"This splatfest is a hard one to pick on...I know the left over fuzzy ooze has been causing "Sasquatch" sightings, so that's technically real; something I know the Captain won't like to hear... Still, I'd rather believe Aliens are real."

Since we've calmed down after the last Splatfest, I can finally bitch about some Shiver fans' takes.
My God she did NOT try to "change the subject and try to make Frye comfortable".
Shiver SUCKS. She's greedy, she brags when she wins, she'll say anything she has to to get vote. That's WHY SHE'S FUN! Every member of Deep Cut Kinda Sucks. That is the point!
Big Man does get a little carried away and sometimes gets worked up (though he's still being nice) during the fests announcements. Frye barely even tries to make an argument (her job!) because she's too busy being silly.
None of them give a damn about the results. They're here to party and have fun. Sure, they like to win but they don't care if they lose. Almost every single time, the winner says something along the lines of "all three options are nice though" or "let's do all three!"
Shiver did exactly what she did for the Nessie vs Aliens vs Bigfoot festival: lie her ass off. This time, instead of lying about seeing Nessie, she pretended that her choice was better because she legit doesn't know how to do a fist bump. It's silly! It's endearing! She's a loser! Girlfailure! She doesn't care if it's embarrassing, she came clean because it's no big deal and she won! She won eight fucking times in a row, she gets to brag if she pleases.
It's fine for your fav to not be perfect. You don't need to go out of your way to mischaracterize an entire dialogue because you need to defend her from the "haters". And quite frankly, wouldn't it be worse if she was babying the other members (or singling Frye out) because they didn't win for months? Don't you think it would be condescending? Her lines were implied to be prewritten. None of them have a problem with what they have to say. They might even write them themselves for all we know!
Deep Cut are all good friends. That's why they don't give a single flying into space fuck about who wins, the things said to win, or the things said after they won.
And, finally, ofc it also goes for Frye and Big Man fans. Neither care if they lose. Frye doesn't even try (ie: she had less than 10% of the bite for Team Fame and had no reaction, especially when she could have made great arguments for it since it logically beat the other two teams (sorry for breaking Splatfest law guys, it needed to be said)), Big Man is just happy to be there (though he probably really wanted Love to win... But alas capitalism triumphs all). I'd LOVE it if Nintendo finally wrote them some spicy dialogue instead of the bland and boring "eh gg" we've been getting for over a year. I'd LOVE the acknowledgement that Frye is incredibly unpopular and has gotten brutal loses. They did it in Splat1 and 2. I want my girl to go on a rampage or for Big Man to impose himself. But it's not that big of a deal. We ain't getting angst. Deep Cut is too busy sharing their one braincell to decide what meal they're gonna have to care.
It's not that deep. It doesn't matter in the end. What fucking matter iS TO STOP KILLING YOUR TEAMMATES DURING TRICOLOR WHY THE HELL ARE YOU SHOOTING AT ME WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER—

Why YOU should vote for Shiver!
I know, i know. You are probably already decided on Frye or Big Man for this Splatfest. I don't blame you. All the members of Deep Cut are deeply loveable and would all make equally useless leaders. But i'm going to try and convince any of you that might be on the fence. And of course this is just for fun. I wish the best of luck to all three teams! I love all members of Deep Cut near equally and if this were a popularity contest i would be STRUGGLING. But luckily we have a concrete question to answer here!
Reason One:
She already sort of is the leader? She opens and closes the Anarchy Splatcast, is the one to announce Splatfests, and seems to be the one setting the tone for most of their broadcasts. So in a way you could argue she is already naturally fulfilling the role of a leader in Deep Cut. She serves as a stable(ish) point that both Big Man and Frye can bounce off of for conversations and jokes. In story mode you could argue Frye is more of a leader, but when it comes to the Splatcast Shiver is leading. So, the fact that Shiver DOESN'T step in and try to be in the spotlight and lets Frye take the lead shows that she knows how to let others be in charge when they are better suited to be.
Reason Two:
She has the least cons when it comes to her being in charge. This is a bit of a personal preference, but to me she seems like she has the least flaws when it comes to specifically leadership qualities. (She is still.... quite flawed...) Let's face it. Big Man is too much of a softie to be a leader. He would be VERY easily swayed by others. This is evident in his dialogue during his story mode rematch. "Ayy... (Still not a big fan of fighting, but...) Aaay! (The other two will yell at me if I run away!)" <direct quote from him. He is already easily pushed around by both Shiver and Frye. Figuratively AND literally when you take this line into account: “Ay? (Is that why you elbowed me aside when we were in line for ice cream?)” So he wouldn't even really be a leader in the end, more like a figurehead. Frye or Shiver could easily get him to do anything they wanted. Do i think they would seriously force him to do something he absolutely doesn't want to? No. But it wouldn't be that hard to convince him. He likes making people happy. As for Fyre? She's very indecisive. It's shown time and time again when she debates what splatfest team to pick, often changing her mind multiple times. She is also very spontaneous and likes to change plans up quickly. This can be helpful, but i think it would just end up with Deep Cut not having a concrete plan and instead bouncing around from project to project.
Reason 3:
inkipedia lowkey agrees with me. Ok, ok, ok. I know this is a stupid point. But all of this is quite silly already. But check out this quote from the wiki:
"Still, she appears to be the most mature member of Deep Cut, often remaining pragmatic, and composed, opposite of Frye and Big Man who tend to be more bold than Shiver. This maturity makes her a sort of leader of Deep Cut, in charge of opening and closing every Anarchy Splatcast and announcing important events like Splatfest themes and game updates."
See! At least the fans in charge of the wiki agree with me!
Reason 4:
She is the most mature. I know this is directly from the inkipedia quote above. But roll with me here. She is the most level headed and rational member of the trio. (which, admittedly, isn't saying much) But this means she can make good decisions and won't lead Deep Cut into too much trouble.
Reason 5:
It would be funny. A LOT of people are getting genuinely upset and toxic/rude about Shiver winning 4 splatfests. You know what would be funny? Making mean people even madder.
In conclusion... None of them are great choices. They do truy work better as co hosts instead of having one lead the other two. But when it comes down to it, Shiver is pretty much already leading Deep Cut. So having it be official wouldn't change their dynamic that much in the end.
Besides, we all know who should be the real leader of Deep Cut.... MARIE! I mean she is their boss.... right?

Yup.
There are a few reasons I took so long to get to this. The first is that I heard that it wasn’t like Subspace Emissary, which was what I thought we were getting from the trailer. The second is that I much prefer playing Smash multiplayer than single player, so whenever I’d get on, I’d usually play Classic, unlock a character (or two) really quick, then jump straight to Wifi. XD But the biggest reason? Spla2n. Whenever I’d sit down to play a game, I’d usually default to that one. I’m still getting used to balancing between two favorite games, and when one of those games has Splatfests, Salmon Run, and frequently rotating stages and modes, that’s the one I’m gonna wanna play more. XD
But, recently, I’ve really wanted to finally play World Of Light, so last night, I finally decided to take a break from Spla2n and do just that. I know, I know, me, take a break from Spla2n? GASP!! But I’m pretty sure I can handle it. XD I’ll keep up with it in the meantime so I don’t miss any wildcard Salmon Runs, and the next Splafest won’t be for a couple weeks, so this IS a good time for it. Also, I’m gonna play Spla2n on weekends just so I can stay at least a BIT in practice (as charger mains need to do).
But for now, I’m gonna tackle this really massive part of Smash that I’ve neglected up till now...
To get this outta the way, YES, it does bother me that there aren’t any cutscenes of the characters interacting. The one at the beginning was gorgeous, really cinematic, so they coulda made more! But they didn’t. Bummer...but not a complete deal-breaker. This is Smash, after all...
So, this Spirit system! When I first started, I wasn’t sure what to make of it. It kinda reminded me of how in Subspace, you could put stickers on your characters’ trophy stands to give them different buffs and effects when you use them. Except here, it’s not character-specific, and they also put a LOT more emphasis on it rather than having it be completely optional. I like my characters as they are, so given the opportunity I’d just use them completely vanilla, but I figured “why not” and decided to give Spirits a try.
And...I was pleasantly surprised! It’s a good mechanic! It adds a bit more strategy to the fighting while also not being TOO complicated - you just pick a primary Spirit and one or more supporting Spirits (based on how many slots the primary Spirit has) and they stack, simple as that. There’s also a level up system for primary Spirits, so if one seems weak, you can make it stronger!...Or you can be like me and just use your most powerful ones from the start. XD The whole rock-paper-scissors thing they got going on with Attack, Throw, and Defense is also neat, making it so that you have incentive to rotate out primary Spirits instead of sticking to one favorite the whole game. It’s just a very well-designed system, and I like it!
My current favorite Spirits are Octoling for Defense, Tron Bonne for Throw, and Charmander for Attack (though I’d like a better Attack one). Octoling was one I started with, so it’s the strongest so far, but Tron Bonne is catching up really quickly - she has three slots on her, and being a Throw Spirit means that she’s the one I used in....a certain fight I got stuck at, and she kept leveling up from that. XD
As for characters, I’m REALLY happy that Kirby is the one you start with, since I’m....decent with him. Not the best, I mainly use him when I’m not feeling competitive, but he’s a lot of fun, and very user-friendly. I’ve also rescued Villager! I had a choice whether to save him, Marth, or Sheik, and I chose him because he’s a character I use fairly often. I didn’t know that the other two choices get cut off from you, though, so I really should’ve gone for Sheik, as she’s a character I have yet to unlock, but...for now, she’ll have to wait.
So, I’ve been cycling between Kirby and Villager - two characters that I LIKE, but aren’t MAINS particularly, and each Spirit I face has a unique twist. Some matches are stamina matches, which is a mode I barely ever think about, let alone play, and I particularly got a chuckle out of Snake Man puppetting a team of Snakes. XD But, by FAR, the one that stuck out the most to me, and the only one I’ve lost so far, is the fight against Fiora. That fight GAVE ME HELL, and considering it’s in the FIRST AREA, that really gives me a sense of foreboding for what’s to come....I mean, YES I’m gonna save characters I’m better with down the line, but what if the Spirits step up their game at the same pace I am!? It’s game design!
But anyway, Fiora. In her fight, she’s puppetting Lucina and has a Shulk assisting her. I had on Tron Bonne due to her being a Defense Spirit, and equipped a supporter that gave me resistance against melee weapons, and another supporter that boosts my damage when I’m badly hurt. Sounds like I’m well-equipped, right? But the gimmick of the fight was downright BRUTAL - after a while, your defense lowers, and it’d keep lowering again and again the longer you stay alive. IT. SUCKS. ESPECIALLY as characters who are already lightweight! And Lucina and Shulk are no joke either, Shulk especially with his Monado Arts! So I lost about a dozen battles as both my characters, decided to quit and go another way, came back later, lost a bunch AGAIN, and only after I had defeated nearly every Spirit in the area and came back a third time did I FINALLY win. I won as Kirby, and I’m not sure how I did it other than....I adapted. Simple as that. Also Final Cutter. =P
Hopefully my future posts won’t be as rambly as this. I just wanted to explain how I feel about the gameplay and THEN talk about my experiences.
Also, after I finished for the night, I got challenged by Peach, and beat her pretty easily as Villager (I’m yellin’ TIMBEEEERRRR!) so, yeah, I got another unlock, and I didn’t even free her, I just got her by PLAYING WoL. Eh, not that it matters to me. I don’t use Peach. She’s fine, has some good tools and all, but my distaste for her as a character is why I don’t use her.
Progress so far:
