Lol omg, so, when I read this my brain first went to my 'Zuko is possessed by a dragon' fic and I was like...well, laughter sure is an unexpected reaction to that genre but I am glad it was enjoyed regardless, who am I to judge! being neutral about other peoples kinks is necessary by the way. when consenting adults are doing things between consenting adults, and you prioritize your discomfort over their autonomy and right to exist safely in a space without having their private interests excavated and recontextualized to make them out to be predators, that says way more about your willingness to place yourself in the position of moral authority than it does about them and you deputizing yourself on the basis of nothing but vibes and your personal traumas makes you very dangerous politically.

Hellooooo dear one, well it has probably been a long while since you sent this, but I am mostly okay! Very very busy. Have been in the depths of a cross-country move for the past half-year, and actually, I also got pregnant. Sadly it ended in early miscarriage, so it has been a busy and emotional time honestly! (I have dropped things here and there about my life but I do generally like to keep things more private especially in regards to identity stuff, so I considered not sharing this tidbit - I hope it is not TMI for you lol - but...idk, miscarriages have such a stigma but are sooo common, and there are no real stakes for me in sharing this identity-wise, so I thought it might be helpful or at least sort of normalize talking about it, even if it's just around here).

BUT! Spring is on the way and I've been trucking on :)

Just wanted to let you know how creative i think the ‘master of shu jung’ is and i have not seen that concept in a zutara fic before! If you got any inspiration from anywhere can you let me know where so I can explore this “genre” more. It kind of reminds me of The Edge series by CD Reiss.

Anyways, I hope you are taking care of yourself and I do look forward if you continue the story. Let me know if you accept tips!!

Oh that's exciting! Definitely needed more dragon!Zuko in my life and that was about 50% of the reason for writing it, buuut inspiration mainly came from The Poppy War trilogy, specifically the character of Nezha. I have never even heard of The Edge by CD Reiss before 👀

In terms of genre or vibe I lean very heavily on a lot of conventional horror tropes (or try to lol). I love gothic horror, that and body horror are probably the most influential on something like The Dragon of Shu Jing, because it deals with possession/loss of control/the sensations of being trapped and so on. Also typical creature fic sort of stuff. And in published fiction, anything labeled 'dark fantasy' or 'grimdark' would probably also suit you if you like this sort of thing!
