Today is Alexander Graham Bell Day. ☎️ Bell was born on March 3, 1847, but this day is observed because it was on March 7, 1876 that he received a patent for “transmitting vocal or other sounds telegraphically,”. On March 10, he uttered the now-iconic phrase, “Mr. Watson, please come here.” I wish to see you,” transmitted via a transmitter. 📞 When The Bell family moved to Canada from Scotland, they purchased a farm along the Grand River in Brantford, ON. 📞 On July 26, 1874, he invented the telephone here. The following summer, he wrote the first copy of his telephone patent plans. And, in August 1876, he made the world's first successful long-distance telephone call between Brantford and Paris, Ontario. Because all of this happened here, Brantford became known as “The Telephone City”.¶ ☎️ The Bell Homestead is now a historic site, and the museum is open for visitors Tues - Sat 9 am -4 pm. 🏡 We were driving around exploring Brantford and knew Alexander Graham Bell day was coming up, so we stopped by to check it out. 🏡 You can find the Bell Homestead at 94 Tutela Heights Rd, Brantford, ON N3T 1A4 ☎️ #telephonecity #discoverbrantford #alexandergrahambell #alexandergrahambellday (at Alexander Graham Bell Homestead) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cpedww3Mf7T/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

We made another quick visit to the old hometown of Crystal Beach today. The town has seen a number of exciting changes, and growth lately and we wanted to check them out. 🎢 They have a new light-up town sign on the beach. A few murals around the Hot dog alley business section of town, Vibrantly painted buildings. Some really cool shops and businesses along the HDA. There is a cute little bakery in town making gorgeous pastries (cakes, macarons, pies, cupcakes cookies, and tarts) We finally got there at a reasonable time of day before they sold out. And picked up some butter tarts for our #buttertartquest. . There is also a brand boutique hotel right on the corner (at the Derby Sq sign) which features individual uniquely themed rooms. We didn't stay there, but maybe one day. . #visitcrystalbeach #CrystalBeach #hotdogalley (at Crystal Beach, Ontario) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpZYFUJtIkV/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

And a #buffalove Mural "You know you're from Buffalo if...." 🦬 Just when we thought.... ."there couldn't possibly be many more" and gave up looking..... Bam! There's another one. You could spend an entire day (maybe more) looking for all the Buffalo statues and murals around the city. 🦬 #Explorebuffalo #inthebuf #Visitbuffalo (at King Condrell's Candy & Ice Cream) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpLGbPmpi7w/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

There are several examples of architect Frank Lloyd Wright's work around Buffalo. Buffalo has more Frank Lloyd Wright structures than any other city in America besides Chicago. 🏪 None is more impressive and well-preserved than the Darwin Martin house in the Parkside district of Buffalo. (a short distance from the Buffalo Zoo. 🏠 The Martin house is a prairie-style design and was built for a wealthy business executive Darwin D Martin (friend and supporter of Wright). 🏫 You can take guided tours of the house and grounds, and learn more about FLW & DDM, as well as wright's connection to Buffalo.. . Be sure to take a stroll through the Parkside neighborhoods and marvel at many other impressive structures nearby. With so many gorgeous buildings within the city, Buffalo is a must for lovers of architecture and design. 🏣 #visitbuffaloniagara #ExploreBuffalo #inthebuf @visitbuffaloniagara (at Frank Lloyd Wright's Martin House) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpJ3pfdOgHg/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

On day two of our second consecutive weekend in Buffalo, we did a few more tourist attractions. We began the day with a visit to the Buffalo Zoo—one of the oldest zoos in America. 🦏 The Buffalo zoo began in 1875 as a zoological park with deer, elk, bison, and sheep. Over the years, it has grown considerably, more enclosures, and more animals with an emphasis on conservation. 🐘 The zoo still boasts many historic buildings from the late 1800s, including the Elephant house building, which you come upon almost immediately upon entry. The history and architecture of a zoo from the pre 1900s is the main reason for our visit. 🐆 #Buffalozoo #Visitbuffalo #buffaloarchitecture @buffalo_zoo @visitbuffaloniagara (at The Buffalo Zoo) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpJctOBrFW_/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Since it has been so long since we have visited Buffalo, We decided to do some touristy things while we were here.  . To round out our 48 hours in Buffalo, we did a little buffalo hunting along the way between stops for some much needed USA retail therapy. . There are so many fiberglass buffalo statues throughout the city you might spend an entire day hunting them all down. Here we have a few of the ones we captured along the way.  . 1) The big Buffalo 2) The McDonald’s Buffalo complete with Ronal McDonald Socks.  3) The buffalo and calf 4) The Big Pink Buffalo at Olympic Restaurant 5) The Salvatore’s Italian Garden Buffalo - which is covered in black rocks 6) The Fancy Dress Buffalo in the Theatre District.  .  7) We also discovered a “new to us” donut shop - Paula’s Donuts - which has some spectacular creations. Their Key Lime, peanut cream, and strawberry shortcake donuts are nothing short of epic.  .  We then stopped off at the NY visitor centre on the way home to get some IheartNY sign photos, for the full touristy experience.  (And some more buffalo sculptures) (8, 9) . We wanted to make a (return) visit Herschel’s Carrousel museum but they are closed til spring. However, they did have a carrousel horse in the visitor centre. So, that will be good enough, for now.  . . https://roguetrippers.com/shuffle-off-to-buffalo/ . . #Explorebuffalo #Visitbuffaloniagara #buffalove (at Visit Buffalo Niagara) https://www.instagram.com/p/Co5F7PrpDkU/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Our first time back in The USA since Family Day Weekend, 2020. 🦬 Our primary reason for visiting is to come to @sheasbflo to see the touring production of @intothewoodsbroadway starring Tony award winners @stephaniejblock and @realgavincreel. 🌳 The show was amazing with an amazing cast, all performing at their highest levels. The audience was so receptive, energetic, and thoroughly entertained. 🌳 Before the show, we took some time enjoying some sites around Buffalo, and enjoyed a fantastic meal at one of our favourite restaurants in the area, @latoltecabuffalo. . It's been far too long since our last visit. . 🌵 #visitbuffaloniagara #sheasbuffalo #intothewoods (at Buffalo Theatre District) https://www.instagram.com/p/Co1TSCzNs2Z/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

On our last day in Banff, we decided to take a quick trip to BC. 🏔️ We headed to Marble Canyon Trail Head to do a small hike along the Kootenay River and check out the waterfall, canyon, and the mountains. The trail criss-crosses over the river, with several little bridges providing different perspectives and view points of the canyon and the ice walls. 🗻 It was a beautiful spot to finish off our short trip. For anyone who knows me.... I am not a fan of heights. In fact, those who have been present when I have done coasters, Ferris wheels, and zip lines....have heard some really spicy language. 😵‍💫 So....putting my anxieties and phobias aside...i agreed to do the Banff Gondola to experience the stunning 360 views of the mountains and valleys. 🏔️ The views made it totally worth the sheer terror I felt during the 9-minute ride up the mountain.... Which also brought Nick immense joy. 🏔️ #banffgondola #visitbanff #Roguetrippers (at Banff Gondola) https://www.instagram.com/p/ColXNqYJPE4/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

We looked into the best way to spot local wildlife while in Banff and one top suggestion was to take the 2+ hour drive around Spray Valley provincial park. 🗻 The very scenic drive (everywhere is a scenic drive) goes through Bow Valley Provincial park Spray Lake PP Peter Lougheed PP 🦌 We saw a small group of elk along the highway, but the lakes, rivers, reservoirs, and dams; and the majestic snow-covered mountains made the drive worthwhile. 🏔️ We also took a couple of small hikes to better appreciate the beauty of nature. . . #rockymountains #Roguetrippers #banffnationalpark (at Spray Lakes, Kananaskis) https://www.instagram.com/p/CokH0XLrbm9/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Our first visit to Alberta, and our first stop was the beautiful Lake Louise. The landscape was a completely frozen wonderland. ❄️ Lake Louise was completely frozen over, making it perfect for skating, skiing, and just walking on. The iconic Fairmont Lake Louise had many beautiful and intricate ice carvings including the light up castle on the lake, and a frozen ice bar where you can enjoy a beverage. There were a number of frozen waterfalls coming off the mountains showing the bright blue water Lake Louise is known for. 🗻 While others are planning tropical vacations in the winter, we choose to embrace the magic of winter. ❄️ #LakeLouise #fairmontlakelouise #Wintertravelideas #Roguetrippers (at Lake Louise, Banff, Alberta) https://www.instagram.com/p/CogyOZarpN7/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Winter is Lit! Take an illuminated walk in the woods. ❄️ We visited the Mountsberg Conservation area for their annual #Winterlit event. The wooded trails of Mountsberg are made more magical with unique and beautiful light displays and photo opportunities. You can take a leisurely stroll through the well lit trails, enjoy hot chocolate & cookies, warm up by one of the many fire pits, pick up a fire branded wood ornament, and enjoy a snack at the food truck. ❄️ The event runs until February 20th at Mountsberg Conservation Area in Campbellville. ❄️ @conservationhalton #Ontariotravel #Roguetrippers (at Mountsberg Conservation Area) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn_KxmLNs9B/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

When you visit Iceland don't forget to pack your swimwear. (even in January) 🇮🇸 A visit to the @bluelagoonis is a bucket list destination for many when they travel to Iceland. The Blue Lagoon is a geothermal spa located in a lava field near Grindavik, Iceland about 20 minutes from #KEF airport. (45 min from Reykjavik). The temperatures of the milky blue geothermal waters are typically between 37 & 40° C. Which makes for an interesting contrast to the chilly air around. The silica in the geothermal seawater is good at absorbing oils, giving the water great healing powers for eczema, psoriasis, and acne. 🇮🇸 A day visit to the Blue Lagoon is not expensive, and your time in the water is very flexible. You are given one free drink, and a free mud mask with your visit. I highly recommend doing the mask. At first it felt a bit irritating on my skin, but afterwards my skin felt great. 🇮🇸 #inspiredbyiceland #VisitIceland #thebluelagoon (at Blue Lagoon Iceland) https://www.instagram.com/p/CncTEW_JHVT/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
