Headcannon that all the vessels are mostly non verbal and communicate through their mannerisms. They can speak but it hurts, sleep changes how the vessels work in many ways including their body, So they prefer to speak to each other in an almost telepathic way via sleep.

i just thought of aether, when he fell asleep dreaming of fireflies. i imagine the ghost of dewdrop sitting by him and just watching over him while he slept, probably petting his head softly ;_;

aether mumbles in his sleep saying...

my firefly...

In the summer, Aether will sit under Dew's tree with a pained smile on his face. The late sunsets were always his favorite. He'll close his eyes and remember the way Dew would sparkle in the fading twilight. When he opens his eyes, he's greeted by a faint buzzing, one that makes his heart ache.

When Aether looks up, Dewdrop's leaves are surrounded by fireflies.

He sleeps well that night.
