🍻 "After Midnight" aka "A.M." 🍻 Black quarter-pony mare (High Whitch x "Midnight The Super Pony") --> owned by Dana Ruhnke and ridden by @whyley_ruhnke This cool black mare was the very 1st quarter-pony I raised. It started a few years ago, when I bred my big-motor black pony mare to our, then Senior-sire, HIGH WHITCH (High Brow Hickory x Bob Acre Doc dtr) in hopes of creating some cool working quarter-ponies with some pedigree 🔥🔥🔥 Since then, they have become one of the hottest items in the foaling pasture each year, and have crossed "Midnight" to, both, HIGH WHITCH and our, current Senior-Sire, LITTLE CATSTEP numerous times, creating just what I had hoped for. ⏳ IN MY PRIME⏳ This cool cat would have been 76 years old today. This picture was taken in the race pits, after a muddy dirt track race. When I see this picture, I always initially think, "That's when he was in his prime"..... Charles "Chuck" William Yost was born on November 29, 1945, and was born, raised, grew up, raised a family, suffered his due share of hardships, and sustained a hold on a South Dakota ranch, right here on land that is still Broadaxe Ranch. If you visited with him long enough, you would have heard enough wild stories and experiences from him, starting during his childhood, to have thought that he had lived 2 lifetimes, and was lucky to have made it through just 1 of them with minimal damage. 😄 So, whenever I see these pictures of him from this stage of his life, I always wish I could have known him "In His Prime"....Man, what a great time, an entirely different person I might have met, and exciting perspective I might have gained from him at that age.... an age that I can currently relate to. Then, I also catch myself wondering, "Was that actually his prime?" Am I in my "Prime"? I don't think so....And I don't think that he probably thought so at the time of this picture either. I can think of countless times in my life where I have specifically thought, "This is the Prime of my life".....only to be pleasantly surprised and proven wrong in the near future, by another aspect of my life that I was living at that now current time. So, Yes, I would have loved to know my Dad at this time in his life, for the same reasons I noted above.... there would have been some wild and fun times, and we could have discussed a lot.....However, I do think that I also knew him at his "Prime", in his later years as a father, grandfather, and proud rancher, as well! I'll often mention at my Horsemanship Demonstrations and Clinics, that I've thought that I'd reached my Prime, or reached my Peak, a number of times already in my life. Life was at it's best, and couldn't get any better.
