Sparta (modern city) Sparta (Greek: Σπάρτη Spárti) is a municipality in Lakonia, Greece. It is located near the exact place where ancient Sparta was located. Its population in 2011 was 35,259 inhabitants, of which 17,408 live in the same city. The first temple of Athena Polias, in which Erechtheus was also worshiped, was built during the Geometric period on a Mycenaean palace. The building was damaged by the Persians during the Second Persian War, but was repaired shortly afterwards. Some parts of its entablature were incorporated into the fortification wall of the Acropolis. He was the victim of a fire again in 406 BC. C., according to a passage from Xenophon, after the completion of the Erechtheion, and it was never rebuilt.1​4​ The temple was discovered in 1885 and Wilhelm Dörpfeld was the first to identify it. Only the foundations remain on its southern side, towards the Erechtheum, along with the bases of two stone columns of the geometric temple.

El primer templo de Atenea Polias, en el cual se rendía culto también a Erecteo, fue edificado durante el periodo geométrico sobre un palacio micénico. El edificio fue dañado por los persas durante la Segunda Guerra Médica , pero fue reparado poco después. Algunas partes de su entablamento se incorporaron al muro de fortificación de la Acrópolis. Fue víctima de un incendio de nuevo en 406 a. C., según un pasaje de Jenofonte , después de la finalización del Erecteión, y nunca fue reconstruido.1​4​ El templo fue descubierto en 1885 y Wilhelm Dörpfeld fue el primero en identificarlo. It was founded at the beginning of the 9th century BC. C. by Dorian warriors who were part of the second Indo-European invasion.
Little by little, Sparta managed to extend its power until it subjugated almost all the peoples of the Peloponnese. During the 5th century BC. C. it became a first-rate military power that managed to defeat Athens in the Peloponnesian War, and impose its hegemony on the entire Hellenic world

The Theater of ancient Sparta is one of the most impressive monuments in the city. Built in the 3rd century BC, this theater was an important center of the cultural and social life of Sparta, where theatrical performances, musical competitions and poetry recitals were held. Despite its state of ruin, the theater retains its grandeur, with the capacity to hold up to 15,000 spectators in its heyday.
