Vol. 2, Book 5, Chapter 10 - Où il est expliqué comment Javert a fait buisson creux
DENNY, WAS THAT REALLY NECESSARY???
Okay, so when Javert thinks about how he’s almost caught Valjean, it sounds sort of sexual if you put your slash goggles on, but it’s mainly a hunting/animal metaphor:
Here’s Wilbour for a typical translation. You can read it as full of double entendres, but it’s not overtly gross.
Then he began to play. He enjoyed a ravishing and infernal moment; he let his man go before him, knowing that he had him, but desiring to put off as long as possible the moment of arresting him, delighting to feel that he was caught, and to see him free, fondly gazing upon him with the rapture of the spider who lets the fly buzz, or the cat which lets the mouse run. The paw and the talon find a monstrous pleasure in the quivering of the animal imprisoned in their grasp. What delight there is in this suffocation!
And then Denny. DENNY NO.
Then, with a demonic and sensual pleasure, he settled down to enjoy himself. He played his man knowing that he had him, deliberately postponing the climax, granting him a last illusion of freedom, relishing the situation like a spider with a fly buzzing in its web or a cat letting a mouse run between its paws - the ecstasy of watching those last struggles!
Denny! It says postponing the arrest, not the climax!! YOU DID THIS ON PURPOSE. D: D: D:
normally this is the part where i make some kind of caption that's funny or related to the video, but honestly i'm just so glad i got this done in time

I've just discovered your blog, and more specifically the Les Misérables based artworks you've done and...
I'm on my knees, your style is unexplainably appealing - such a delight to the eyes! The way you draw Javert and Valjean has me in a chokehold. I couldn't stop browsing through your works until I inevitably reached the end of the list.
You're an incredible artist, definitely an instant coup de cœur of mine.
I hope you'll have the nicest day/evening!
Omg, thank you so much for this sweet message!! It's been a while since I last drew any les mis, especially my fav Inspector Javert. Decided to warm up by drawing him, just to see what he'd look like... Again, thank you for the kind words, you're also an amazing artist. Can't wait to see more of your portraits!!!
LES MIS LETTERS IN ADAPTATION - Hindrances, LM 1.7.5 ( I miserabili 1964)
“Monsieur,” said the woman, “my boy tells me that you wish to hire a cabriolet.”
These simple words uttered by an old woman led by a child made the perspiration trickle down his limbs. He thought that he beheld the hand which had relaxed its grasp reappear in the darkness behind him, ready to seize him once more.
He answered:—
“Yes, my good woman; I am in search of a cabriolet which I can hire.”
And he hastened to add:—
“But there is none in the place.”
“Certainly there is,” said the old woman.
“Where?” interpolated the wheelwright.
“At my house,” replied the old woman.
He shuddered. The fatal hand had grasped him again.
