There were certain things that Dex was instructed to deal with when no one else was around. He never left behind anything that could be traced, but just in the event of a slip up, it was better that Harvey not be anywhere near it. Evidently, somehow, one of those slip-ups had happened.
It took absolutely all the self control he could gather the instant Rose spoke not to kill her. He still had the gun in his hand. The same metal drain pipe that had just assisted him in doing the job she’d happened upon would be more than enough to get a bullet right between her eyes, too. Dex’s finger’s flexed, his grip tightening so much his knuckles went white. “The only trick you need right now is getting out of here.”
Rose’s eye flicked towards the drain pipe in his hand then back up towards his face. “I wouldn’t be so sure that’s going to help you out here.” Between her healing factor and her minor precognitive abilities, Rose wasn’t going to have a problem getting out of this situation, she was sure.
As with most things, Rose wasn’t taking anything seriously, especially not the threat against her life. If she got freaked out every time she was threatened, she would never get anything done. Her arrogance was sure to bite her in the ass one of these days, though, and while she was fairly certain that today was not that day, she really couldn’t be all that sure. She didn’t place much value on her own life, anyway.

“Yeah, to take me out. Not to miss.” Dick’s voice was hard and cold. Guarded. He was angrier than he’d been in a long time, but it wasn’t really at Rose. It was at the situation and how out of hand it was. He didn’t respond to what she said, even though he knew what she was referencing to. “Are you going to deliver one of those long villain monologues, or can we just get this over with?” Even though he seemed outwardly relaxed, he was inwardly set and focused, ready to reactinstantly to any move she made.
“Ah, well,” Rose said vaguely, gesturing towards her eye patch. “My depth perception’s off. Cut me some slack.” She put down the gun, reaching to her back and unsheathing her katanas. “I think we can get this over with pretty quick, huh?” she said as she spun the blades around in her hands once, getting them into proper position in her palms before she surged forward to attack him.

“Eww no.” Zach shook his head, “I’m like this everyone sweetheart.” And he pretty much was, granted one or two he treated a little big better but snark with Zach was par for the course. “Yup, that’s how it works in today’s society.” he told her lightly, “Ohhh ominious, well good luck with that.” June and Eddie could their own and Harvey had bodyguards up the whazoo as well as June, and him. “Eh, that was more of a description but tell me veggie, do you actually know who you are? Cause the personalities flip-flops ain’t sitting that well with most.” Like with Eddie for example.
Tumblr media
Rose wrinkled her nose slightly. “Sweetheart, really?” she asked. “Kind of gross and misogynistic if you ask me. Not that anyone was asking me, but I’m just going to put my opinion out there anyway.” Rose folded her arms over her chest. “Ominous? I think you’re reading into things, my guy. I didn’t even threaten anyone yet.” Rose shrugged. “Rose Wilson. Ravager. An assassin with some big, fat paychecks.”

Rose had been squatting wherever she could find the space these days, careful to keep moving so that no one would catch wind of her settling down. She had burned too many bridges and set off too many alarms to live comfortably now, she knew that. So, as she settled in for a night in an un-leased, furnished apartment, she thought this might not be so bad—at least she could hop like this between buildings until she found something more permanent, right? She was just about to prise the window open when she suddenly noticed a flash of red out of the corner of her eye. She stood up. “If that’s another scrawny white boy hero, you should know that I won’t take very long to kick your ass unless you make me.”

“You know, NOVA wanted me to take you out. You’re lucky I got a bigger paycheck not to.” Rose was sitting in Vagabonds with a drink in her hand, looking a little too relaxed for the generally rowdy and rough nature of the club. She downed the rest of the liquor. “Buy me a drink and let’s talk about it.” Rose wasn’t particularly known for her high-quality decision making these days, and she liked the idea of pulling more jobs for someone who had money to throw around like Joker did. It sounded like exactly the kind of big ass paycheck she needed.

Rose had certainly seen her fair share of people who were good, but then there were Slade levels of good. And this guy could probably give Slade a run for his money, if not blow him out of the water. Rose, from where she was crouched above, couldn’t help but comment. “Nice form, dude. You got super powers or something? Because this shit is legit.” rose gestured vaguely between them. “Wouldn’t mind picking up a few tricks.”

“Oh God, how dull.” She could have hired practically anyone with money. She’d been hoping for someone with a little more imagination. Some flair. Apparently neither of those were qualities Rose possessed.
June made a dimissive gestured and turned on her heel. Rose could go back to her mess. Whoever had paid for that clearly hadn’t asked for finesse. “Maybe I’ll be in touch.” She’d thought that Grant was insufferable, but apparently he was the better sibling. That didn’t speak very highly of the family as a whole.
Rose tilted her head to the side. “Whatever, lady,” she said simply. She’d dealt with people like June before. She wasn’t interested in groveling for anyone’s respect, so she let June walk away. Perhaps another time, Rose would shoot her. That was a treat to save for a rainy day.

“Maybe once upon a time, but unlike you I can move forward. The only disappointing thing here now is you.” his parents and cousin wouldn’t rule his life anymore, he had June and Harvey now, they cared. “Really?” He smirked, “My million plus instagram, twitter and facebook followers disagree,” his thoughts drifted towards Eddie for a moment, “Among others.” Zach raised an eyebrow, “I didn’t know being a total bitch was a selling point? Nor emulating the personality and independence of root vegetables.”
Tumblr media
Rose raised her eyebrow. “Are you trying to get under my skin? It’s kind of funny seeing you all try to be mean.” She smirked. “Because your social media following dictates just how likable you are. Totally makes you the best person.” Rose tilted her head slightly. “Others? I might have to pay them a visit. You know, to verify.” She shrugged. “You all seem very quick to try and tell me who I am.”

“Oh I was always going to be famous, runs in the blood.” Zach said lightly, and of that he was certain, Zatara’s were showpeople, such a shame his father had to be the exception. He raised an eyebrow before pushing off and meandering over to the couch, taking a seat and watching her with disdain as she picked at her teeth, “Ugh, classy.” he deadpanned, “Look hard enough and you may find some dignity in there too.”
Tumblr media
“Really? I thought you were the family disappointment,” she replied with a thoughtful look on her features. She wrinkled her nose. “You’re not in much of a position to judge. No one likes you because you have a terrible personality and nothing to offer. At least I have some marketable skills.” Besides, she didn’t care if she was alone. She was fairly certain that Zach did. Most narcissists cared way too much.

“I planned to provide him with the serum he needed. And in return,” she spread her hands, “he was going to act as a sort of glorified retriever for the specimens I want. I suspect you’d be just as capable of doing that.”
June smiled and the expression lacked a single ounce of warmth. She clasped her hands in front of her again. “I’m sure there’s something you want that I’m capable of giving. All you’d have to do is bring a select few people to my lab and leave. Leave the weird to me.”
“I don’t need any serum,” she pointed out, her eyebrow popping up as she looked at June with a judgmental expression on her features. She had no interest in being an errand girl for June, especially not when she knew nothing about her. However—Rose needed money. Maybe if June was willing to pay.
Rose paused for a moment. “How much money you willing to shell out for jobs like this?” Rose wasn’t particularly expensive. She’d do anything for a healthy paycheck—but healthy wasn’t nearly as high as Slade’s fee, which was why she had ended up with more work. At this point, most of the income coming to their joint account was hers.

Eddie sighed and refrained from rolling his eyes, but he pressed his lips together all the same and glared. Not like that was going to do much, but he was getting tired of whatever was going on with Rose - he wanted to fix it, he wanted to help her. “Do you really think so lowly of me?” He asked, feigning his surprise and clutching a hand to his chest. “No, I came back to help clean. I just… Got hungry.” His metabolism seemed to be constantly burning, but that was probably an exaggeration. Probably. “Sure. Just like everyone else, huh? Was I weighing you down?”
Rose pouted at him. “Don’t tell me you’re mad at me, Eddie. For being myself? Seems a little bit unfair if you ask me, baby. I’m just following my true nature.” In Rose’s mind, she was still convinced of that, but that unwavering faith in what Slade had told her was slowly starting to fade. She wasn’t nearly as sure of herself as she had once been—she didn’t think she was going to be able to keep this up for much longer. She was terrified of falling apart in the spectacular way she had before.

There was a metallic click that made him duck instinctively. He felt something whistle by his ear, followed by a sharp pain, and he grimaced as hot blood curled into his ear. The trajectory of the bullet was mapped instantly; his years of training had made him capable of forming quick understanding of the situation he was in. Seconds after the shot had nearly missed him he’d jumped across the narrow ledge and landed feet away from Rose, his gaze burning. “What are you doing?”
Rose straightened. “You gave me money to take you out, didn’t you?” she asked, her head tilting with a rakish smile spread across her lips. With her cartoonish mask covering half of her face, she looked something like a mischievous bird. “And I have another paycheck coming in if I deliver your body. You’ve been a busy boy, haven’t you, Richie?” Rose frowned thoughtfully. “I have to say, I’m just a little impressed. I only thought you could cause waves among the teen beat crowd.”

“Well thank goodness for that,” Eddie called out before walking over to Rose. He was on guard, yes, and it showed, but he wasn’t about to give up on her. They were friends, he had to stay by her side, otherwise what was the point? Eddie swallowed thickly and popped another oreo into his mouth. He had a whole sleeve in his hand and his tail twitched nervously. He might’ve been a bit hungry. “To the not armed part, not the pissed part. Sorry about… all this. I’m not cut out to be a babysitter…” Eddie munched on another oreo. “I heard Grant left. Sorry to hear that.”
Rose tilted her head to the side as a mocking smirk appeared on her features, leaning back against the door and folding her arms over her chest. “So, you just thought it was cool to come in here and make a mess? Jesus.” She paused at the mention of Grant—just another person who had abandoned her, had left her in the lurch when she was so desperate for any sort of familial connection—but she quickly moved forward. “Doesn’t matter. He was weighing me down, anyway.” A prolonged amount of time away from Slade had made her softer, less under his control. Her feelings were coming back—but she didn’t know how to deal with them.

“If knowledge was a requirement for judgements, practically no one could make them. But here we are.” And she was certainly judging by what she could see. If nothing else, Rose seemed sloppy.
June folded her arms and considered things for a moment. She and Rose could certainly part ways and go about their separate business, or…”You know, I had an arrangement with your brother, but since he’s disappeared on me maybe you’d be interested in making a new one.”
Rose shrugged. “I didn’t show up here for a philosophical discussion.” She wiped her lips again with bloody fingers, wrinkling her nose slightly as she leaned back against a nearby lamppost with a quizzical expression.
“Yeah? What kind of arrangement was that? Though, I’m not all that surprised that he fucked off out of it,” she said, examining her nails lightly. “I’m not going to get into anything weird. No creepy shit.”

“Well my backup to fame was to do standup.” he replied lightly (though it had actually been singing, he could hold a damn good tune). “Oh yea, likely murders, thugs and general agents of chaos.” he deadpanned, waving his hands slightly as he lent against the wall and crossed his arms, “Oh really? And what could I possibly do for you?” More to the point, what could he possible want to do for her. Aside from being a general bitch she’d upset Eddie… And that didn’t sit well with him.
Tumblr media
Rose raised an eyebrow. “So, your backup to fame was more fame? Doesn’t sound like much of a backup to me.” Rose shrugged a shoulder. “Take a seat, bud,” she said, gesturing to a chair across from her. “Let’s have a little chat, shall we?” Rose picked at her teeth lightly with her pinky nail, wrinkling her nose as she looked at what she had picked out before wiping her hand unceremoniously against her pants.

It had been ages since Dani had seen anyone. Joker, Harley, even Catwoman would’ve been a sight for sore eyes. But the recent chaos of the city had apparently sent everyone scattered or underground. The rooftops had been lonely as of late. Until now, when she spotted a familiar figure on the edge. Dani notched an arrow just in case, but kept herself relaxed. “Relax, pissing people off isn’t really on my agenda. And if I wanted to shoot you, I wouldn’t be sharing your rooftop.”
Tumblr media
Rose raised an eyebrow. “You might as well put the arrow down, it’s not going to help you much. Except that it will piss me off.” Rose’s almost fantastical healing factor was a direct result of how Slade had manipulated everything about her, even her body. When she wasn’t so firmly under his thumb, she thought about how fucked up that was, that he had invaded everything she had, but now, she didn’t think much of it. In her eye, Slade could do no wrong.
