this post is inspired by @karasunosimp recent post about Aran blowing up. i love seeing that Aran is blowing up on tumblr, and i honestly wish that would happen to Kai and Reon as well. they’re all great characters and i wish that we talked about them more.

Haikyuu does an amazing job of not turning Black characters into racist depictions, which is a common trope seen in anime, and i really don’t want the fandom to do that to these characters. so here are some things to avoid

describing them as having a big black cock. this is a character, not a porn hub category for you to fetishize

saying they’re the club’s plug for drugs. this is a racial stereotype

saying that a character would call them the n-word. um, what the fuck

saying that they would give their team the n-word pass. again, what the fuck

using any Black stereotypes to describe their living situation or habits

if you are writing these characters, here are some writing tips

due to their skintone, you won’t be able to see them blush. running a hand down their neck, looking away, etc are good ways to show embarrassment

depending on the texture of their hair, however you headcanon it to be, you won’t be able to run your hand through it

for artists, their hands are a lighter shade than the rest of their body

it’s not that hard to have racially sensitive headcanons about these characters. for example, i headcanon Aran as being a plant dad and being hella proud of his plant collection and giving plant babies to his current and former teammates

megumi’s got the ability to store items in his shadow. we see him use it to store weapons and summon them in combat. 

that being said, the comedic potential of this is limitless. he’s like a mom, carrying around a first aid kit, an umbrella, several changes of pants, pads and tampons, at LEAST 3 portable chargers. everyone one hundred percent abuses megumi’s magical shadowy clown pocket pants (name pending) as well. nobara stops bringing purses out because who needs one when your best friend can just drop your wallet into his shadow and call it good

that being said, they definitely go overboard with it. they keep putting shit in there and forgetting to take it out later so it becomes. Incredibly cluttered and disorganized. in the heat of battle megumi isn’t always able to drag out the correct thing so they’ll be pinning down a curse and yuuji will call for a sword and megumi will toss him a Really Cool Looking Stick they found in the park the other day and yuuji will be like “good enough” and proceed to beat the shit out of the curse with it

imagine bokuto always hearing people call him stupid, teasing him for being dumb, always making fun of him that he gets insecure.

one day, he's just having such a bad day. he tries to cook dinner for you because you're sick, having a fever and feeling sluggish. he wants so badly to make you feel better even tho it feels like he wants to take a shower and cry out all of his heavy feelings.

he doesn't realize he messed up the recipe until you take a bite and immediately reject it. you don't mean anything by it, he knows that, but for some reason it was the straw that broke the camels back and he's a crying, sobbing mess.

your heart breaks as you listen to him apologize for being stupid, for not being able to do anything right. you're sick and he's too stupid to even make soup correctly for you.

it's heart breaking. you're drowsy from medicine and it takes all of your energy to hold him close, koala wrapping yourself around him as he cries and apologizes for the fact you're stuck with an idiot for a boyfriend - you don't deserve that, he says.

and then he's quiet, finally tiring himself out enough to fall asleep. but your mind is plagued with the heavy feeling of knowing sunshine bokuto was dealing with so many negative ideals about himself </3
