Something about this interaction between Harry & Janeway - specifically Janeway but it's notable that Harry's the one listening because I think, say, Chakotay or B'Elanna might push back against the idolization of this 'it was different back in those days' way of thinking.

#Get the Tranq she's 'Good Old Boys'-ing! #never beating the Starfleet stooge accusations #which I think should have been brought up more between her and Chakotay #instead of just making Chakotay like Starfleet again so they can be together #the Tuvok/Chakotay/Janeway command trio should have been like #Janeway: I love Starfleet in an uncomplicated way and though it's painful sometimes I believe following code is the only way to proceed #Tuvok: I agree with the captain and this makes her believe in her decisions more - though I would attempt to obey her commands even if they #weren't regulation. #<- Janeway doesn't want to examine this #Chakotay: I hate Starfleet because of very valid reasons and I don't think following orders and codes from superiors is the best thing #in every situation. I want everyone here to examine their biases which cannot necessarily be done if biases are written into the #codes. We aren't in Starfleet space. AGH #People think Harry's way too timid. They think this because he's asian and an ensign so they make him timid & obedient #But he's very willing to break or bend the rules - he's willing to fight he likes action and adventure and he's very similar to Janeway #where they'll both die and go to hell and come back just to save their crew - their friends - their family

Okay, idea...

I just can't get the image out of my head of 1) Chakotay with handmade wooden baby toys in his hands and 2) baby Harry.

Like, seriously, imagine how good it would be if there was an episode (or fic, I'm not picky) where Voyager has escaped from a planet who had managed to kidnap our baby boy Harry Kim (but thanks to some quick thinking, the crew has rescued him). After an examination, the Doctor has cleared Kim. But, the next morning, he does turn up to his shift and after a quick computer query, it's established that Harry's in his quarters.

Janeway sends Chakotay down to go get him (and give him a talking to) but it's not too long later when the Commander calls her to come down. Confused and a little frustrated, she complies. When she enters Harry's quarters, she finds Chakotay with his back to her. He slowly turns around and she can't help but gasp at the sight of (literal) baby Harry Kim in his arms.

They take him to sickbay and after scanning Harry, the Doctor realizes that he needs more time to work out what's happened and come up with a way of reversing it, but he doesn't want to keep the infant in sickbay so he puts what looks like one of those cute little amber necklaces babies wear on Kim (it's actually to track his vitals) and sends him off with the command team.

Kathryn and Chakotay decide to take Harry to Kathryn's ready room while they decide what to do. The Captain wishes she had some toys for the universe's littlest ensign and Chakotay quietly excuses himself. He comes back later with a handful of wooden toys he's obviously made himself.

Kathryn eventually discovers that he'd made them for his son (damnit Seska).

In the end (because this is Voyager after Scorpion), Seven manages to create something that works on the principals of a Borg maturation chamber with the assistance of the Doctor and B'Elanna and Harry is returned to normal (but his bond with Chakotay and Kathryn is deepened).

#me asking myself if i have enough of an idea for a fic.... #i just cant get the idea of baby Harry out of my head at the moment #and then imagine if afterward #kathryn gripes that they are not home yet #and chakotay is confused #and she tosses one of the toys that didnt manage to be put away yet at him #he catches it and turns it over in his hands #he understands #just the beautiful angst of it all #chakotay #kathryn janeway #harry kim #star trek voyager

Saw someone say that the chief emotion Tuvok struggles with is anger and boy? That made me struggle with anger

#examine your biases towards black characters (characters portrayed by black actors) RIGHT now #IT'S LOVE. IT'S LOVE IT'S LOVE IT'S LOVE. #Tuvok loved his pet Sehlat so much he ran away from home when it died #and he loved that girl from school so much that he had to get sent to a Vulcan monastery #and he loves his wife T'Pel so much that he refuses to be with anyone else to an illogical degree #like to the point where he nearly dies over it and refuses to even have sex with a hologram that DOESN'T look like her #'all Vulcans struggle with anger' is a true statement #'the overwhelming emotion Tuvok specifically struggles with is anger' is a false statement and also I'm doing the iasip meme #newsflash asshole: IT'S LOVE #off topic but this is also why I wish Tuvok's motivations for disobeying Janeway when he took that tech were more expanded upon #bc in my head it's at least partially bc he wanted to get back home to his family more than he wanted to follow Starfleet protocol #I just don't see how you look at Tuvok as a character and say 'yeah the FOREMOST thing I'm getting from this guy is anger' #hehe sorry I don't like sharing things that are just like wholly negative but ... whew -wipes my brow-
