"Wait, were they hitting on you?" she asked with a smirk as she took a bite of her tasty and salty fried octopus. Connie was undoubtedly beautiful, but as far as she knew, she was already happily dating someone. "Honestly, frosted tips only work for a chosen few." She wasn't surprised that the trend was making a comeback, as most trends tend to do. Safi adjusted herself in her seat so she could face her friend and was eager to share some gossip. "He's taking the fall for Marty Hammacher over at the DA's office. He's so loyal that he's willing to throw away his entire career for him, even though Hammacher is involved in collusion and bribery in that mafioso case."
Tumblr media
"not enough times." connie replies, without delay. she twirls her beverage around in the martini glass. "i had to fend off some twenty-something year old with frosted tips. did i step back in time? i could of sworn this was twenty-twenty-four, not nineteen-ninety-four." the whole spiel about not being into men seemed like an invitation to them. "no, i didn't hear." she leans forward. finally, something interesting to talk about in this place.

"Sure," she said with a small nod, before gesturing for him to sit as she took a seat across from him in the large conference room. Milo Sanchez had gone missing and all attempts to track him down had led to a dead end. However, Safi had heard from a drunken police officer that he had been an informant for the police department for their cases, and had not been heard from since. "So...Milo Sanchez. I heard he helped you out with a major case not too long ago. What did you have him booked for that he had to weasel his way out of by helping you?" His mother had come in tears thinking that her son had been deported. He had been their sole breadwinner, and now she was risking deportation herself. "His family is looking for him, and no one has heard a word."

Gabe had finally been released from desk duty, but there was a part of him that worried a bit about being out in the field again. He’d been hurt and the injury had healed but the emotional damage was still there. He did miss being able to help other people though and as soon as he met with Safiyah all his tension he had washed away and he was like he’d never had been hurt those months ago. “ it’s really no problem” he noted as he stood to greet her. “ I’m alright as of right now. I try not to multitask like that when I’m working, but I appreciate that. You have the floor what did you need to discuss with me ?” He noted again before sitting back down @safiyahxabed

"On the pretense of a double life? Because I certainly did not see that coming." According to Jessica, Connor had been gone for two weeks. Presumably, on a business trip as he's done practically each month since they came off the show together. However, what didn't make sense to Safi, is what person would want to share a life with a buffoon like him? She certainly had her two cents and then bit her tongue as Jess was an adult very capable of making her own decisions. "I doubt it...she's gonna try and go for everything." And to think Safi spent all that money being a bridesmaid for that wedding. "Too tacky to ask for a reimbursement of that horrific dress?"
Tumblr media
Raising an eyebrow, Mari quickly shoved her phone in her pocket. The news intrigued her even though it was obvious. "Well, I think anyone could've seen that coming." It wasn't like it was a big secret how the two drifted. You would have to be completely blind to not see it. "Do you know when? Or did she just say she was filing?" Her next phone call would be for Jess but only if it was a done deal. "Do you think there would be a chance of her withdrawing her own filing?" @safiyahxabed

"I will be coming and staying this time around," Safi affirmed. Unfortunately, she had to bail on Alma the last time due to a big break in a case, which she received via text notification from her colleague. As much as she enjoyed people-watching at parties, Safi was incredibly enthusiastic about her job. However, her therapist had been highly encouraging her to work on a healthier work-life balance. So, Safiyah had decided to leave her work phone in her bag at home and planned to enjoy the free drinks and food and let her hair down for the night. "You're already hot, and I think you'll be even more unapproachable because peens are intimidated by me," she said with a small smirk. Men stumbled over their words when it came to the lawyer, and she loved every second of it. "But, of course, we'll make you fiercely unapproachable, and your suitors will simply have to salivate from afar!"
Tumblr media
"i couldn't see you!" alma grins out towards safiya, throwing her arms up in the air rather dramatically. the girl arrived just in time, the till not fully consulted so alma could run through the final purchase of the night before getting the hell out of here. "you better be coming, i can't be nigel no friends like last time." most of the girls at the last one was the same group of bitches that beat that dead horse of a rumour into the ground. if their little posse was there, she needed reinforcements. "i need help with makeup." she motions back to the shoulder bag behind the counter that held her to-go kit, "i want to look hot but completely unapproachable."

"I'm fine, I'm fine," she said, waving off his suggestion. Receiving assistance or aid from anyone was not something Safiyah received well. She would rather crawl along the Sahara desert floor to a water source on her own than take a sip of water handed to her by a stranger. The preservation and insistence to do things by her own will had been ingrained into her DNA. Her father got very irritated by it, but she always felt like she would never put herself in a position where her back was against a wall. Taking some long breaths, she listened to him, grateful for the distraction from her aching lungs. "Oh...what have you been in?" She wondered if she knew him because she certainly did not recognize him. "Do you want to star in a musical or create one?"

——- Looking at the woman for a moment, noting her laboured breathing and gently stepping close to her, easing into placing a hand on her back. ❝  maybe you should take a seat here and catch your breath. ❞ he suggested, motioning under the shade of the large tree before offering a friendly smile. ❝  actually, i'm an actor. i um — i also have a huge musical passion so, i'm mostly out to get away and maybe work on that. ❞ he explained, gently pointing at the guitar on his back with a slight chuckle. though photography was something he was interested in as more of a hobby, like cooking. career wise, music was a dream for him, just acting happened instead — however, he'd never give up on his dreams to get into music.

"I was almost tempted to take the mischievous cat home the other day," Safiyah chuckled. She had never met such a feisty feline in her life and was thoroughly amused, despite receiving a few scratches. She got along well with Mitzy, which was not the norm for most people who interacted with the cat. "I am quite hungry. I have been running around all day and only had a coffee and granola bar," the lawyer stated. Safiyah tended to skip meals quite often, and if it weren't for a colleague interrupting her for a lunch break, she could easily go through the majority of the day without eating much. "How was your day? What's going on in the life of Evelyn?" she asked.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
evelyn had always wondered why in the past ten years her life has been nothing but dreadful. while there were pockets of happiness, they were far outnumbered by the gloomy ones. all through that, the woman would still be naive in hopes of finding someone to be an authentic part of her journey back into self-confidence and fulfillment. she was eager to enterain the idea that safiyah would eventually become one of those people. she could certainly use it in conjunction with the poor choices she has made in her past. "i'm peachy," she created a short-length smile to her expression. "mitzy? oh - you know?" she pondered, "i think a family came in for a meet and greet earlier this week. not sure if it was solid. i work tomorrow - i can let you know! so, are you hungry or are you hangry?" she questioned, looking for a gauge as to how much food she anticipated they were going to order.

"I understand how you feel, but ultimately it's up to you to decide what to do. Your emotions are valid, but it's important not to get too caught up in them," Safi advised her friend, offering an outside perspective on the matter. Although she wasn't aware of all the details surrounding the relationship, she hoped her words would help her friend make the best decision for herself. Safi was determined to make sure her girlfriends didn't get too hung up on anyone. "Hey, did you hear that the smoothie place has new spring flavors for drinks and bowls?" she asked with a smile. "I'll grab my things and meet you out front in five!"
Tumblr media
"Yeah, I know what I should do." And yet, she hadn't. She couldn't even say why, she'd already blocked them on every other social media account she had. The only things left were their Instagram and their actual cell. There was just a finality to it that Tati had yet to really accept. "I mean, probably not, but..." She can't even finish the sentence. To go from celebrating accomplishments to being thrust in the dark cold turkey killed more than anything. At the mention of a drink, Tati nodded, already undoing her wraps. "Yeah, a drink sounds good. Maybe something not alcoholic? I don't think it'll do me any favors."

"Wow, what a way to end the workday," Safiyah chuckled as she walked along the sidewalk, watching the first fire truck and ambulance depart. "How often do you receive these types of calls?" Safiyah had been on a client call when the fire alarms went off in the building. An intern had placed a chicken sandwich with an aluminum insulation lining in the microwave, causing it to catch on fire. The whole thing could have been managed with a fire extinguisher, but the intern pulled the alarm and screamed "fire" on the south wing of the building to ensure everyone's safety. "Thank you for being such a hero...can I buy you a drink at Sea Shanty in fifteen minutes?" she offered. It was the least they could do for the pseudo-false alarm and the oversight of their intern.

Safiyah was excited to spend more time with Evelyn beyond their daily tasks of feeding and bathing animals. She found Evelyn to be a kind-hearted individual who, like herself, was trying to navigate through life. Safiyah had a knack for connecting with people who radiated positive energy and had the potential to make a difference in the world. She enjoyed empowering others to bring out their best selves, a skill she developed in her mid-twenties through personal experience. If she mastered it, surely others could as well. "Hey!" Safiyah exclaimed as she joined Evelyn in the booth with a smile. "How are you doing? Has Mitzy been adopted yet?"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
evelyn had been eager to meet safi outside of the constraints of the rescue walls. not that it was a bad place to volunteer, but that she felt more comfortable to connect to others not in her place of employment. especially when there was a probably of crossing boundaries. her walls were still high, wrapped in barbed wire, and came equipped with an electrocution option; but something told her to test the waters when it came to safi. the other woman screamed healer and that, truthfully, allowed evelyn to breathe some fresh air.
evelyn had gotten contact information while working one day and made plans to connect with safi. she was sitting patiently at a small two-seat table inside fired up pizzeria. she could have suggested that they meet at a bar around town, but that implied loud noises and unable to have much conversation. she then thought about going for coffee but, being a barista, the last thing she wanted was to have another day where she smelled like coffee. so, pizza seemed like a logical decision. hearing the bells chime every time the door opened, evelyn's eyes beamed wider the moment that they locked on who she had been waiting for. this was an opportunity to see if her intuition was about to prove her wrong, yet again, or give her a sense of hope. "hi," she spoke, adding a few fingers waving. || @safiyahxabed

Closed with Maura (@maura-cortes) at Safi's home.
Keeping up with the likes of Maura as they bar-hopped and danced around Aurora Bay this evening was like running in a marathon. She was so utterly flamboyant and attracted the masses to her like a moth to a flame. It was captivating to watch and she didn't mind partaking alongside her fellow Latina. However, with all the drinks they'd gotten through the batting of eyelashes and flirtatious comments, the munchies were at an all-time high. Picking up some cheesy bread, Safi had brought out some cookies and other snacks for them to join on her back porch at one in the morning. "Okay…so are you gonna call any of those guys who gave you their number?" she asked as she tossed some jelly beans in her mouth.

"Okay, you have the rest of your life to snap back if you feel inclined. No one can come at you, especially considering you gave birth to a whole human being!" If someone did, Safi had no issues taking out her hunting crossbow and shooting them in the ass with a nice arrow. The societal pressures on women to get back to their former bodies were exhausting, especially the patriarchal monologue. As far as the lawyer was concerned, it was a bunch of bullshit. Kids weren't really in her cards, but she adored them. "Not too bad. I got some errands done. I talked my cousin off a ledge, and now I get to enjoy some delicious food with you!" She smiled as she ordered herself a cocktail and an order of chips, guacamole, and queso to start them off. "How is dad doing? I can only imagine Ryen has already got her little finger wrapped around him."

Looking up as she heard the familiar voice Sloane broke out into a smile as she saw Safi, someone who was what she’d consider a ‘grown up’ friend in that she had a grown up job. Not to mention when she’d been fired she’d not taken any of the bullshit the press was feeding everyone even if Sloane refused to properly explain what was going on - so her friendship was important to the redhead. Which seemed to be a mutual thing. “Gorgeous isn’t the word I’d use, maybe slowly looking more normal would be more fitting.” She replied with a roll of her eyes, standing up so she could give the other a quick hug. “Really? You’re too sweet to me, see this is why I made the effort put make up on for this lunch. Even though I had to do it while feeding a newborn who then proceeded to scream the house down for like forty five minutes so it was an eventful morning. How about yours? Oh thanks for agreeing to meet here by the way - i've been craving this guac like everyday since she was born. Poor Axel has been sent on so many missions to pick some up."

Closed with Stevie (@steviesharp) in downtown Aurora Bay.
"Oh my goodness!" she exclaimed in shock. Safi was fond of Stevie. It was pure luck that she ended up in the cosmetologist's chair. Since then, she had been a regular customer of the young blonde. Stevie was smart, beautiful, and incredibly easy to talk to. Safi enjoyed spending time with her, much like having a little sister that she never had. During a workday, she texted Stevie to see if she was free for lunch, and the two met up at one of the several food trucks by the beach. "I can't believe it! People have no personal shame anymore," she said shaking her head in dismay. "Who does that? The amount of secondhand embarrassment I'm feeling right now is unreal."

"I don't think you can truly comprehend how excited I was to hear that you were going to be in Aurora Bay!" she chuckled as she poured the popcorn into the bowl. A mixture of popcorn, pretzels, and a variety of M&Ms was her go-to concoction for movie night. Safiyah had met Lennon through a mutual friend, Sabrina. Through her regular visits to San Diego, she got to meet the fabulous brunette. Their energy and spirit were captivating and Safi was happy to have another friend in town. "How've you been adjusting and everything?"

"Fuck the patriarchy!" she cheered to her friend before taking a sip from her glass of wine. Safiyah had just been ranting at the absurdity of one of the judges who was nothing more than a misogynistic pig. There was nothing more unnerving than an old white man trying to mansplain a concept to her in a very condescending way. Being a judge was certainly not the trajectory she intended to go down in her career with law, but she would happily oust that narcissist. "Anyways, enough about my week…how was yours?"

"Hello detective, I'm sorry for keeping you waiting. Thank you for coming," Safiyah greeted the detective with a smile as she entered the conference room. She had a love-hate relationship with the local police force, as they could be both a great asset and a pain depending on the situation. However, she was not here to question their duty to serve the public, but rather to gather information to advance the cases she was working on. "Would you like something to eat or drink? We might be here for a while. I wanted to discuss Milo Sanchez with you."

Closed with Betty (@bettyxellsworth) in downtown Aurora Bay.
"Thank you for taking time to chat with me. I have a quick pitch and will be sure to let you on with your day." Safi has been approached by an investor and a nonprofit organization after learning about one of her former client's cases. The client had established a good relationship with this particular nonprofit and was working towards providing housing and job opportunities for others who are in a similar situation.
This is why Safi is now approaching Betty. She heard about their expertise in flipping and restoring homes and was hoping they would lend a hand with this potential project. "As you may be aware, the housing market is rather absurd, but we're looking at some properties and hoping to convert them into living spaces to help transition people. Do you think you could assist with this project or perhaps act as a consultant?"
