A reminder not to watch eurovision and not to vote - even if you're scared israel will win. this is not about who wins and who loses, this is about the Palestinian BDS movement asking us to enact cultural and material boycott of a TV show that's plaforming a genocidal ethnostate. don't give them your money.

It’s Eurovision day :( I’m feeling kinda heartbroken, I know that’s so dramatic but this is usually one of the most fun days of the year for me and it brings a sense of community I don’t get to experience often (I don’t get out much lol). But of course, a community built on selective politics and sponsored by the ones committing atrocities isn’t worth it. Fuck the EBU for not being able to stick to their “values”. And fuck it, I don’t care if israel win. They’ll have to pay for hosting it next year, and you just know they would turn it into a propaganda fest and expose themselves further. Let the whole thing go to ruin. It’s gonna take a bit more than music to unite us this time.

Israel doing well in Eurovision is a completely predictable result of the boycott. The people who are watching & voting in Eurovision are now at best willfully ignorant and apathetic and at worst actively pro-Israel, meaning there will be a disproportionate amount of people willing to vote for Israel and even people voting for them because of the boycott.

But saying that means that boycotting Eurovision was the wrong call completely misses the point of the boycott. The point is not "Israel should not win Eurovision", it is "Israel should not be allowed to compete in the first place". The point of the boycott is not to give the EBU views or money, so if you've been boycotting... don't give them money or legitimacy by voting for someone tomorrow to prevent Israel from winning. If Israel does win, that does not mean boycotting failed; it only further delegitimizes the competition and confirms we should burn the whole thing down.

life has been hectic, with the end of semester approaching slowly but surely. i still have to finish my thesis, do all the remaining coursework for my classes, and then start studying for state exams :’)

Dipping my toes in the waters of daily posts again. Quite lovely to capture the moment. Yesterday a day of roadtripping and museums, today a day of museums and roadtripping again. And a lovely morning in my favourite city with a cuppa and a book. (Should I study today? Yes I should, I have things due soon. Will I though?)

Term 3, week two: Give the world more love.

Made some progress in drawings but sitting at the desk all day really gets to you sometimes.

Some other things: enjoyed a lecture on conservation; checked out a newly renovated campus building by a much beloved hand; had my monthly volunteering on the sunniest day in a while; frolicked in a lush garden; and savoured some delightful Art Deco train stations.

Even if the skies are mostly grey and dreary, I try to remind myself of all the little things I am blessed with and my endless gratitude for them. To have love in your heart is a great source of strength.
