hi bestie where did u learn all about Greek myths from i wanna just. read about history and myths etc etc after my exams end so collecting resources

hi bestie! i learned more about Greek myths from a ton of places that i can't quite recall but i'll give you my main sources.

theoi.com my beloved - a comprehensive source on many greek gods, heroes, and beasts. everything here is cited from ancient sources which you can find at the bottom of a certain profile. (they also differentiate between greek and non-greek sources, excellent for clearing up misconceptions about myths)

also from theoi.com, a list of ancient texts - it also includes what time periods they were written and by which groups (greek, roman, byzantine, etc.)

translators i recommend for texts are richard lattimore and apostolos n. athanassakis. there are tons more amazing ones out there but make sure to do research on each translator as that can help explain what agenda the translator has (whether to stay true to the original language or make things more poetic or easier to read).

also this tumblr post has links to free courses related to greek/roman mythology, some related to ancient greek and latin, others more focused on the mythological world and ancient texts. there is also a historical aspect to this too.

there's also a masterpost here for tumblr threads about mythology (all backed with sources dw!). beware, some of the links don't work anymore unfortunately :(

for some user-friendly explanations of a few myths is ted ed's myth playlist, not all the myths are greek as there are others from other pantheons but the greek ones are very good and easy to understand with cool animations.

if you can’t already guess, wilbur travels.

he approaches niki and asks her, one more time, to trust him, and she does.

they see the world, and see it again just for novelty, and when niki’s heart aches to return, they do.

he reconciles with phil, then tommy, then finally fundy, and he has long since reconciled with eret but it never stops surprising him.

he plays more guitar, writes until his hands feel numb, and gives it all to eret to keep. he records his story, start to finish, binds the book with ribbon and places it on a shelf for the next time someone needs it.

that’s not all.

you see, wilbur soot had done a lot. 

he had started speeches, revolutions, wars, and far too many mediocre drinking songs in a crowded bar. he had bore witness to the worst stage production of macbeth ever seen, spent years alone in the void with only a fish for company, had sold drugs and started a nation off of that alone. He had gotten second place in a talent show once, and he was still quite proud of that.

he had stood on a stage giddy with adrenaline, crown laid lazily upon his ever-messy hair, gripping on to his friends for dear life as he shouted at the top of his lungs that we won! Oh my god, I can’t believe it!

he had led countries, and singalongs, and prank wars. he had conducted experiments , conducted unfinished symphonies that perhaps weren’t meant to be finished. 

he had the pleasure of knowing so many people. masters of parkour, of combat, of survival. people who were none of that at all. he had laughed so hard he cried at what he was convinced were some of the funniest players alive, and went and fought against them on the battlefield when the time came. he had talked, so much, an unbearable amount really, desperate to get everything he needed to say out.

but still, he does more.

he dances with niki under the stars, and sees the tears forming in quackity’s eyes when he marries him to his soulmates. 

he tells michael all manner of bad jokes he learned from phil, and when fundy has children of his own he tells them even more.

he eats food he’s never tasted and writes songs he never thought he would write: happier ones, ones that do not end in tragedy.

he sits down, one year, and writes a lot of letters to a lot of people. well, not a lot, but six. he drags them to a piece of land that has long since been filled in and filled with redwood trees again and demands they recreate a picture.

they do, and it hangs in a castle. eret was the one who took the photo, after all.

he writes to everyone from l’manburg, and phil and techno as well, and a thousand old and new friends when he can. 

he lives a long, long life, and soon button rooms are but a tiny piece of the tapestry that is his world.

he does not see every sunrise, but he sees a lot, and he never, not once, regrets coming back.

one of my top ten favorite tommy things is his fucking carrot garden. like. what?? why does he like carrots so much. why does he pass them out to people. mans canonically gardens and grows his own food!

Ngl everytime people talk about like dsmp ending or the fandom dying it feels uncomfortable. Like yes ik all fandoms will end everntually, especially with the factor of streamers probably moving to do different projects and fans being more interested in other medias but it's just so disheartening to see so many people go "omg guys when it's like 2022 we're gonna look back at dsmp and see how crazy it was!! Such good old memories :)"

It's just people acting like dsmp has been going on for years now and it's hanging on by a tiny thread, and not like a form of media and fandom that has only recently reached its 1 year anniversary lmao
