive.  the woman inside seems enamoured with hyunjin  -  after all, it's hard not to be  -  and jei casts a glance over the truck with a careful eye, listening to their conversation without saying much herself.  her eyes are drawn back to hyunjin though the moment he asks if the amount of food is enough, and jei thinks it looks like more than she could possibly eat.  " i think i'll be fine.  whatever i don't eat, you can have." she says mildly, bowing her head slightly to the woman in the food truck before finding a place to sit.  " i've never had this kind of food before.  you know .. from a food truck."

rkjxy‌:
it’s one of those rare moments where she’s left to her own devices. while she did know that being idol means barely having any time left to yourself, she did not really expect it would reach to this extent. maybe because it’s promotion month which explains why they aren’t meant to be roaming around company walls aimlessly. although at this point, it’s safe to say that she has her ways. walking around, she hopes to catch sight of changes she might haves missed while she was neck-deep on debut preparations. she’s heard there might be some new faces? or did they change the paint in this hallway? it must have slipped her mind.
“oh,” she’s startled, turns to the owner of the voice, smiling immediately when she recovers. “hello!” she bows in polite greeting, hoping to hide the giddiness that she feels after having been called by her stage name. truth be told, she’s not used to being called by it yet - after all, she’s lived twenty-one years of her life so far being called joy, sometimes even by her korean name. she’s not going to deny that being called kil sounds nice. “sure thing! what is it that i can help you with?” she smiles. “oh and by the way, welcome to trc! i hope you’ve had a great time so far.”
she never expected that it would be easy to get ahold of an idol, even if jei was a trainee in the company that the said idol was debuted under.  all that she can think of is how she's going to wring yien's neck when she sees him next for making her go through with this  -  joke or not, it's almost embarrassing to approach someone to ask them for an autograph.  she's the last person that would do something like that, even if she completely admired the person.  either way, jei couldn't take a risk with yien possibly telling hyun that she became a trainee, so she didn't really have a choice even if he meant nothing by the threat.
jei almost raises her brow when kil  -  sooyoung  -  joy?  -  whoever bows to her, especially considering that the other girl is the sunbae between the two of them regardless.  the girl seems especially polite though, and so jei passes it off.  she almost wants to scoff at the well wishes, because she's not entirely sure that she enjoys being at trc yet  -  but at the very least, it's kept her mind off of her situation with hyun so at the very least, the training schedule was doing its job at making her forget.  instead she ignores it and continues on without mentioning trc at all.  " i'm supposed to get your autograph or something.  for yien." jei says blandly, shrugging her shoulders.  " he's your mega fan or something and he told me to ask you since i got signed here."

rksohee‌:
it had been a few months since they were able to mingle with the other trainees. as time went on, it became a little more obvious as to why the same number of girls were somehow nowhere to be found at any given moment of the day aside from meals. all suspicions were confirmed once teasers were dropping. at least by then none of them would get fired or kicked off for saying yes once their teaser is out.
sometime between the month where they were finally allowed to mingle with other trainees again and right before their debut, trc picked up new blood. sohee had noticed something about trc really taking advantage of this surge of interest in the company. they had done auditions in the mean time that k.arma was getting ready to drop. there were new people walking in trc’s halls. sohee didn’t want to be rude. with the few days of official trainee status left, she wanted to at least greet them.
the confused expression on the girl’s face is valid for multiple reasons. sohee doesn’t question her. she was, however, surprised by the girl’s usage of sunbae. despite being most of the company’s sunbae, it’s rare for any of them to address her as such. now that she was debuting in a few days, she would be everyone’s sunbae and it would be rude not to call her as such.
“i just wanted to say hi!” she confesses with a wide smile. “i know i won’t be around much soon but i wanted to make sure you’re adjusting well here and you know your way around. i’d hate for you to get lost and most of us will be gone in may.” though it was nearly four years ago, she remembered being sleepy and overwhelmed with the sheer amount of physical demand training brought all at once. there wasn’t any ease into it. it was just training every single day without break.
“i can also hang out with you for the day. make sure you’ve got your bearings.”
she keeps her eyes focused blankly on the girl sitting in front of her out of sake of politeness, but honestly jei just wishes that she could have kept to herself.  she won't mention it aloud though for fear of hurting a sunbae's feelings, and moreover to save herself the trouble that could cause down the line if she happened to rub someone with that much more experience than her in the company the wrong way.  jei's no stranger to making people angry with her behaviour, but at the very least, she's always polite about it.  this time though, she's just not interested in pissing off a senior  -  much less one that's due to debut in just a few days.
in reality, jei didn't know that there was even a group that was supposed to drop from trc anytime soon considering she didn't keep up with entertainment news from the big five after the mgas  -  even before the mgas, honestly.  keeping up with that kind of information wasn't really her cup of tea, but now that she's part of the company it's almost obligated that she know by now.  that, and it's kind of hard to miss with the ads for k.arma hanging around the building everywhere she turns.  she'd be stupid not to recognize the face of chojin even if she hadn't met her before.
either way, jei found herself surprised for just a moment that the soon to be idol even had time to talk with the new blood, but just as quickly as the surprise came, it left her with another carefully crafted neutral mask behind in its wake.  though jei has to admit, she's not really sure why the other girl looks surprised herself  -  is it really that odd for people to call their seniors as they are in trc?
" oh ..." she trails off, tucking some of her hair back behind her ear.  it's not what she expected, and even still jei isn't sure that the other girl really has the time to be spending walking her around the company just to make sure she didn't go into the wrong room or something.  not to mention while it may be a big building, jei thinks that she has the main and most important rooms down at the very least.  " you don't really have to do that.  i know you must be busy with preparing."  she pauses.  " but thank you, though.  it's nice that you wanted to."

rkxhyunjin‌:
Recognising the presence of the returned affection, Hyunjin’s body sags into Jei’s, breath shaky as he hugs her even tighter - unwilling to let go of the physical soother so quickly. Everything feels so shaky and Hyunjin doesn’t trust his own voice - barely trusts his hands when he’s like this. It’s scary when his mind gets muddled, multiple streams of consciousness pressing against the boundaries of his head in an attempt to make sense of what he’s supposed to be feeling right now.
(One part of his consciousness tells Hyunjin that he shouldn’t be here; that he should grow up and learn to tackle his own problems without worrying those he cares about).
“i don’ know,” he admits, defeated as he pulls back and presses the palms of his hands to his eyes in an effort to stave off tears, “i’m overwhelmed - i’m frus’ra’ed - i’m so so ‘ired”. A shaky breath, heavy and unbalanced as he attempts not to cry in Jei’s entryway. “ever’hing is so noisy. i miss signing. i miss home”.
Perhaps it’s a little counter-intuitive to say that he’s homesick when even now, he still lives at home. However, prior to becoming a trainee, although Hyunjin might have rarely seen his parents during the weekdays, he at least had the reassurance of at least one home cooked meal during the weekend. Nowadays he’s rarely ever home when his parents are awake and the chances where he can revert to the ease of sign for communication are few and far between. His friends try - and Hyunjin appreciates that, he really does. It’s just that sometimes he craves something more.
this is an emotion that she's unfamiliar with  -  a breakdown isn't something that jei has allowed for herself in so long, some would say too long.  to see it happening before her to hyunjin right before her very eyes is alarming.  to feel him sink his weight into her body is unexpected at best, but jei still holds him upright and keeps her arms locked around him.  her frown grows deeper and seems settled on her face, because she's frustrated and worried as much as she tries not to let it show.  worried because hyunjin seems so upset.  frustrated because she doesn't know how to fix it.  frustrated more because she barely even knows what's wrong yet.
the words that he speaks stumble from his lips, choked through tears that she can already feel staining her shirt.  this isn't what she wanted for him.  she can't imagine the things that he's going through right now, though they're both going through something painful enough that makes them struggle this much.  but this moment isn't about her.  this moment is about hyunjin and his struggles, and what he needs from her in order to fix it.  jei only hopes that she can.
her throat tightens as she listens to him try to speak.  it's hard for her to hear it, for him to be breaking down and hold back tears that she can already feel staining her shirt as much as he's trying not to cry.  " let's move inside." jei says gently, prying herself gently from his iron grip and guiding him in through the entry way.  " it'll be easier to talk there."
she doesn't take her touch from him, though.  jei knows just how much comfort hyunjin finds from touch and though she's not particularly fond of it herself when she's upset, it's clear that this is what he needs right now.  a quiet sigh escapes her when they finally find themselves situated in the apartment and jei tries to tilt his chin up to make him look at her, raising a brow in question.  " hey .. is training too hard on you? is that what this is about?"

it's been awhile since she's managed to spend some time just dancing.  it's been even longer still that she's managed to spend some time dancing with her cousin; their schedules aren't even remotely close to the same.  yoorim spends her time with jei either through sleepovers or lazy afternoons after training, so it's always nice to see how much her cousin has improved over time since they've danced together last.
today is no exception.  yoorim mentioned wanting to put a dance choreography up on her youtube, one that they've worked on together.  jei spend a few minutes deliberating, since technically by law if she puts out anything remotely creative, apparently trc owns it  -  but yoorim is hard to say no to, and jei doesn't like to disappoint her more than her parents already have.  so she nods her head and this is how they end up in a dance studio, late after her weekend practice at trc.
" let's run through this again." she says simply, pushing back a strand of hair that came loose from her ponytail.  " i think by next weekend we should be good to film.  are you free?"

with how much is said about trc being the most strict company and how hard it is to get into, taehyung never expected to play games for an evaluation. maybe he should’ve, with how much he idolizes tiger jk and his casual attitude for many things. and honestly, taehyung appreciates it. he needs some lighthearted fun after the last month he’s had to endure.
maybe he’s a little too loud as he bounds down the hallways, giggling and shoes slapping on the hard floors. he’s pulled a grand total of zero name tags, and has done mostly a lot of running away ( just because he’s fast ) and trying to psyche out other trainees. he wants to win, he really does, but he can’t stop giggling long enough to pull a name tag.
and right now is no different really. he’s grinning ear to ear as he peeks out from behind a corner, left hand tucked behind his own back so he could hold his own name tag to protect it. there are shouts and other clamoring in the distance, but taehyung doesn’t see anyone. he looks back behind him to make sure he’s only, before spotting jei way too close. the boy yelps and jumps in shock, turning on his heels to face her and spluttering.
“h-how did you sneak up on me like that? you weren’t going to take my name tag were you, noona?” he feigns a pout, but his smile is quick to return, the boy bouncing on his feet to act like he’s light and fast.
she’s not really sure why taehyung is trying to be so damn loud in a game that obviously requires stealth and skill.  either that, or a good group of teammates but jei knows better than to trust anyone.  a game like this leads to the inevitable pitting of one against the other, and she’d rather not take the time to feel guilty if it ends up being her against a squad member.
taehyung obviously doesn’t seem to care about anything, though.  laughing like an idiot, shoes slapping on the floors, it’s like he’s lapsed back into being a child rather than taking this seriously.  it takes her a minute to realize that maybe she’s the weird one for taking a game seriously.  then again, this is an evaluation and that makes it part of work.  no matter how excitable the other trainees get about it, they’re still going to be graded on their skill level.
that makes her way of thinking right in her eyes.  but that doesn’t mean that she’s right in the slightest.
her lips purse when taehyung catches her sneaking up on him and she backs away quickly so that he can’t reach out to grab her own tag, clicking her tongue.  “ because you’re running around like an idiot and can’t hear anything going on around you.” she says blandly, shaking her hair out of her eyes.  “ or maybe i’m just good at stealth games.  you’ll probably never know.”

rkhyun‌:
His gaze watches everything about her – her stance, her posture, the position of her hands, her feet, her head, where she’s looking, her expression. She looks a little tense, and he can’t blame her; this is their first time in a while being out in public together. He can’t quite remember when the last time was, but that was a signal that it was too long ago. He remembers going to Lotte World with her once, for Halloween, and also back to Busan earlier in the year, to visit his family and for her to finally see the region that he grew up in.
She looks tense, and Hyun wonders if this was a good idea. Admittedly, he is a bit nervous. While speaking to her, he keeps a bit of an eye out on the people around them, as well as their reactions. There’s quite a number of people present; he’s not sure who he may bump into. Part of him is hoping that will work a little in his favour. Do people pay that much attention to every single person when there’s a crowd around?
He can’t quite tell by her expression what she’s thinking. It’s nothing out of the ordinary. While Hyun often wears his feelings on his face, Jei’s thoughts are more subdued. They’re like two sides of a coin, but two sides of the same coin nonetheless – inseparable, necessary, not the same without the other. In general, his own features are relaxed, and a little excited. He keeps a respectable distance out in front of so many wandering eyes, although not so far that they’re only strangers meeting for the first time. Anyone can tell they’re friendly, but he’s not giving suggestions that they’re as intimate as they are behind closed doors.
“The old one looked nothing like this~ Which was probably their intention. If it looked just like the old one, I’d be suing. I remember going there once or twice, to see Hongjoong. I mean, it was nice, but not ‘nice’ nice like this new place–” At her suggestion to enter, Hyun’s smile widens a bit more (if that was even possible), and he nods and goes into a small bow, his hands moving with a (probably unnecessary, in her eyes) flourish.
“After you, Miss Kim Jei~”
she can feel his eyes on her even without having to look at him.  they’ve been connected for so long, even before they were dating  -  after all, their story started when they were still so young.  their fated string is attached and while it may knot so much that it becomes a struggle, they still manage to find a way back to each other.  his gaze stops where she ends, and vice versa.  the world around them still turns, but in the end, they find each other.
it doesn’t mean that this situation is easy for either of them.  jei can’t even remember the last time they were seen in public together in the daylight  -  was it way back in the baskin robbins, when hyun would visit and all her employees would swear they were dating when they weren’t? can she even count busan, when it was filled with people much too old to care whether they held hands or not?  she’s not really sure how to act, whether she should stare him down like she used to back in the baskin robbins or at least give him the slightest of smiles like she did back in busan.
in the end, jei thinks that it doesn’t matter.  what matters most is that they’re together, that hyun is trying and that they’re on a date.  as much as they have to keep it quiet, they know what this is.  hyun is close enough for her to touch, for her to talk to  -  even if she can’t touch him until they’re behind closed doors, it’s enough to know that she can.  hyun trying so hard for her right now is enough.
jei’s pulled from her thoughts by hyun talking about the royal building, but her face doesn’t suggest it.  her head turns from the building and her attention is on him: everything about him, from the way his hair is styled up and out of his eyes down to his shoes.  (  she tries not to think about how much she wants to mess up his hair.  that’s something that she’ll just have to do later.  )  “ right.  i’ll just have to take your word for it, won’t i?” she muses, eyes flicking to the building and then back to him.
immediately, her nose crinkles when he embellishes a bow, unable to help her expression from turning to one of distaste.  “ do you really have to do all that?” she asks flatly, shaking her head.  “ you’re a mess.  let’s just go.” she strides to the building and pulls open the door, sighing still at the sight of how busy it is.
but even still, they look like they’re just two friends catching up.  it doesn’t matter if they’re seen.
