All I Want for Christmas is You

When Nancy comes home unexpectedly for Christmas from her internship at a Boston Detective agency to no room at the house on River Heights, Ace steps up and offers her a place to stay. Which is great for somewhere to sleep, but terrible for the feelings for him she's been desperately trying to repress. Cue longing, mistletoe, and a whole lot of Christmas spirit.

Or: We hired someone from an elder care agency to live in my grandparents' home and help them out, but she quit after one night because she says the house is haunted. Update: the person we hired to replace her says she saw the ghost but isn't afraid of it, so we're good.

Not to be rude, but Nancy really doesn’t have time for this.

She has homework to finish for her class this afternoon, she’s already wildly late for an opening shift at the Claw, and someone’s beloved pet ferret is still running loose in Horsehoe Bay.

The last thing she needs is this girl sobbing to her about—of all things—a ghost in Nancy’s grandmother’s house.

“I’m telling you, I am not spending another night—another minute—in that place!”

Nancy tries to center herself with a deep breath. “Look,” she says. “I know it’s kind of a—um, a spooky house—” she starts, but Isabel cuts her off with an angry shake of her head.

“I am not crazy! And I’m not just scared of shadows!”

“Of course not,” Nancy says, trying to be soothing. “I just meant—”

“I’m sorry, but if you want someone to spend the night with a fucking ghost, you do it.”
