“No, paradoxes only happen if someone like me travels backwards in time and doesn’t know what they’re doing. Like Sarkhan. Speaking of, that’s a whole project for later… but no, Gaia wouldn’t let either of us into a plane where another version of us exists and is alive. This timeline is one I’ve been to before. I needed a few tries to find my original one after I met you. I sent word ahead with my sister, so they’re expecting us.”
Tumblr media
“Oh, and, uh… don’t worry too much about me suddenly having a sister. Only here, I think. She might be joining our crew if she’s ready.”

Jowi walked Mikan through the Omenpath, holding her hand and assuring her everything would be fine, so long as she held onto him, he could steer where they were going. He wanted her to meet his parents. Well, not exactly his parents, but a version of them. Turned out there was aversion of Mikan on his earth, so she couldn’t actually go there.
Mikan stayed close to Jowi, holding on tightly as he slowly guided her through the Omenpath. She'd never seen something like this before despite her experience with Magic.
"I hope they like me..." she mentioned nervously, looking around them. "I'm n-not very pretty, and I stutter a lot... Th-they might think I'm too stupid to b-be dating their s-son...."

As they exited the Omenpath, Jowi shook his head. “No.. they won’t judge you. I mean… these aren’t even my actual parents… just versions of them. I died a long time ago in this timeline, so… I’m sure they’ll be happy to just… see me happy, you know?”
Tumblr media
He paused, letting Mikan look around at the massive metropolis that they now stood in. Such a city would likely seem impossible compared to the stone and wood buildings of her home.
“So, I say that I’m dead here, but… I have met these versions of my parents before. When I was looking for my home I ended up on this timeline for a while.”

Jowi takes his chance to close in and trap Makoto in a cuddle while she is flustered, “I’m not really sure. I think in some cultures the wife’s name is the one taken, but, not my area of expertise.”

“No… I don’t think so. Sounds like… like my little brother, honestly. And just because it doesn’t bother you doesn’t make it okay for me to act that way.”

Childhood Enemies (AU starter for @phantasmalnightmare )
Junko had wished for something to make life more interesting. What she likely didn’t expect was for it to literally come crashing out of a construction site nearby, two bodies banging off of an excavator as they tumbled through the air, landing on the ground with a resounding THUD, kicking up a mass of dust.
As the cloud settled down, and people began gathering around, trying to see what happened, the smaller figure laid atop the other would rise, not standing, yet, but getting to its knees after surviving a drop from what must have been nearly 40 floors was certainly an impressive feat.
Tumblr media
The child didn’t speak, instead only making a sharp, furious noise as he drew breath. Covered in bruises, cuts, and scrapes, it was apparent he wasn’t in good shape before the fall. But now, after surviving an impossible drop, the child somehow still rose, still drew breath, still lived. In his eyes, even from a distance, burned an anger more primal than any present had seen before. It almost acted as a barrier, warding everyone else away, for fear of the feral child moning to life and attacking them next.

“He will.” Jowi emphasized, “I’ll probably be staying on Thunder Junction to make sure things go smoothly. It’s an uninhabited plane. And that means there’s no real government. As it stands, reputation buys you security there. Me and Aaron are currently among the more feared Planeswalkers after that show we put on fighting Atraxa. Goes even more so for me, given that I killed Vorinclex.”
Tumblr media
“But I’ll try and keep Aaron from getting too caught up in our work. Even if it’s some… mad science stuff with Ral. But he’s not the evil kind of mad scientist. Wouldn’t sneeze without clearance from Niv-Mizzet, and there aren’t many people I trust more than him.” Jowi explained, reminiscing about the city-plane of Ravnica again,
“Actually, I think a few of you would hit it off with old Niv. Ancient Dragon with one of the greatest scientific minds in the multiverse? Don’t tell me you’re not at least curious, Makoto.”
Moving in, Moving out (starter for @webbedphantom )
Jowi arrived at Leblanc, the first time he’d actually entered the building proper since meeting Aaron. No planeswalking, no climbing in through the window. Just a casual walk through the front door, where the rest of the Phantom Thieves had gathered, looking around,
Tumblr media
“Am I really the last one here? We weren’t even supposed to meet for like… 30 more minutes. You guys know I’m not just kidnapping him, right? He can come visit any time.”
He strolled over to the counter, taking the only available seat remaining in the small coffee shop. It’d been about a year since Phyrexia invaded. The rebuilding was mostly finished, and the multiverse was in need of new protectors with the Gatewatch dismantled. With the Omenpaths finally reconnecting Gaia-1 with the rest of the multiverse, Jowi had scoped out an uninhabited Plane for his new team to set up base on. Barren, and desert-like, but not at all uninhabitable, he had asked Aaron and a few others to join him on his newly acquired Skyship to act as a kind of multiplanar justice league. Today would be the day Aaron and the other who wanted to join him would be moving into the ship.

“I’m looking for Persona users. Bad stuff is coming.” Jowi replied, rather bluntly, “If that sentence doesn’t mean anything to you, then I’m sorry for interrupting your evening, and I would like to ask if you know where in Hokkaido Junpei is? That’s not very far by my standards.”
Tumblr media
“Oh, uh… I guess I should let you know that I got this address from the Kirijou Group. I went there for help first, but… I might be on my own as far as gathering together Persona users…”

The man at her door was... intimidating. He was far larger and taller than anyone she'd ever met before. And the expression on his face was serious. Usually, she'd be a little more fearful, defensive even. Her years of living on the streets of Port Island had made her very aware of her surroundings and who not to fuck with. But the intimidating aura coming off this man was not directed toward her, instead his facial expression seemed respectful and polite despite the serious gaze. But when he asked for Junpei, she tensed up.
"He's not home," She replied curtly. "He's away for a baseball game in Hokkaido." That was only a partial lie.
She shifted uncomfortably behind the door, peering at the man from between the gap. "Do you need something? Perhaps I could help instead."

“Because I can’t be! Not yet! I still have… so much more to do! So much more to learn before I can stand there… before I can be as good as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman! If I’m their equal…”
Tumblr media
“Then where do I go from there? Am I just… at the top? Alone, forever? Nothing left to improve, to learn? What would I have left if I’ve reached the end of the path? If there are no further heights to climb? Before, I had assurances that there would be someone stronger, Midoriya would always be stronger than me. But that’s changed. I’ve conquered every obstacle. I’ve climbed every mountain out in front of me. I’m not ready to give that up yet.”
“I… I don’t know.” He replied, “It’s just… I’ve spent my whole life… everything I’ve ever done, trying to chase after the ideals of the League, of my dad, of what it means to be a real hero. To do what’s right because it’s right, to help everyone, no matter how small…”
Tumblr media
“To think I’ve already made it to the top… that I’m considered worthy to stand next to Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman? How could I possibly live up to the expectations? To go straight from high school right into the biggest team on the planet?”
He held the pin in his hand, flipping it over a few times as he spoke, the cool metal momentarily distracting him from his conundrum.
“I… thanks. It means a lot that you’ve put up with me like this… waiting for me to graduate, being with me in the hospital when I’ve gotten hurt. I just… I’m afraid. What if I’m with the League so often we don’t get to see each other? I don’t think… I’m ready for that.”

Graduation (Open Starter)
Jowi sat, looking back over his shoulder one more time at UA. Not fully rebuilt yet, but enough for him and his class to have graduated and finished their final year. In his hand, he held an envelope, an invitation to the Hall of Justice back in the US. An invitation his father had gotten years ago, and turned down.
At the start of his time at UA, he’d have turned it down, too. But he’d changed. Seeing the way that the heroes and his classmates had inspired civilians around them, used that to inspire the people around them. It was clear to him, even as he accepted his graduation, just how much he still had to learn. None of his other classmates had gotten this invite. They all planned to head out and start their own agencies. The thought of joining such a team was probably in the back of their minds. Starteping your own agency had benefits, sure. You got your own hours, fewer restrictions, and full control of your merchandising and image rights.
But the Justice League… they were counted on to respond to threats anywhere and everywhere on earth, hell in the galaxy. Wherever the hardest fights and biggest bad guys were… the Justice League was there. When the second War broke out, they were off fighting some kind of God in space. As Jowi contemplated his decision, he looked up, “Oh, hey… sorry if I, uh… spaced out. How long you been there?”

“Well. Then you still need an oath to take before you can join. A reason why you keep watch. It’s a simple oath, only a sentence or two long, but it’s binding. For me, the oath was ‘For Peace And Justice, I keep watch.’ Yours can be longer, shorter, whatever you want. But I want you to think about it. You don’t have to answer immediately. Just think about the very core of the reason you want to keep watch.”
Tumblr media
“The reason why you fight is far more important than the act of actually fighting. Fight for what you truly care about and you eliminate the fear and hesitation in combat. That’s what my new Gatewatch needs.”
“You know… we aren’t going to be staying on this plane… we’re gonna be going to worlds where things are very different. Dinosaurs, ghosts, vampires, werewolves, zombies, giants, elves, fairies, and on a few planes, living trees that eat people.” He leaned back in his chair,
Tumblr media
“Now, I wanna make it clear, I’m not doubting your abilities to help or learn what you need to to help us. It’s gonna be a new experience for almost all of you, really. A massive culture shock, having to accept that your view of the universe was… horribly small. The concept alone that magic exists was too much for most people who applied, let alone the fact that there’s a good chance some of us die on the way. I just want you to know exactly what you’re getting into.”
