Also, since we saw how Negan was totally chill with killing Carl, can we at least all agree that TELEVISION Negan 100% does not care if kids die? Or, as Oceanside had put it “boys over the age of ten”. I mean Negan even says he LIKES Carl and was going to try to do it in one hit so Carl wouldn’t suffer, so can you imagine how he would feel with someone Carl’s age that Negan doesn’t give a shit about? The boy at the Hilltop who was sixteen was beaten to death and Jesus said that the man who did it ‘needed us to know who he was right off the bat’ which is obvious pun about Lucille. Not to mention all the boys who were 10 years and older who were killed at Oceanside. There’s too many lives lost that Negan wouldn’t know about this? And if he did and he would put a stop to it, so why would they still kill kids behind his back in risk of being punished? And if he doesn’t like it, then why would he try to kill Carl himself, who is obviously at LEAST 13.

People thought Negan wanting to find/take Maggie was creepy and that his reaction to her actually being alive was comical. While yes, both things were creepy and hilarious in different instances, there’s a legitimate reason on why he did such things and felt the way he did. But because I am horrible with explanations, I’m going to do it in a very horrendous and blunt fashion.

Negan didn’t want to find and take Maggie back to Sanctuary just to fuck her and make her one of his wives; I firmly believe that he would attempt to recruit her, honestly. Negan wanted to take her back to Sanctuary for one reason and for one reason only: to prevent a revolution from happening. It would be a way to assure that she wouldn’t attempt to fight back against him and to rally a crowd of warriors against him and The Saviors.

One might call bullshit on this, because he didn’t do this to Rosita. In fact, when she attempted to shoot Negan in later episodes, it most definitely surprised him. But during the line up that night, Negan figured out A LOT of things. He figured out who was dating who, just from reactions, and he also found out who was related to one another ( like him figuring out Carl and Rick were father and son ). Negan knows things just by body language and eye contact and reactions. I think this is also how he was able to single out Daryl because of Rick’s reaction/look on his face when Daryl went up to punch Negan.

When Negan was taunting Rosita, I think he believed her to be weak, in the way of, she tried looking away from the bat and from Negan. In fact he had to force her to look at it all. The fact that she then looked by his command gave off a sense of control over her. I DO NOT BELIEVE ROSITA IS WEAK AS A CHARACTER BUT I BELIEVE NEGAN THOUGHT SHE WAS. And I also understand why she didn’t look at him, I’m not trying to dismiss Rosita’s emotions at all, but I think how she acted played a big part in it.

Maggie on the other hand, from what I recall, never looked away from Glenn’s beating. Of course she cried and there were moments where she looked away in disgust, but overall, she watched it. And early on, Glenn reacted dramatically ( rightfully so ) to Negan wanting to kill Maggie because she ‘looked like shit’ and wanted to put her out of her misery. So I believe Negan had sensed a real and strong connection, that they were beyond just a couple, that they were soul mates ( not to sound cheesy but it’s true ) which in turn I think created a situation for itself in Negan’s mind.

I’m not saying Negan is all knowing and all powerful, because he’s not, in fact while he is extremely smart, he’s also a fucking moron. But I think the line up night was a BIG night for him to see a lot and to form certain concepts and scenarios that could prove to be a big problem in the future ( which he was right about ) and even when they showed him ‘Maggie’s grave’ in a later episode, he still didn’t really believe them.

So which is why he was extremely surprised when she turned up this finale. Because, hell, what he feared actually ended up being true. There was the widow with guns a’blazing and she had an army with her, as he suspected would happen. And of course it’s harder to control people when you have someone within that crowd that has a vendetta against you because you murdered their fucking spouse.
