Anyway, hello! For those unacquainted: my name is Sea and I have a habit of taking on far too many community projects. This is one of my character question drives, launched 4/24, to encourage people to talk about their FFXIV WoL's, OC's and any character in between. 💫

What is a character drive, Sea?

They want a monster? YOU'LL GIVE THEM A MONSTER! If Silvaineaux were ever to have a villain arc it would be because he had finally been pushed too far and snapped so I think this fits.

Duality

You have a constant inner struggle between right and wrong. There is a side of you that does not want to be doing what you are doing in the slightest, but once you’ve tasted the forbidden fruit and done something wrong, you’re hungry for more. Perhaps this evil side of you takes shape as simply talking to yourself, a sort of Jekyll and Hyde split, or perhaps its voice is backed up by a demon within you, a parasite that whispers temptations, or a monster that your body reshapes itself into when your own desires become too great. Whatever the case, you take great care to keep the evil within a closely guarded secret. Nobody can know, lest the monster you are take complete control.

Considering Severine's backstory, what she experienced as a child and the ongoing struggles she has coming to terms with what was done when she wasn't in control of herself... yeah I'd say this is pretty appropriate! tagging @dragons-ire @the-hawkeyes @houserosaire and you!

𝑵 𝑶 𝑴 𝑶 𝑹 𝑨 𝑳 𝑪 𝑶 𝑴 𝑷 𝑨 𝑺 𝑺 :

You are cold, analytical, and you strive to be as objective as a person of flesh and blood can be. Either don't understand the concepts of good and evil, or you understand it perfectly and think it's a load of bull. Some may call you selfish, some may call you unfeeling, but you're just doing what you believe will yield the best results, plain and simple. Why bother with petty ideals of right or wrong when you can do what will actively help those you give a fuck about? Your goals may be selfish or noble or anything in between, but you will not let anyone make you feel like garbage for going after them. You couldn't care less about what people brand you as. You just care about getting shit done by any means necessary.

I tried to argue some points in the above paragraph at first... but the more I sit here and think about it, the more I realize this result is actually incredibly accurate for her character. Especially when I am frequently reminding my roleplay partners of the fact Blink does not consider herself to be a good person, nor does she portray herself as giving a fuck about being a good person.

At the same time I struggle with the idea of her having no moral compass. Because she does have one, it can just be incredibly misguided. Blink is absolutely an analytical person. Logic governs her. Given a fight between logic and feeling, logic will almost always win out. And she will use this method to fiercely protect those in her life she cares about.

Does she have a kill count? Absolutely. Does it mean she experienced any joy in taking those lives? Absolutely not. It was born of what felt like necessity for her and she'd do it all again to keep the important people in her life safe.
