what good is their defiance when whumper kicks their legs out from under them, leaving them on their hands and knees?

The blood on the concrete is their own and whumper kicks them when they’re down.

“Do you think I’d forgotten?” Whumper smiles and leans down. “Do you think I’d forgotten how to make you bleed?”

hand-shaped bruises. bracelets of finger imprints on wrists, branded on shoulders or throats or hips. the lack of plausible deniability. the way anyone seeing it can tell something Happened. someone who cares sees it and there’s no hiding the ongoing whump anymore. the photographs memorializing it. the moment a sleeve slips and a friend or coworker or roommate asks “whoa, what happened?”

just. the obviousness of it. the distinctness of it. hand-shaped bruises my beloved.

A classic:

Whumpee who stays defiant and refuses to break while being tortured.

Then Whumper drags in a loved one and began to threaten them, maybe even outright torture them.

Panic and fear ensues on Whumpee's end.

“Let’s try this again,” said Whumper, crouching so they were eye level with Whumpee. “You may call me ‘Sir’, or you may call me ‘Master’. Those are your only choices.”

Whumper reached out and removed the gag, letting it dangle from their fingers. Whumpee fought the urge to work the soreness out of their jaw, flexing their hands where they were tied behind their back. “Now,” said Whumper, “what do you call me?”

Whumpee smiled. “An asshole.”

a whumpee who is not just protective of their friend who is/was a fellow whumpee, but overprotective to the point of being self-sacrificial.

during their imprisonment, taking every ounce of whumper's wrath in the vain hope that whumpee 2 will make it out unharmed. and when whumpee 2 is inevitably injured, tending to them before their own injuries.

when the rescuers come, refusing to leave whumpee 2's side as they're put on a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance. the medics have to sedate them to give them the medical attention they need.

in the hospital, insisting on visiting whumpee 2's room as often as the nurses will let them. when they're put on bedrest, sneaking out of their room, tearing out their IVs in the process.

when they're sent to the psych ward for their trauma, refusing to eat or speak until they can see whumpee 2 again. and when the staff refuse a visit, attempting to escape.

hating the drugs whumper gave them, the painkillers the doctors give them, refusing anything that could help them relax, because it means not being on alert for threats.

when they finally return to their homes, not knowing how to return to a "normal" life. what purpose do they have, if not to keep whumpee 2 safe?

just... whumpee dealing with the constant fear that if they're not there to protect them, whumpee 2 will get hurt.

and for bonus points... whumpee 2 who feels immeasurable guilt for all of this. they didn't ask for whumpee to sacrifice themself. they can see how much they're hurting. so whenever they're able to, they try to do the same for whumpee. one of them has to make it out okay, right?

maybe you aren't evolved enough to appreciate female characters who are terrible people but I am. Let women be annoying, self obsessed, entitled, and as much of an asshole as their male counterparts.
