I went all out with this piece, larger than I usually do with the layered vellum pieces (although not the largest I’ve ever done), lots of layers (5 total which is about the max before that farthest back get totally washed out), and the most detailed I’ve done (I usually stick to solid silhouettes). All said and done it was WORTH it! I’m so pleased with how this turned out! San Josef Bay, the northwestern tip of Vancouver Island. It’s views are iconic and I wish I could say I’ve personally been here but I have not! Another loose painting I finished the other day...I really love these colours 😍 I worked on these last two pieces at the same time which is unique for me. I like to work on one piece at a time until completion but with the use of retarders (to increase my blending time) and glazes (for multiple subtle layers) there was a fair amount of drying time required so I’d switch back and forth and let a layer dry while I worked on the other. It was really a nice way to work, but for me I think it only worked that they were similar so I didn’t have to change my mindset or techniques... Decided I need to get a little loose with some paint and try and shake off a motivation slump I’ve been struggling in, I’ve had lots of good ideas and inspiration but just didn’t feel like working on anything. I didn’t want to have much expectation on how these paintings would turn out, just let it flow and come out however felt best. I managed to finish this and another small one yesterday (I think...trying not to get stuck adding tons of details and controlling the outcome too much).
