This is supposed to be a place to motivate me to do what the title promises - and help me to reach the ultimate goal: study at my dream university
Backpack shopping can be so overwhelming; you want to find one that will last you for years without spending a fortune on it. Not only that, but it can be so confusing to sort through what you actually need and what you don’t!
the scale
A general idea of features to look for in a school bag:
30-35 liters, enough to hold supplies for ~5 classes, plus lunch.
Outer pockets for water bottles, to stay hydrated and organized throughout the day.
Interior sleeve for a laptop, so that you don’t have to worry about scratches or damage.
Padded straps, to save your back from heavy textbooks.
Multiple color options, to make sure it’s perfect for you.
standard backpack
It’s a classic for a reason. Good on your back with plenty of room for everything you need. Perfect for basically every situation.
rolling bag
Good if you have serious back problems and a school with elevators, but otherwise you’re best steering clear of this one. They has a geeky reputation, and not in a good way. Not to mention if you ever have to actually wear it the weight of the wheels will be way too much.
messenger/laptop bag
They’re convenient for grabbing things out of while you’re wearing it, and typically pretty stylish. The downside? They’ll kill your shoulder fast. Best for short walks with light loads.
tote
Similar to messenger bags, they’re cute and convenient but easy to overload. Good for days when you just need a notebook and some pens but will be running straight to work or the gym.
popular options
Fjallraven Kanken, Classic
Features: 1/5
Price: $$$
Comment: This backpack is a study blogger staple. Everywhere you look online you see it, so how does it stack up? Not too well, surprisingly. It’s small, at 16l, and doesn’t come standard with a laptop sleeve, outer pockets for water bottles, or padded sleeves. Where it shines is its whopping number of color options: forty seven. There are other options, like the Kanken Big or Kanken Laptop that work out some of these kinks, but the classic seems mostly suited to school children and those with very light class loads.
North Face Borealis
Features: 4/5
Price: $$$
Comment: I’ve had a North Face (of a discontinued style) for years. They’re durable and easy on your back. At 25 liters, the Borealis just misses the 5/5 mark. If you’re looking for a durable bag with tons of color options (27 to be exact) and don’t mind the smaller size, this is a good option.
Jansport, Big Student
Features: 4/5
Price: $
Comment: Jansports are classic student bags. They’re cheap and roomy, and hit almost all of the marks. If you’re looking for an inexpensive and functional bag, this is a good place to start.
LL Bean, Super Deluxe Book Pack
Features: 4.5/5
Price: $$
Comment: This bag is one that’s been raved about for its durability and utility. It get’s half a point for actually being over 35l, which is not a bad thing if you have a lot to haul around. It only comes in four colors, but if you’re looking for function over form you really can’t go wrong with this one.
Herschel, Classic
Features: 2/5
Price: $
Comment: Another stylish option, Herschel bags have become very popular in the past few years. Like the Kanken, the classic option doesn’t have many features from my list, but there are other variations that may bring you closer to what you’re looking for. At $45 it’s one of the cheaper options, so it’s not to be overlooked if you need a smaller bag without any frills.
No two students are the same, so what works for one might not work for another; do some research and look at bags in person to get an idea of what features are important to you!
thursday, 28 december — studying for finals and journaling, trying my best to enjoy the little things and start living without over thinking for everything.
Literally do your work as soon as you know it exists. If you get homework, do it during your free or when you get home or on the train if you really want to, on the day you get it. Just got set an assignment? Get the draft done that weekend. It doesn’t have to be amazing and absolutely ready to send in, it just needs to exist. Just got sent an email? Reply when you see it. If you’re not sure how to response to it, write Dear (), leave a gap and then write Regards () and keep that in your drafts. Set a reminder on your computer or write the reminder on a sticky note that you’ve got that sitting in your drafts and you need to send it off in the next 24 hours. Need to clean your room? Don’t spend time thinking or planning how you’re going to clean it or how you’re going to change up the space in the process, just pick stuff up and put it where it should be until everything’s in order. Done. Seriously dude, when a task arises as an issue, tackle it as soon as you realise it exists. Remember, it doesn’t need to be amazing it just needs to be done. So, when the due date of the task creeps closer, you can go back, work with what you have and make it the quality you want it to be.
11.1.15 | 9:14pm: here’s a part 2 of my desk decor/inspo post cause my last one got pretty popular! I’m in love with these and I hope they help you out!
It’s reading week but I went to our lecture hall anyways to study - it’s quiet and warm here and the room has big windows! After this, I have choir in the afternoon and some books to read for my Romantic Literature class.
01.07.18 • i know i should be giving myself more of a break before i start my summer reading but it’s weird going from intense work at uni to nothing, so i made some notes on immunology today 📝
1. You’re self conscious about smelling bad when commuting home from uni
2. You think that talking about gross anatomy and pathology makes for appropriate dinner conversation
3. The first thing people say to you is, “You must like animals huh?”
4. People ask you for advice on their pet and all the conversation ever leads to is you saying “Hmmm, I am not sure, better take it to your vet”
5. You are used to being forever behind in your uni work
6. You don’t pat peoples pets anymore…you palpate them
7. People look over your shoulder to have a sneak at what you’re reading they wish they hadn’t (haha, especially awkward when it is reproductive anatomy)
8. You feel the need to understand medical shows
9. You’re uni notes are covered in strange smudges….red, brown, green
10. You need to wash your lab coat separately from your other clothes (never had that issue after physics pracs XD)
Views from the 23rd floor ft. Dreary winter weather! Trying to cram in as much studying as I can before the sun sets…I live super far up north so I don’t get as much day light as I’d like haha. Today’s todo list involves biochem enzyme assay prep for tomorrow’s lab session, two atomic physics assignments, and some drug analytics notes 🔬happy studying, I’ve only had this blog for a few days, but thanks for the followers already! Happy Thursday loves💓
