I don't follow any GO meta except what you post, so I'm wondering: has anyone gone into detail about how the Final 15 reverses Crowley and Aziraphale's roles from the rest of season 2?
Specifically, the whole season there's a disconnect because Crowley is desperately trying to protect Aziraphale while Aziraphale is focused on their relationship and taking steps to make it clear they're ~together~. Then, of course, it switches to Aziraphale willing to do anything to protect Crowley while Crowley finally works up the nerve to confess.
I just think that's neat.
Augh. You're right and that's so chewy. Crowley spends the season on edge, because he feels the danger they're in, but he thinks after the whole Gabriel situation is resolved they'll be (relatively) in the clear. Aziraphale though, he doesn't feel that this situation is any more dangerous than normal. He doesn't know hell's part in this and he doesn't fear heaven—or, that's not quite right. Aziraphale's just been simmering in a low level of fear coated over with denial since Before the Beginning, it's his normal. I think Aziraphale isn't truly afraid until the Metatron makes him realize Crowley isn't as safe as Aziraphale has been assuming.
Welp. Here's to them getting on the same page in season three! 🥲
The thing abt Crowley that I think is missing from a lot of fan content is people like. how do I word this. people like him so much that they're not willing to make him do things they find unlikable. Crowley's demonhood is usually represented in fan stuff by him like, doing bad things to bad people, people who "had it coming" one way or another, which I think works in serious contexts but is just no fun if you're trying to match the tone of the source! Crowley comes up with and does things that are objectively annoying and unpleasant and that's Fine. It's hilarious. We all need to make peace with the fact that Crowley would play Instagram reels loud as hell on the train, she'd be in front of you on line at the drug store paying with exact change, she'd show up to your baby shower with one of those toys that make a bunch of noise, she invented the leafblower. Etc. These jokes write themselves they're so easy and they're always funny and I want to see more of that sort of energy
idk im watching back ep4 for the thousandth time and like. crowley does look particularly perplexed and shocked as to how the bottles got smashed, gives up the feeble excuse of 'hmm maybe it was the bomb' etc.
but like. the bomb didn't affect the bentley. and when he carts the suitcase out of the boot, there is no liquid pouring out. he opens it, and the straw is still bloody dry. and he just admitted to aziraphale outside that they were there with what aziraphale would reliably surmise as being bootlegged liquor.
so idk man but i think this little fucker had something to do with it
Crowley sure went from "our respective head offices don't actually care how things get done" and "nobody ever has to know" to "walls have ears" FAST after Edinburgh. And Aziraphale went from looking at Crowley with hearts in his eyes to "I've been FrAtErNiZiNg" just as quickly.
I'm more convinced than ever that Edinburgh was the first time Crowley ever actually got caught and punished for fucking around with Aziraphale/doing good deeds/whatever it was they yanked him back down to Hell for, and it scared the absolute shit out of both of them and changed the whole tone of their relationship after that.
Every single expression on Muriel's face is perfection, but I think my favorite one in this scene is the way they look at Aziraphale when he takes a sip of the tea. It's not judgy like the archangels, but it's confused/horrified/slightly panicky, like, "EW WAIT I HAVE TO DO WHAT NOW"
Dalrymple seriously said "I'm too important to be a grave-robber, let those other people who don't matter be the ones who almost get themselves killed digging up bodies."
I kind of love the choice to make him such an ass, even when he's simultaneously being the voice of illumination and explaining something Aziraphale needs to understand.
