CHEVRON A DAY KEEPS THE STYLIST AWAY
Over the past few months, I have stumbled across several articles expressing the author’s pleasure at the fashion world adopting a more season-less color palette. People now wear greens and reds in the winter. I myself have noticed that with one of my best friends L. She wears whatever color she wants whenever she wants. Just the other day, we were dancing to G.U.Y. by Lady Gaga (one of my ‘Ill-dance-to-it’ songs) and she was wearing large graphic floral print pants. In the middle of January! Now, having always been obsessed with bright color and pattern that pop, I guess I've now become one of those authors (do I dare apply such a lofty term to myself) who raves about color in the winter.
Earlier this week, my mother (of all people) sent me a link to a wonderful video on the New York Times by Bill Cunningham called Stripes of All Sizes. It is a delightful video that quickly and elegantly discusses the topic of color on winter outerwear in New York City. See the video here.

ART IN THE NAME OF FASHION ILLUSTRATION 1/18/15
I am not at all prone to spewing ‘inspirational quotes’ because most of them are overused and, to be frank, rather tired. However, I do agree with the ones that say that the future is what we make of it and that the only way to get where we want to be is to just take that first step.
I want to design clothes when I grow up (if that ever happens). I have spent years dreaming about being paid to let my imagination run wild and create fabulous new clothes for everyone! Therefore, I followed my own advice and took the first step. I met with a professor at the local community college to learn more about their Fashion Marketing degree. Ultimately, I decided it wasn’t for me but I did start applying to other four year design schools here in the Midwest. Who knew what a rush it is to finally start moving towards what I have wanted for over a decade!
I am still in the preliminary stages of applying to schools so no matter what happens, design school is still at least one semester and a summer off in the future. In the mean time, I have tasked myself with learning as much as I can about fashion illustration before I get thrown into the thick of it all. My drawing is still touch-and-go but it’s definitely improving (YAY). To further my illustration, I have registered for some art classes next semester (which starts on the day after next so I suppose it is really this semester). Hopefully, acquiring some more basic drawing skills will assist in taking my clothing design to the next level. Maybe, if I feel that my drawings are good enough to be dropped into the internet for everyone to see, I’ll post a couple drawings here.

CHUNKY KNITS! 1/15/15
Who doesn't love a good, chunky, knit sweater? I sure do. There is something about wearing a soft, lumpy (but still fashionable) cardigan that makes me feel truly amazing.
I am one of those people who is always too warm. This means that, despite the cold Wisconsin winters, I still venture out into the snow with only a sweater and scarf. When I do this I wear a cardigan, preferably one knit in a chunky, warm, wool. Therefore, I am always excited when a designer shows exciting knitwear. Sibling did exactly this during their menswear show in London last week when they showed a chunky coat knit in bright pink (see coat here). While I won’t wear that exact coat and suspect that very few people would, I nevertheless deeply enjoyed the combination of color and chunky knitting.
Hopefully, knitwear stays chunky and bright for a while to come.

Holidays and Stress Knitting.
I am a 'stress knitter'. I have no clue if that's already a thing but it is now. I knit when stressed and, as my stress levels go up, my needle size gets smaller. This Christmas break, I have dropped from size 8 needles and washcloths to size 2.5 needles and socks. I am knitting socks! I never in a million years thought that I would be knitting socks! Spending the holidays with family causes some people to drink. Something I can't do. Partly cause I am not 21, and partly because I can't un-cramp my hands enough to hold a cup after knitting socks for 6 hours straight.
