People that are affected by gender stereotypes are often just forgotten about by the news and mainstream media and that seriously needs to stop. Without representation, these social issues can fall between the cracks and be forgotten about. If the issues are forgotten about people will continue to suffer under the weight of these issues. Stress from these issues can sometimes lead to more issues. And if the issues become too much, people can begin to feel depressed and sometimes that can lead to suicide. If people don’t stand up and fight to eradicate gender stereotypes people could develop problems that could seriously impact people’s lives. Gender stereotypes negatively affect people’s lives all around the world and we need to find a way to stop these stereotypes being so prevalent in the world.

“The Disney Store has taken a step to make sure that kids feel encouraged to choose from any of its Halloween costumes, regardless of their gender.
In the past, Disney promoted its Halloween costumes by identifying them as either girls’ costumes or boys’ costumes.
For Halloween this year, the company’s site is promoting costumes “for kids” and “for baby.” This means kids have all of the store’s options at their little fingertips, not just costumes traditionally deemed appropriate for their gender.”

Mom shuts down stranger who shamed her son
On May 20, U.K. mom Haylee Brazen posted a response to a woman who made derogatory comments toward her son Zackary. The woman had a problem with his dress and their conversation. Brazen is not here for her gender stereotypes — and has some firm advice for the next time they meet.

@harnaamkaur and I are tired of your shitty gender roles. We shot this series for @theparallelmag to challenge what people are “allowed to do.” She has a beard due to a medical condition. She loves it and kills it! As for me, I just want to wear a skirt sometimes cuz I think it can look dope! The fact we socially relegate these fashion and styling attributes to certain genders just seems so frivolous and dangerous when you consider how aggressive people get when their confronted with these things that don’t fit into their understanding of how the world works. At the end of the day, just be yourself and love yourself and don’t judge others who are living that way. Think outside the parameters that we are lead to believe are absolute and see the world as it is! Much love to all of you! 📷: @sophieephotos 💄: @kateoffthewall 👔: @roxannechanelmurray

Marina’s Opinion Piece
In my opinion i feel as if gender roles and stereotypes in today’s society are quite toxic and sometimes even completly backwards to the direction we think we are headed in. With the amount of progress that we think we have concerning gender roles, the world around us has been two steps back. People try to change their thinking, the open-minded people have come a long way, but some other people that live in the same world, community, neighborhood as you have always had the notion that there should be limits and guidelines for you to follow if you are a certain gender. These are the same people who do not know how much they are affecting youth, keeping their mentality to girls should only play with certain toys like dolls, even if they wish to play with trucks, which their brothers are only allowed to play with. these kids grow up thinking they have to be a certain way because they were born to play that part is utterly heartbreaking.
In the survey my group conducted, we asked questions about which gender stereotypes are commonly heard and executed in today’s society. Over 90% of people still hear that women are only supposed to look after children, and that women are only supposed to look pretty and act nice for men. Which are obviously not true for many women, who do not wish to have kids, who do not wish to dress up for anyone but themselves. Times have changed but people still expect us to live in medieval times. a time when gender roles were strongly enforced.
On the other hand when asked stereotypes about men, because this is a two-way street, 96% of survey-takers are aware that men are always supposed to be good at sports, which can have negative effects or repercussions to boys or men who are not athletically inclined, leading them to be “less manly” which is not true. Another stereotype which 87% of people have heard before is men cannot sew, cook or do crafts. Which can only mean that those things are woman things to do. And it is a toxic way to think, that only one gender is allowed or able to do a task.
I am obviously aware of the fact we have commonplace gender roles and stereotypes still in society today, as much as we think to be moving forward, there will be a group of people that changes everything, by not expanding their minds to ideas that won’t hurt them or affect anyone in a negative light. Gender roles should not be as tough as they are now. It is okay if they exist, but the fact that people are choosing to associate roles and stereotypes in a bad way is not helping the situation of moving forward and letting people be who they wish to be, with no limitations.

Hollys Opinion Piece
Gender roles are a toxic byproduct of time, evolution, and our society. based on what was once common place and social accepted, gender roles are now ridiculously egregious. it is so inherently wrong that different societal standards are applied to different genders and we re expected to live our lives within the confines of these gender definitions. we are expected to conform to the norm, rather than simply do what makes us happy, or what we like dissenting from the norm makes you an outsider and weird, but living within the lines of the gendered box drawn for you may not lead to truely being happy.it is time that as a society we acknowledge that gender roles and gender norms are not suiting our bests interest in societal advancement, and are simply holding us back as a species. we could move forwards towards better and more important things if we stopped letting ourselves be divided by things that dont matter and painting people into unnecessary boxes and labels, and instead just let people do, and be, who they want to be. we have an long way to go to achieve this, and to eradicate gender roles, and their toxic effects on our society.

I think the most iconic thing about Wonder Woman is that she never has to prove herself as a woman, only as a warrior. Like this is a movie set during a point in time where (most, if not all) women couldn’t even vote and yet whenever she’s fighting there are no comments on her gender. She doesn’t have to seduce men and they don’t underestimate her-they just see her as something to shoot at. The fact that she’s a better fighter than Chris Pine doesn’t emasculate him like it would in any other movie, it’s a logical fact. Wonder Woman (2017) worked because it wasn’t trying so goddamn hard to convince you that a girl was worthy of fighting with the guys-it took that as fact and worked from there. And as a result, Diana got to experience such a complex and moving character evolution-optimism, doubt, a crisis of morality, and the development of a new, evolved worldview-that is incredibly rare if not unheard of in any movie with a female protagonist, let alone one in an action movie. Wonder Woman is this iconic feminist figure but the movie wasn’t selling store brand pseudo empowering “girl power,” it was a hero’s journey, a film about loss and doubt and growth whose hero just happened to female, and as a result it was one of the most complex, resonant arguments for female personhood that I’ve ever seen on screen.
