Emerald Grove Group Timeline
One thing that’s confused me about act 1 is when people have arrived in the emerald grove and left it. We have a lot of moving parts going on so let me list them all out.
Spoilers below for some Emerald Grove quests and secrets
Arriving
The Teiflings - they arrive being chased by a gnoll party as we know many of the Teiflings saw their friends killed by goblins and gnolls before arriving at the grove.
The Gnoll party - this is the group that attacks the Teiflings initially and kills people like Lihala, Alfira’s mentor.
Dissected Drow Goblin party - the drow being dissected by Halsin attacked Halsin and Nettie while they were meditating.
The shadow Druids - the three rats that are getting Kahga to do the rite of thorns.
Aradin’s Crew first arrival - they have to arrive at the grove not being cashed by goblins. This includes Aradin, Remira, Barth, Liam, the three dead adventurers at the bridge, two new dead adventures in the goblin camp (I believe they are new), and Brian the dwarf being roasted.
Wyll- he arrives after the nautiloid shows up because him and Karlach get on it while in the hells.
Findal- the Hafling/Gnome in the underground passage who’s knocked out.
Goblin tunnel party - these are the goblins that are in the tunnel to the grove between the prisons to the left side of the gate.
The Gate goblin party - this is the goblin party we fight outside the grove.
Aradin’s crew second arrival - Aradin arrives outside the grove with only Remira and Barth
Zorru’s scouting party - Zorru and the Teifling who we find being eaten by the Ogrers went scouting and ran into the Githyanki on the risen road near the mountain pass.
Nymessa and Damays - the Teiflings who find Lae’zel in the goblin camp. They get in before the second goblin party attacks.
Leaving
Aradin and Halsin - Halsin joins Aradin’s crew to investigate the abandoned Selûnite temple
Zorru’s scouting party - either left before entering the grove to scout ahead or left right after arriving with main Teifling party
Nymessa and Damays - leave to check out the nautiloid explosion.
Grove Gate Policy
Halsin’s Grove policy - while Halsin is at the grove, anyone can come in. He freely offers shelter to the Teifling refugees and lets Aradin’s crew to set up camp.
Kagha’s and Zevlor’s Grove Policy?
This one is a bit confusing because we know that Kagha wants every non Druid out of the grove but during the ‘open the bloody gate cutscene’ we have Kanon telling us that he was ordered by Zevlor to not let anyone in. If you wait to trigger the dialogue, you can hear Aradin yelling to go get Zevlor and Kanon yelling back that he’s been informed. Once the battle is over and if you avoid triggering the confrontation cutscene, Aradin and Zevlor have dialogue where Aradin says he blames Zevlor for not opening the gate. We also have Remira saying they shouldn’t have trusted the Teiflings.
But we also know that the grove was expecting Halsin to return. Was Zevlor going to keep the gate closed until he could verify it was Halsin? Or was Kagha going to keep Halsin out to preform the right of thorns?
So I believe that when Aradin and Halsin left the grove, they were expecting an easy return but Kagha has Zevlor keeping a tight hold on who comes in and out. This is also why I think Wyll showed up before Halsin left.
Known Grove Activities
What have these people been doing?
We know from the banter between the Teifling couple that the Teiflings were on the road for 3 days before being attacked by gnolls and goblins.
Halsin has to dissect the Drow and realize the tadpoles are different from regular tadpoles.
Zevlor and Aradin get to hate eachother. These two haven’t met before the grove so in that window of time where they meet before Aradin leaves with Halsin, they grow to hate eachother a lot.
Kagha is able to turn the grove mostly against the outsiders. This was probably easy for her as there were multiple stressors on the grove.
Kagha being influenced by the shadow Druids.
Arabella tries to steal the idol and gets caught.
Proposed timeline
Shadow Druids make contact with Kagha and influence her to believe the rite of throne is needed to keep the Grove safe from the absolute cult.
Halsin and Nettie are attacked by the Goblin party led by the male Drow.
Halsin dissects the male Drow and finds out the tadpole is different.
The Teiflings are attacked by the Gnolls and many are killed by goblins as they flee to the grove.
Halsin convinces the other Druids to let the Teiflings stay.
Zorru’s scouting party leaves the grove. (This can happen anywhere between Teiflings arriving to Nymessa and Damays investigating the crash).
Aradin’s crew arrives at the Grove. He most likely didn’t come across any goblins because he didn’t know the temple was filled with goblins.
Aradin and Zevlor have conflict most likely over Aradin being okay with Halsin accompanying him and probably Aradin being confrontational.
Halsin leaves with Aradin putting Nettie in charge of keeping the dissected Drow secure and Kagha leading the grove.
Kagha convinces the other Druids they need to preform the rite of thrones.
Zorru returns from scouting and tells everyone about the githyanki.
Nautiloid crashes at night
Wyll arrives at the grove and endures himself to the Teiflings
Nymessa and Damays leave to investigate the crash and return.
Final is ambushed by goblins while gathering herbs and is knocked out in the underground passage.
Arabella tries to steal the idol and gets caught.
Aradin and his remaining crew return to the grove followed by the Goblin party and the player party.
So yeah, that’s my rough reconstruction of what’s happened at the grove before we arrive. Lots of moving parts so let me know if I miss anything!

Quick question: why doesn’t Gale land ON TOP OF ME when I pull him out of the portal?
Like if Larian can give me sexy knife time with Astarion as the first meeting, give me an awkward Gale who has just fully landed on top of me, almost nose to nose, with Gale stumbling over his very eloquent words.

tadpole durge going back to being enthralled with gortash even when their in a relationship,
original LI walks in on durge getting railed HARD 😞 by gortash and durge doesnt know if they should stop and go after them or accept it and enjoy the ride
Oh wow you know the companion live internist would be pissed! All this work for you to go back to your ex that you don’t even remember? Wow.
Although I think if durge explained “I was literally mind controlled” they would be more readily to forgive.
But if the Gort dick is good enough to keep him in the hood grace of a Bhaalspawn for like a decade, then it might be worth losing a short term partner over.

So, after thinking about how Bhaal/Bane would disapprove or approve of a Durgetash relationship....
Thing is, it's time to talk about biological sex in BG3 and how the reactions of their gods and followers would differ if Durge was male/female. It's kind of uncomfortable since it hits close to home and I guess that's why it is just omitted but while the game doesn't really care about your gender/sex, it would be realistically a big issue (at least for humanoids).
Taking into account how highly regarded pure blood is in Bhaalists (enough for Sarevok to commit incest with his own daughter) female Durge would be probably expected to stay virgin by the temple or to procreate with a Bhaalspawn (hell, probably Sarevok himself, urghhhh). Think about it, the leader of the Bhaalists temple - and the closest thing to Bhaal himself - getting pregnant is a huge thing. It makes her incredibly vulnerable.
So I think Durgetash hits massively different for a female Durge than a male Durge. Bhaal would be SO FURIOUS (and Bane delighted) if he got notice that his daughter risked pregnancy by sleeping with a Banite.
Male Durge could just fuck around as he wants. He's expected to procreate, yes, but he's not expected to care for his offspring. There's far less risk involved here. But female Durge would be guarded most of the time and sleeping with "the enemy" would be seen as a huge betrayal due to risk of "tainting" the bloodline.

just thinking about gortash and his bf/pet dragonborn durge. gort thinks of durge as a stray that slinks in whenever he likes, though the disgusting sewage pipes or through his window at the top of wyrms rock, with mysterious dagger sized holes thoughout the fortresses' walls. while he doesnt appreciate the body parts lovingly strewn around his office of various nobles(that hes probably slept with), he warms up to the scaled tail curling around his shoulders. with enough praising words against their face and his gauntlet trailing against them, gortash is able to once in a while specify their next target
Durge is definitely the local street cat who's claimed Gortash's house as theirs! I have a little fic that's been sitting in my drafts for too long so this is the perfect opportunity to post it!
tw for dead body and bone breaking.
Gortash left the mansion of one of his many lovers in the upper city to begin his long walk back home in the lower city. The lady had given him one of her family rings, a beautiful gold band decorated with a rainbow of precious gems. The ring was worth more than her entire mansion but Gortash was great at getting what he wanted from his lovers.
As he approached his house, he noticed the window to his room was ajar. A clear sign that his little assassin was here and wanted him to know it. He sighed as he walked up to his room, prepared for whatever horrors his little Bhaalspawn had to discuss. Gortash pushed his door open only for it to be stopped by a large object. He looked down and saw through the slit of the door that a body was laying on his floor. Gortash groaned at the thought of scrubbing blood from the wood. He pushed against the door harder, moving the body back just enough for him to slip inside.
The Dragonborn sat atop his desk, their knife delicately removing any remaining flesh from a large bone. Their head was lowered, too engrossed in their ghoulish work to notice him or, more likely, feigning ignorance of his presence. Gortash cleared his throat, and their head darted up to look at him. Their eyes were filled with pure contempt as they glared at him.
“What do I owe the pleasure and the present,” Gortash nudged the dead body with his foot, “to, my dear assassin?” Gortash looked down at the body to see who they'd dragged into his room. It took a moment to recognize the woman through all the blood and guts spilled, but he realized it was the noblewoman he had just spent the evening with. Gortash looked back at his little assassin and quirked a brow, “bit of a waste of an ally.”
That seemed to get to them. They gripped the bone tightly in both hands, breaking it with the ease a child breaks a stick.
"Ally? Is that what she is? What does her alliance bring you, Banite?" the bone fell from their claws, striking the floor with a deafening thud. The Dragonborn stood to their full height. Their delicately arched horns just scrapped the ceiling. Despite their impressive size, each footstep was silent. They towered over Gortash, their piercing eyes staring into his soul, laying him bare and devouring everything he could offer them.
"Her family has deep pockets. I make more spending a night in her bed than I do smuggling weapons," Gortash raised his hand with the elaborate gold ring, "it was an easy arrangement. Hard to find someone so willing to drop family heirlooms."
"I want to amend our alliance." the Dragonborn said.
Gortash quirked a brow, "What do you have in mind?"
The dragonborn pressed the tip of a claw into Gortash's chest. He wondered if they could feel his racing heartbeat. "Your alliances with nobles are for political gain alone," they turned the claw around to point at themselves, "Our alliance will now include funding. Understood?"
Gortash chuckled, "Is my dear Bhaalspawn jealous of my bed warmers?"
The jab did nothing to their stony exterior, not even a flicker of their intense eyes. The Bhaalspawn reached behind them into their pouch and pulled out a handful of jewels. Gortash recognized them immediately, he had just earlier that night persuaded his companion to part with one of her many accessories. The dragonborn held centuries of conquest, politics, and success in their claws.
Enver reached out to touch one of the pieces only for the Bhaalspawn to grip his wrist with their spare hand. "Do you swear to our new alliance Enver Gortash, Chosen of Bane?"
Gods, they were magnificent, "I do, I swear to you, Chosen and Child of Bhaal" They placed the priceless treasure into Enver's hand. Their touch lingered as they guided his hands to tightly hold the jewels.
The Dragonborn quickly stepped away from Gortash, causing the floor to squeak. They grabbed the mangled corpse that was at their feet and threw it over their shoulder. Without another word or glance in his direction, they left.
Enver placed the jewels on his desk and laid down in his bed. His heart raced but he wouldn't say if it was from seeing the corpse, the incalculable amount of wealth, or the Dragonborn offering so much for so little.

How Gortash reacts to Durge’s new lover Part 2
Part 1 here!
Thanks to @rainbow-spinelli13 for requesting this!
Halsin
Gortash is really taken aback by this big, tree hugging, bear standing right behind you. This is what attracted The Chosen of Bhaal? Gortash gets the physical attraction, he wouldn’t mind climbing Mount Halsin himself. But he never expected his love to fall for someone so devoted to nature.
Halsin’s physical attractiveness is the only good quality of his, on every other front, him and Gortash clash. Gortash loves engineering and advancing technology while Halsin loves nature and traditional hobbies. Gortash sees himself as the greatest having never done any wrong while Halsin is always second guessing his choices.
But more than a personality clash, Halsin makes Enver feel something he hates feeling, insecure. Halsin is so much bigger, more experienced, and doesn’t have a clear flaw for him to exploit.
Gortash hates feeling less than someone, his whole climb to Archduke was to feel above everyone else. Only to have someone come in who has taken the most important person from him. He hates it.
Halsin isn’t keen on Gortash and will advice you against reconnecting with him. This tips Gortash over the edge and gives him the push to get Halsin out of the picture. If he can’t be better than Halsin, then he’ll make sure the only thing he’s competing with is a corpse.
Part of Gortash wants to believe that you chose Halsin because he reminded you of himself. A strong leader giving his all but he doubts that’s the reason.
Karlach
Gortash has to laugh at the dramatic irony of your pairing. His former body guard not only fighting along side his nearest and dearest but becoming your lover? He has to laugh at it.
That amusement quickly turns to anger once he realizes that neither of you are grateful for what he did for Karlach. He took an up and coming youth and gave her the opportunity to truly become powerful. And you not realizing that just shows how far you’ve fallen.
Gortash would reveal that you actually agreed to send Karlach to Zariel 10 years ago because you thought she couldn’t protect him. He’d even exaggerate to drive a wedge between you two.
Gortash likes to think that you fell for Karlach because you missed how he protected you. Perhaps you saw him in a similar light and subconsciously craved to be with someone strong again. It’s just a shame that you chose Karlach.
He’s willing to let you both back into his life but only if you and Karlach acknowledge how great he’s been for both of you.
Lae’zel
Lae’zel reminds Gortash of what you were like before disappearing. Blunt, murderous, and singleminded in her goals. Gortash is disappointed that you chose someone similar to yourself instead of him but beggars can’t be choosers.
Lae’zel’s intense loyalty to the Gith is something Gortash believes he can manipulate. Perhaps he can turn that loyalty toward himself and Bane? Or he may find a way to get her out of your life.
If you and Lae’zel get the Orphic hammer by killing Raphael and then kill the Emepror? Gortash is more than ready to welcome Lae’zel in as the third wheel. She may never be as beloved as his favorite but she does have a certain charm to her. Killing an abusive father figure is probably the hottest thing only could do.
Gortash is not threatened by Lae’zel being your new lover. Of course you are with her because she reminds you of your old self! And the sooner you become your old self, the happier Gortash will be.
Any pushback Lae’zel tries to use will be seen more as a toddler throwing a fit that their favorite toy is being taken away rather than a serious issue. She should be honored to view this match of two chosen above everyone and only equal to eachother.
Shadowheart
Shadowheart is another person Gortash feels jealous of. To have parents that love you so much to go through decades of torture? Even willing to sacrifice themselves for her freedom? That’s something Gortash wants so deeply that he’s willing to tadpole his parents so they’ll say they’re proud of him.
Gortash also sees his life mirrored in Shadowheart’s. They both were taken by an evil servant working for a higher power, they were tortured, but Gortash escaped and chose his own god. Perhaps he would offer support for Shadowheart breaking away from Shar if you asked him to. She could make a loyal banite in her search for a new deity.
Or he’d give Viconia all the support she needs to take Shadowheart out of your life.
Gortash is fine with you keeping Shadowheart as a side thing. She can be pushed away and persuaded to back down, Gortash just needs the right thing to hold over her head.
Shadowheart’s openness to polyamory definitely wins her some favor in Gortash’s book as she can be convinced to let your old relationship flourish again.
Gortash sees Shadowheart as someone he can control. He knows the weaknesses she faces with her parents and is willing to exploit that. While envious of her parents devotion to her, he takes some solace in knowing it was her who hurt them.
Minthara
Minthara is similar to Gortash, both are ruthless, ambitious, and devoted to their goals. You missed him so much so you found someone who matches his drive. He’ll show you who has the highest goals and who will bring you to such great heights.
Minthara could make a good Banite. Gortash is willing to welcome her back into the absolute fold but with the curtain pulled back. Instead of following a false god, she can follow Bane and Bane’s chosen.
Minthara’s biting remarks and intelligent quips are greatly appreciated by Gortash. She can keep up with his and yours conversations.
But the deal breaker is Minthara’s intense possessiveness over you. Gortash is almost offended on your behalf for someone thinking the could limit your life. Enver would never try to limit your exploration, as long as you always came back to him.
If you truly want to keep Minthara, Gortash will get her to change her mind. Obviously the elder brain will need to be under his control, but once it’s is, everything can go back to normal.

The “He did miss this.” Killed me!!
This gives a lot of avenue how they were before pre-tadpoled.
So Gorty likes hard to get, someone who doesn’t give in right away. Like Gaston said “It’s the one’s who play hard to get are always the sweetest prey.”
Ahhhh me who goes feral for Durgetash crumbs.

Welcome!
Mission Statement:
The purpose of this side blog is to publish my writing to improve upon it and just bring a smile to people’s faces.
Currently I’m into Baldur’s gate 3 with my favorite characters being Astarion, Gortash, and the one and only Aradin Beno. He is best boy and I’ll die on this hill.
Requests or Asks:
If you shoot me a request I might write it but I already struggle writing what I want to write so no promises! But peer pressure might get me in gear.
If you want to chat about characters, especially how great Aradin is and how he deserves more love, then let’s chat!
I love small bit characters who have little screen time but show big personalities!

Gortash: so what is your name?
Durge: my followers call me “The Chosen”
Gortash: yeah I’m not doing that. Do you have another name?
Durge. I… I do not know.
Gortash: would you like to choose a name for me to call you?
Durge: I’d like that.

How Gortash reacts to Durge’s new lover
Gale
Out of all four male romance options, Gale is the one Gortash would like the most. Someone who is also intelligent, ambitious, messing with power beyond his control. Gortash likes how that reflects back onto him.
He thinks you’re with Gale because you loved those elements about him.
He’s also the least threatened by Gale being in your life because he has a magical bomb in his chest. If needed, Gortash can find a way to get him out of the picture.
But Gortash is not a possessive man, he would not want to keep you from exploring other men, just as long as you come back to him. If Gale decided he wanted to keep you all to himself, then Gortash would have no problem disposing of that little problem.
Gortash and Gale would definitely be friends, both nerding out on magic and tech.
Astarion
Gortash sees his younger self reflected in Astarion. Someone who has been used and abused by a master, now free and trying to grasp at any power he can get his hands on so he never has to go back to his past life.
He’s not willing to reflect on their similarities and instead focuses on Astarion’s weaknesses.
Astarion is a walking corpse, he escaped murder before. Would Bhaal not be pleased with the murder of a man who slipped out of his grasp? But Astarion’s death can not compare to Gortash’s death at your hands.
Gortash would also be incredibly toxic and compare their trauma and their escapes. Gortash sees himself as suffering more and being stronger for escaping on his own. He’s unwilling to let go of the idea that he suffered more but rose to such greatness.
Part of Gortash fears that you liked him because he was weak when you first met and now have chosen another weak man.
Astarion and Gortash do not get along and will spit venom at eachother whenever they are within eyesight of the other.
Wyll
Gortash absolutely despises that you chose to partner with Wyll. The young, heroic, and highborn man who’s the complete opposite of everything Gortash views himself as.
You being with Wyll truly confirms to Gortash that the person he loved is utterly and truly gone. Changed so beyond recognition that it’s easier for Gortash to view you as another person just wearing the face of who he loved.
If Wyll has been turned into a devil, Gortash is even more taken aback and disgusted by your choice of him as your partner. Gortash opened up to you pre-tadpole about his time in the house of hope and his hatred for devils.
Part of Gortash envies Wyll’s life. He wants the life that Wyll left behind. To be born into power, to have family that won’t sell you, but to know Wyll left that all behind to be an adventurer leaves sour taste in his mouth.

First Steps: Aradin Beno x half drow! Tav
Note: it’s been a while since I’ve written fanfiction so I’m a little rusty.
AO3: First Steps: Aradin x Tav
Aradin did not know what he expected when the half-drow took the night song contract, but he knew he did not expect her to do this. She had come back to the grove with Liam draped over her back. He was barely conscious but was able to get out that he didn’t let the grove’s location slip. Aradin though Liam was as good as dead, looking at his unconscious body curled up in a sleeping back, a part of him thinks he’d be better off that way. Beyond saving Liam’s life and asking for nothing in return, the drow also retrieved some of the gear and personal items from his fallen comrades.
“It’s not much, but it will bring their family some peace,” she said. Aradin had always heard stories of Drow, cold hearted elves driven underground with their women ruling and subjugating anyone they could. But looking at her, he didn’t see anything close to those stories. At first glance, she looked like any normal half-elf with the same slightly pointed ears as Barth. But her complexion was just a tad too ashy to be normal. Almost as if she was close to death. Her hair was also another sign of her Drow heritage, it was a strange shade of white only seen on people from the under dark. The most human thing about her were her eyes. Soft, caring, and memorizing. He felt like she was staring right into his sole.
Aradin took the supplies and told his companions they’d leave as soon as Liam could travel. Before he could do much else, the half drow grabbed his arm.
“You’ll be dead if you leave the grove.” Her voice did not match the strength that she gripped his arm with. Too calm, like she had practiced saying it to everyone.
“The druids won’t like us sticking around. Better to get out now before the gobbos come back.” He tried to sound unbothered but it was difficult with her staring directly into his soul.
“We’re figuring out how to stop the ritual,” her three companions looked bored as they watched them. “Once the goblin camp is cleared, then it’ll be safe to leave.”
Aradin pulled his arm from her grasp, finding her grip all for show. “We don’t have time to wait around for you to straighten out this mess”
“The only way out is chocked with goblins, gnolls, orcs, and bugbears. We’re only alive cause I’m part drow. They won’t be as lenient to you. If you want any chance of seeing another gold piece, you’ll stay put”
The pale elf stepped up next to her, resting an arm on her shoulder, “I’d do what she says, we’d hate to wipe blood off your loot when you’re dead.” He gave a cheeky smile at his little threat.
Aradin tsked, mulling over his options. Look like a coward in front of his crew and hers or staying alive. “Fine. We’ll stay, don’t make us wait long.”
The pale elf turned away with a sing song voice saying, ‘see, it wasn’t that hard’. The wizard and cleric both looked fed up with their leader making a big fuss over him and his crew. But the drow? She gave him a soft smile that almost made Aradin forget her earlier warnings. “Thankyou,” she said before turning around to follow her companions off to their camp.
Aradin pulled himself away from staring at her retreating form to grab a drink. He sat down across from Barth and Remira, taking a long swig of the bland alcohol. The trio sat in silence for a while, each glancing over at Liam to make sure he was still there, still alive.
Remira was the first to break the silence, “she’d make a terrible sell sword. Didn’t even ask for money and gave it to us!” A large smile broke across her lips.
Barth joined in with more praise, “she also got me mum’s locked back from those brats. Thought I’d lost it forever.”
Aradin lost himself in thought about the half-drow. She was so altruistic, saving them at the gates, keeping Zevlor from attacking him, and saving Liam. She wasn’t a paladin as far as he knew. Most likely a ranger based on how she favored the bow over more close ranged weapons. He wondered why she was doing all this. Could she really afford to adventure without focusing on money? Just doing good deeds? Her companions did not seem like the type to go along with making the world a better place, but they stuck around with her.
It only took two days for her to return to the grove with Halsin in tow. The large elf didn’t seem to hold any ill will towards Aradin for leaving him to die. He’d even invited his group to stay for the party to celebrate the goblins’ defeat. Aradin almost declined until the drow caught his eyes, that sweet smile across her lips, that was all it took for him to accept.
Parties were not his thing. Not even the alcohol was enough to get him to socialize with the people there. Barth and Remira had ran off to talk to some teifling bard. Liam was healed up enough to be talking to the druids. That just left Aradin, standing off to the side, watching everyone have a good time. He was lost in thought that he didn’t realize the drow had approached him.
“Hey,” he jumped a bit but quickly composed himself, “how you enjoying the party? Worth sticking around for?” She looked up at him with such a genuine smile on her face. It had been a while sense someone looked at Aradin like that.
He took a moment to compose himself, masking it by taking a swig of the alcohol, “beats being dead. But could use better wine.”
She let out a cute giggles, “can I talk to you in private?”
That truly caught Aradin off guard, “what? Don’t want to be seen talking to me?”
She rolled her eyes, “just have a few things to discuss that I’d rather not have people eavesdropping on.”
Aradin gave her a nod and let her lead him away from the party. She took him down to the beach next to the grove. To his surprise, a white dog and owl beat cub were curled up next to each other sleeping.
“Didn’t know you brought pets with you,” Aradin was cautious not to wake to animals.
“I found them near the goblin camp. Scratch, the dog, was guarding his owner who the goblins killed and the owl bear cub was captured by the goblins after they killed his mom.” She sat down on the sand, gazing fondly at the two.
Aradin followed suit, placing himself close enough to her that they might touch without it being obvious, “you brought me out here to talk about your dog and cub?”
She shook her head but still kept looking at the duo, “I wanted to offer you some information we found on the night song,” she pulled out a small leather bound journal and opened it to a page with multiple notes scribbled down. “The night song isn’t in a Selûne temple. Whatever it is, is hidden in a Shar temple in the shadowlands.”
Aradin skimmed over the notes in her journal, they confirmed what she was saying. “So why you given this to me? I ain’t sending my crew after the night song again if that’s what worries you.”
She looked up at him, an eyebrow quirked, “while it’s not the night song, I hope Lorroakan will pay for information on its location. Especially considering he doesn’t know where it’s actually located.”
Aradin scoffed, “so you want me to be your errand boy? I ain’t-”
“I want you to take the money,” she cut him off. “Get your crew to Baldur’s Gate and get whatever the wizard is willing to pay for that information.”
That truly stunned Aradin, “what’s the catch? Drows aren’t this friendly.”
She bristled at his words. She reached up and grabbed the front of his tunic, pulling him down slightly. “I’m helping you and you insult me? Forget it you’re an ass.” She pushed him back and snatched her journal back.
“Wait, no!” She turned back to look at him, “I am… sorry. Im not used to people being nice, not without me giving something in return.” Aradin took a deep breath, steeling himself for how vulnerable he was being. “Thanks for savin’ my life, gettin Barth’s mums locket back, saving Liam and the Druid, it’s more than anyone has done for me. I don’t know what I could give you in return but thank you for all of it.”
Her face softened back to a smile, “I don’t do good things so people give me stuff. I just like helping.” She ripped the page of notes on the night song from her journal and handed to him. “All I need you to do is stay alive long enough to get some gold.”
He smiles back, in the moonlight she looked very pretty, her eyes sparkled, and Aradin’s cheeks flushed.
She began to fidget with her journal, “there is one thing I wanted to ask you to do. It’s kind of a big request but I’m willing to give you some stuff to help if you agree.”
Aradin raised a brow at her, standing up to match her gaze, “yeah? What kind of problem do you need my help with?”
“Both your crew and the Teiflings are heading to Baldur’s gate. My crew can’t accompany them so I was wondering if you would? I know you and Zevlor don’t get along but it would mean a lot if you helped them”
Aradin was disappointed that this was her request. His gut reaction was to say no, let the Teiflings fend for themselves. But her words made him second guess himself. Helping just to be nice? People don’t do that, especially for people they don’t like. Zevlor didn’t help his group when the goblins chased them back, only telling Aradin that they should have died instead of trying to live.
“Why do you do this?” Aradin asked.
“I told you I like helping?” Her brows raised.
“I mean, why do you help people that don’t like you. You’re a drow, I doubt the Teiflings or Druids were thrilled to have you running to their rescue. Hells, I was an ass to you so why are you helping me?” He gestured at himself to emphasize his point.
“I never had people want to help me when I struggled. It was just my mom and I, no one let us stay for long before running us out of town. No one wanted to help a half-drow. I don’t want to be like those people. If I can make the world just a little better, try to bring people together, maybe that wont happen to the next kid.” Her arms crossed over herself and she looked to the ground.
Aradin thought back to his own childhood. His parents weren’t around for long and he learned how to survive on the streets after they were gone. People rarely stopped to help a starving kid in Baldur’s Gate. Had he stopped to help any kids now that he was an adult? He was becoming the type of people he hated as a kid, so self focused and unable to see those struggling outside themselves.
“Fine, I’ll help get the Teiflings to Baldur’s Gate,” He finally answered. “But it Zevlor tries to punch me again, then I’m leaving him and his group behind.”
“Just don’t call him a foul blood and I think you’ll be good,” she playfully punched his arm, grinning up at him. “I have extra supplies your crew can use, some better armor and weapons.”
“You sure your crew will be fine if we take a bunch of their stuff?”
She gave him a reassuring smile, “they don’t need anything more than they can carry, they’ll understand. And thank you for agreeing to help, it means a lot and I know Zevlor and the Teiflings will appreciate it.”
“You convinced me. And thanks for the Nightsong info, I’ll get that wizard to cough up something.” Aradin reached out his hand for her to take, “would you like to stay here a little longer? You don’t get views like this in the city.”
She blushed and took his hand, “I’d like that.”
The two sat down together on the beach. The drow leaned her head against his shoulder and Aradin relaxed knowing she was feeling a similar way to him. He leaned into her, laying his head against hers. The two shared a quiet night there until they heard her crew calling out for her.
She sighed and stood up, his hand reached out to grab hers before she left, “thank you Aradin, I’ll see you in the morning.” She gave his hand a tight squeeze before walking back to camp. The owl bear cub and dog both woke up to follow her back.
Aradin waited a bit before leaving to join his own group. He found that Remira and Liam had already fallen asleep with Barth being the only one left awake.
Aradin nodded to Barth before curling up in his own sleeping bag.
“What are you doing with the drow?” Barth asked.
“Half-drow, I’ll tell you in the morning,” Aradin heard Barth chuckle before getting into his own sleeping bag.
“Whatever you say boss.”
The morning came far too quickly for Aradin’s liking and started off far too busy. From the Teiflings packing up their wagons to the druids clearing out the grove, it was all far too much. Aradin headed toward’s the other adventuring group to meet up with the Half-drow again. She created him with a big smile before pulling him over towards a traveling trunk. She pulled out some improved weapons along with armor. One of her companions stopped to chastise her about giving all their supplies away only for her to say they had more than enough.
The two set off to meet up with Aradin’s group and distribute the gear. Remira got an improved two handed bow and some bracers, Liam a sword and armor, and Barth a stronger shield.
“Oh before I forget,” she reached for her necklace and unhooked a silver pendant. “It’s enchanted to offer guidance, it will help when dealing with Zevlor.” She placed the pendant in his hand, letting her hand linger longer than necessary. With a quick squeeze she leaned forward and kissed his cheek, “good luck, I hope to see you again.” And she was off.
The feeling of her lips on his cheek lingered, he wanted to run after her and kiss her. He was knocked out of his fantasy by Barth slapping him on the shoulder.
“So you got some last night? Didn’t know Drow was your type.”
Aradin pushed Barth’s hand off him, “nothin like that happened.”
Remira laughed, “so she handed out gear for free?”
“She asked us to escort the Teiflings to Baldur’s Gate. The gear and some info on the nightsong is our payment.” Aradin explained.
Remira and Barth both looked exasperated at the thought of spending more time around the Teiflings but one look from Aradin got them heading over to the wagon train. Liam stayed besides Aradin, “so we’re helping the Teiflings out? What about what happened earlier?”
Aradin clasped Liam around the shoulder and began walking towards the wagons, “someone’s got to help them, might as well be us.”
Zevlor gave Aradin a curt nod as the two approached, “thank you for agreeing to help escort the wagons, we need all the swords we can get.”
“Don’t mention it, old man” Aradin and his crew helped load the last of the Teifling’s supplies into the wagons before pushing off to the mountain path. He looked back at the grove to try and catchable glimpse of the half drow. He saw a glimpse of her white hair before the tree line obscured her and her party. Aradin turned back to the road, he looked down at the silver pendant she had gifted him and felt the guiding energy from it.

The community reaction to Aradin is so weird to me but I think I know why most people actually don’t like him and it’s because he doesn’t have a moment of being a suck up to the player.
We meet him at his lowest point in the grove and then again in the lower city. He’s lost half his crew, feels responsible for their deaths, lost the Druid, and was almost locked out of the grove to die. He’s hurt, pissed, and not all together. We then have him fighting with Zevlor where Zevlor basically tells him “you should have died outside this safe haven”. And understandably that pisses Aradin off. Once he’s away from Zevlor, Aradin is much more calm, if the player is a Teifling he can apologize for using foul blood as an insult and is revealed that he doesn’t know much about teiflings. He gives us his contract and he just seems tired and done with everything. I wish we could have him help fight in the grove if the goblins attack.
The next time we meet him, he’s alone trying to get some recompense for his dead friends. We can assume that Remira, Barth, and Liam died because we never see them again and they’re never mentioned. Is it dumb that he tries to attack the player? Yes, especially when he hasn’t been leveled up at all. But it’s understandable because all he wants right now is some way to make the loss of his friends meaningful and not a complete disaster.
Aradin is similar to Rolan in that they’re both introduced as unpleasant characters. Aradin because of everything stated above and Rolan as a selfish guy. But because Rolan gets that character moment at Lorroakan’s tower, he’s suddenly a fan favorite and all his character faults are seen as fun quirks instead of deeply annoying features.
This is why I think Aradin is so hated in the fandom. He never had a moment where his character development is focused on the player’s actions and being nice to the player for that. We can never give him the loot for the nightsong, we can’t convince him out of it, all we can do is watch this adventurer fail and fall into disappear.
Players have a very self centered view of game worlds. When a character is nice to us we perceive them as good. When they are mean or even annoying, they’re seen as the worst ever. Most players don’t care to look past Aradin’s rough exterior because it doesn’t benefit them to try and understand his character beyond how his attitude is perceived.
Okay so hear me out..... (Aradin bg3)
I understand Aradin can be quite (no, is) unpleasant, but I genuinely need someone to depict him as what he truly is—a vulnerable, insecure young man, struggling.
I believe there's a depth to him beyond his exterior displayed in the Grove (and in act 3). He's simply struggling to cope after losing his closest companions.
It seems survival has been his sole focus, the reason he became a bandit/mercanary/sword for hire in the first place, instilling in him a somewhat defensive attitude toward the world, always wary of its potential to harm if one lets their guard down. That's why he is so hateful, so rude. It's him against the world.
What this man truly needs is affection and companionship, someone he can let his guard down around. Someone who can teach him how to be better.

Supportive Ketheric empathizing with Gortash after the lost of Durge. Two grieving widowers set on finishing this plan, drenched in sorrow over their dead spouse.
I know the joke is always I'm-over-it-and-I'm-too-tired-for-this-Kethric with Durgetash, but what about supportive Kethric? This man has pledged fealty to at least 3 different gods and turned his back on 2 of them. What about supportive Kethric who secretly LOVES that Durge and Gortash are defying their gods by being together. Supportive Kethric who is rooting for them to outwit their gods, and doing what he can to help them do it

Aradin is hot and I’m tired of people acting like he’s not.
I said I wanted to romance him on a Reddit thread and people were like “eww no” “I want to punch him” and the most insulting one “why not Art Cullagh, they have the same hair!”
You know Art? The guy in a coma for act 2? Totally comparable to Aradin imma right???
Aradin is such an interesting character that people unfairly hate on. You meet him on his two worst days. At the grove, he just saw his friends die, is almost locked out of the grove, can die, then has an old man acting all high and mighty like Aradin should have just died instead of running for safety. I’d be pissed too!
Is he racist against teiflings? Kind of. If you play as a Teifling you can push him on it and find out he thinks Teifling come from devils. He’ll even apologize to you! That’s a lot better than how the Druids treat the teiflings!
Second time you meet him he’s alone and we never see any of his crew again. So this guy has lost all his friends and is at the point where he’s desperate to try and make their deaths mean something. If he can get this money then his friends didn’t die for nothing.
And it sucks that your only options are to lie to him or kill him. He’s been through so much and I can’t give him a hug.
Basically Aradin is a sad wet cat that I am helpless but to love and defend against everyone. He is my beautiful baby boy and I will not replace him with coma art.

Orin gaslighting both of them trying to break them up only for the two to go, “we’re toxic together but we’d rather be toxic together than alone and miserable”
Worst thought - what if the Durge and Gortash thought they’d had a toxic romantic relationship with each other, but the whole time it was just Orin going back and forth between them THE WHOLE TIME
