Rainy Day at the Ings
After a fish and chip lunch, myself and fellow birder Pete had a wander to walk off lunch. The weather wasn't brilliant so we headed off for Main Bay where we had cover in the form of Bob Dickens Hide.
Tumblr media
Looking from the hide it was clear there wasn't much to see, apart from lots of Mute Swans, Coots and both Canada and Greylag Geese. On the wooden posts in the lake were at least 8 Cormorants.
Tumblr media
House Martins swooped across the lake whilst a group of Jackdaws mobbed a Red Kite which soared over the nearby fields. Our attention was then caught by an adult Great-crested Grebe which swam past the hide with a youngster following behind.
Tumblr media
Listening to the squacks from the geese and the rain drops as they hit the ground was very relaxing. That was until Pete shouted "Treecreeper" and pointed to a nearby tree just as the little bird scooted around the back. Whilst a robin sat perched at the bottom showing just how wet the day was.
Tumblr media
Other birds to note were, Shovelers, Gadwalls, Pochards, Tufted Ducks, Little Grebes, Moorhens, Herring, Lesser Black-backed and Black-headed Gulls, Grey Herons and a Little Egret.
As the afternoon was nearing to an end we decided to have a stroll back to the visitor's center to get a coffee before it closed and to note down our very few sightings. So here's from me (in the orange hat) and Pete (in the cap) until next time.
