 clark’s doing that thing again where he tries to pacify a problem by pretending both sides are evened out, but kon knows better. being selfless comes with sacrifice but being the best we can be is also a personal responsibility. just because he’s in a disguise doesn’t mean it’s okay for people to treat him like, like…

“telling yourself you’re okay with something that sucks, doesn’t mean it doesn’t suck!”

                “YOU’RE RIGHT,” CLARK replied. “You’re completely right. But I’m making choices here about how I want people to see me. When I was younger, before Superman was even a name, I was just me all the time, and there were people who were suspicious. When people don’t think of me at all, or think less of me, it makes my job easier, and keeps people around me safer. So I WANT people to do that.” He shrugged, trying to get Kon to smile, just a little, with his own winning smile. “It does suck, but it’d suck more if people found out who I was by looking too closely.”

“even people who are doing their job shouldn’t be treated like, i dunno, i’d say cattle but they all get treated pretty nicely on the farm.” and it’s not like kon has a vendetta against perry, the man is pretty chummy with him when he’s superboy, but… 

god, too many people at the daily planet are rude.

“if clark kent is too scared to stand up for himself, i don’t see why it’s such a big deal for someone else to do it.” kon says, with an irritated shrug. being stuck here pretending to be a civilian doesn’t help his mood.

“isn’t that superman’s message? there’s a freakin’ superman picture on the wall here!”

               “SUPERMAN IS SUPPOSED to be about truth and justice,” Clark replied, looking at the photograph on the wall. Jimmy had taken a beautiful shot .—there was no question about it — but he’d never rid himself fully of how weird it was to see himself on the wall at work. “But I’m not being treated unjustly, because I’m okay with Perry thinking less of me. It helps me keep my job.” He put a hand on Kon’s shoulder and gave him a gentle, reassuring squeeze. “I love you. I love that you want to stand up for me.”
